It is necessary to be honest about your academic qualifications when applying to the school (and INZ when the time comes), it is the moral and ethical thing to do.

Donclaracuzo:
Please, @moderators and gurus in the house, just want to seek advice from you all. I have PhD in education but, would love to have another PhD in the same field in new Zealand. Seeking for advice to know if it is necessary to state in my application or details that I have had PhD before or just to leave that information in the dark and apply without stating much about that. Thank you all.

Please guys how is the job market in NZ. I went on Reddit and got discouraged but I want to hear from my own people. For context I am the primary applicant for masters and have experience as a business analyst my spouse has experience in procurement and care.

Also will I be able to apply for him to join me once I land?

Thank you
Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by KaptainAfrika: 12:43pm On Oct 05, 2025
For masters, your spouse can join you, that is you can submit the applications together or you can wait get yours and then they apply. As for job market it can’t be as worse as that of Nigeria can it? You just need to make sure your masters is in an area that is in demand and have the needed skills - sadly any experience outside of NZ might not carry weight. Having a spouse that can work full-time would help with costs.

@GraduatesGrant,

Kindly share the WhatsApp link, I am interested in joining the group.

Many thanks
Great idea but I don't think it's best especially for those who will come much later in the future and will need this information as guild. The best is to have everything done here on the thread.

Take for instance I just joined this thread and I've been reading comments and reviews from some pages back, all the pages are archives of information that will never be lost for many years to come. So why limit such information to WhatsApp alone.

Even for those joining the WhatsApp group much later they won't see previous messages so what then is the need for it as you'll have to repeat over and over again on what you've already mentioned.

So I would suggest all WhatsApp groups should be dismantled.

Let me read to the last page first b4 I drop where I need advice.

Okay, it's a good thing being hear, well-done to everyone making a thread readable and memorable.
May God help us all! Amen!

I've read through some previous pages so I like to raise my issue since I didn't come across any similar one or maybe I skipped it. Pardon me please.

I've a B.Eng in Nigeria in 2012, married with kids, now. My plan is mainly to migrate for greener pasture Vai the study route, so, I came up with the idea of academic switch from Engineering to Healthcare (Nursing).

I'm looking at applying for a nursing course either a 1 year diploma course to help prepare adequately so I can have a profine idea on the exact field or area to major into after the 1 year period. Now within the 1year diploma programme I would have been able to settle down moderately before bringing my family to join me. Sounds like a brilliant plan, yeah! But, man proposes, God disposes.

Now, this is where I need advice, I've 3 countries in mind, UK, Canada and Australia but after research I dropped UK and Canada to non dependants policy and low chances of getting a visa respectively.

I'm currently considered Australia, NZ and Ireland.

Please which of these countries will be more easy with high chance of getting a visa, job opportunity during study because I need this to carryout other plans for family relocation and cheapest means.

Your input is highly appreciated.

If you use your Dads account for PoF then he becomes your sponsor and that has requirements that you should read up on the website.
I am not sure of the other part of your question to be honest, let me not give you a wrong answer.

I can confidently tell you that Ireland study route don't allow relocation with family except if you are going for PhD.

Hello guys! I’m new to this thread, but I’d love to connect with people in Christchurch and Auckland. I’ll be attending an agricultural conference in Christchurch on November 4–5, and I’d also appreciate any connections or suggestions for affordable apartments for about 17 nights.
Thank you so much! 🙏

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this thread and I have read lovely contributions from Calabar Sumarai, Lovylovy and some other consistent contributors. Well done 👍🏽

I'm considering moving to NZ for a Phd.
My first degree: Banking and Finance (Nigeria Uni Grade: 2.1) and my second degree:
Entrepreneurship (UK uni, Grade; Distinction)
I have a decade plus of work experience in Banking, financial services, accounting, and business operations.

Sincerely, I'm a bit overwhelmed (reason why I've delayed this Phd thing for this long) and don't even know where to start.

I think my first question will be what area will be best fit based on my academic qualification and work experience (considering the in demand areas in NZ)?

Also, which of the NZ Uni has a not too stressful admission process and which of them provides admission assistance for International students.

Is the NZ Visa process from Naija tedious? What should one expect and what is the visa approval time line (all things being equal) and visa approval rate?

