I think he is too crude and lacks tact but at a time when a rumoured coup was supposedly nipped in the bud, the Navy should not be seen to be answering to the demands of a retired official. Who is it that received that order and acted on it? Was this order carried out with the knowledge of the Chief of naval staff? If yes, that's condemnable. If no, then it calls into question his fitness for the job.

Heads need to roll for this. Wike needs to be sacked as well. He could have handled the matter better instead of embarrassing the president.

Police cannot arrest army. There are procedures, the army have their own police, that arrest the army office. After a court martial, to dismiss the officer from the force, then the police can arrest him.

No the President is the head of the Armed Forces. He is the commander in chief and all commissioned officers get their commissions from the president.

But the thing is that it is belittling for the office of the president to he intervening on land matters.

Let me attempt to answer your question.

Retired top military officers are entitled to serving junior officers as orderlies. Go to their houses and you will see serving officers stationed there to do their biddings.

Due to the rumored coup attempt, I think Wike should have exercised more tact in dealing with this issue.

What happened to resolving it through diplomatic channels than going there physically to intimidate the officers?

Wike of all people should have known that the military work with orders, and there's no way the boys stationed there would have moved an inch without hearing from the one who sent them.

Wike even asked the policeman with him to arrest the soldier, I'm not sure why that didn't happen.

But I can assure you that it would have been a blood bath if the police had tried to arrest the soldier there and then.

I don't know which country but it's in Africa and I hope you saw that short video .

A traffic officer on the road turned back a semi truck full of soldiers on a road that drove one way against traffic. That truck had a machine gun of some sort hanging on its roof. The soldiers even came down apologized and begged the traffic police to let them pass but the traffic officer stood hia ground and turned them to go back and follow the other side.
Note that other side had a long grid lock of vehicles that were not fast moving....
