Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, was speechless as he drew attention to the poor condition of the team’s hotel in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.

In a video post circulating on social media, Iwobi shared images highlighting the poor state and surroundings of the Super Eagles’ accommodation in Morocco.

His post has prompted concerns about the welfare and preparation standards of the Nigerian national team ahead of the Gabon clash on Thursday.

A user, @dele003, wrote: “CAF/FIFA are utterly useless if this is the best hotel accommodation they can get in all of Morocco for a 4-days competition. It just shows the lack of organisation and uselessness that exists within those organisations. The NFF should have sent a party ahead though, maybe they could have rejected such accommodation.”

Another user, @prolific_eric, added: “Players representing the richest black nation on earth. There are still people defending this selfishness and corruption. Countries that don’t have half of Nigeria’s resources are giving their citizens and national players the best treatment. This is not even a 2-star hotel in Morocco. How selfish and pathetic can you be to treat your national team players below average.‼‼‼”

@MiraculousSound tweeted: “After working on the mentality of the players with this bad hotel you put them. Do you expect them to give you good results? For their career and football achievement they should play to qualify, but for #thenff this is bad publicity for Nigerian football.”

@MntwanaThokoza2 claimed: “NFF decided to book the team in a run down part of Morocco (which every country has). They are going to pocket the money, it’s a money looting scheme for them.”

However, not everyone shared the outrage. User @Ameboibadan defended the situation, writing: “There is nothing bad inside where they are, it is part of the training. If they actually have comfort they may forget their mission and lose, so with this, they will know that they must win or else they won’t even get transport come house. Thanks to NFF and Nigeria for this discipline.”

If you guys had done the needful in the main qualifiers, you won't be in this shabby hotel. Common SA beat you to top spot...

Yet our NFA ket quiet on this. These kind of poor welfare and working conditions are reasons players would prefer playing for European countries rather than their African countries

Some no fit afford that. So stop whining like a spoilt kid and go qualify us. Na just one week you can go back to ur luxury

I expected this kinda treatment because north Africans are hostile in nature, NFF on their part didn't help the situation. The officials only care about their money and not the welfare of the players.

They should have gone to inspect the facility before the arrival of the players.

If they had got the job done when they should do, they have no business being in Morocco.

South African players are not exposed to this disgraceful tournament because they acted when they should.

Their funeral.

These boys are never serious. In the days of Kanu and Okocha you won't see them come online to start complaining or showing off when a very important match is imminent. It shows lack of commitment. Iwobi and Ekong are particularly notorious for doing that.

You won't see Argentina, Brazil or France teams do this nonsense kiss
This is because the management of their football association don't "do this nonsense".
Can Argentinian football association or that of France lodge Messi or Mbampe in such a despicable hotel!

They should manage the situation. The goal is to win on Friday.

If they had won all their games they shouldn't be in playoffs
The Match is for Thursday.

5pm.

My brother do you know that these corrupt government officials and corrupt politicians are very angry that you and Victor Osihmen are young and very successful professional stars.

That's why they put you guys in that eyesore of an hotel, no other explanation.

If you guys like give your best to the ungrateful godforsaken nation that was recently described as a disgrace
If people reason like this, no one will work for betterment of Nigeria ever but thank God there is what we call hero. These guys will do their best to become the heroes of this country and when they grow old, they will look back and be proud of their achiement as youths.
What you are lacking is understanding of what participating in world cup means to every professional players so, they are not just doing this for Nigeria but for their own bragging right too.

You guys are supposed to sleep under the bridge for taking us this far. Many will not know that you collected matche bonuses of those useless matches you guys played to disgrace us. Do you go there for tourism? You guy don't deserve any good treatment because all the good treatment you received what did you guys achieved with it? ?? Stop making noise and go and play football. If you win then you xan expect something good. Mad players
Re: Iwobi Shares Morocco Hotel Of The Super Eagles by Kalulu44: 3:54pm On Nov 10, 2025
I just watch the clip, there's no correlation between that building they showed with where Iwobi and Ekong were. That room Iwobi was shown can't be in that building same with the conference or is it dining room Ekong was.

Who is responsible for booking hotel for the National team? Is it FIFA, CAF or NFF? The answer to this will lead us to who to blame? But in all honesty, that place looks like students hostel in higher institutions, very rough and unkept.

They deserve what they get. If they had qualified though the group stage, this extra expenses won't surface.

It is their career, if they like they should qualify, if they like they should complain and loose the match. WHO CARES!
Re: Iwobi Shares Morocco Hotel Of The Super Eagles by InMyOpinion(m): 4:21pm On Nov 10, 2025
This is the type of hotel they deserve now. When they start winning, we can consider putting them in a better hotel. We shouldnt be rewarding rubbish. No money to waste!