For those who have applied and are already in New Zealand, I will also appreciate your input and if you have resources that can serve as a guide (CV, Proposal and Supervisor email templates) I will be most grateful if you can share or point me in the right direction.

I'm coming out of my shell to ask these questions so that it commits me to start this process🙂
Hopefully the group will be my 'ginger' and I can be in New Zealand ASAP🙏🏽

I await your responses/contributions/guidance/advice

Thank you

Today, my heart bleeds at the number of people that have messaged with asking for verification of their "New Zealand visit visa approval e-letters."" It turns out that all, with no exception, are fake. These individuals paid millions of naira to people who promised them, not a pay a dime till their visas are out.

Hooray! Their "visas" come out, and they happily send these hard-earned money. To their chagrin, it is all a phony scheme. There was one that was arrested at the airport for attempting to travel with a fake travel document (visa). He shared his ordeal with me on how he was allowed to go after "dropping something."

The worst of it all is people that sell New Zealand Travel Authority (NZTA) "visas" for millions of naira under the guise of cruise ship to New Zealand. This NZTa costs $20, but unsuspecting individuals pay millions of naira and the marauding agents of darkness take these monies knowing fully well the "clients" will never travel. NZTa is not for Africans. You can not come to New Zealand on a cruise ship except you have a second passport. Whatever lie they tell you about Fiji (visa free for Nigerians and most Africans) is a fraud. You will never land New Zealand from Fiji Islands on a cruise ship.

Today, someone tearfully shared me with me how they parted with 16.5 million naira for this same NZTa "visa package" to New Zealand. It has been 6 months, and it has been stories on top stories. He was blocked today and any hopes of that money coming back is long talk.
Painfully, New Zealand visit visa gets approved in 3 weeks latest not months.

What hurts me the most is that I consistently talk about this on my wall but it seems many allow it breeze past their ears.
New Zealand visit visa is 441NZD. The entire package if you have proof of funds shouldn't cost you more than 5 million naira, this is together with flight ticket (because New Zealand is considerably far).

Hello, has anyone successfully gotten a PhD admission with Lincoln University? It feels like their processing takes forever. My application was registered with them since September 10

Congratulations on your visa approval.
I would like to ask, what school did you apply to and how long did the school admission take?

My Journey to PhD Admission in New Zealand – and Tips for You
I’d like to share my experience with getting a PhD admission in New Zealand, and hopefully encourage those of you who are also considering this path. Please note this is not legal or financial advice—just my own story and what worked for me.
✨ 1. Why a PhD is a great option
• If you already have a strong academic background (First Class, Second Class Upper, or a Master’s), a PhD is often more affordable compared to pursuing another Master’s in New Zealand.
• PhD programs also open more doors: scholarships, work opportunities, and pathways for dependents.
• Alternatively, diploma programs in fields on New Zealand’s Green List are a great option, especially for critical skills in demand.
✨ 2. Securing Admission
• I started by Googling the departments aligned with my research interests.
• I reached out directly to the HODs and lecturers, sharing my proposal.
• Thankfully, one HOD responded positively and became my supervisor.
• My biggest tip: don’t hesitate to reach out—New Zealand academics are very responsive.
✨ 3. Visa Application & Proof of Funds
• When applying for a student visa, you must show proof of funds for the entire duration of your study.
• For example, if fees are NZD 10,000 per year and living expenses are NZD 20,000, that’s NZD 30,000 per year. For a 3-year PhD, you must show NZD 90,000+ in proof of funds.
• Proof of funds should include:
o Tuition + insurance (covered in your offer letter)
o Living expenses (NZD 20,000/year)
• If you don’t have a scholarship, ask your supervisor about available funding options as you apply.
✨ 4. Bringing Family
• PhD students can bring dependents:
o Spouse/partner → open work visa
o Children → dependent student visa
✨ 5. Support Systems
• Many schools connect applicants with regional agents to guide the admission and visa process.
• Licensed Immigration Advisors are also available (some schools cover their cost). While you can apply on your own, working with a licensed advisor can save time and reduce errors.
✨ 6. Travel & Arrival Tips
• Direct travel from Nigeria is possible via Qatar Airways → Nigeria → Qatar → Auckland → your university city.
• At New Zealand border control, be very careful with food:
o No raw grains (beans, corn, etc.). All foods must be processed (powdered, ground, dried, sealed, labelled).
o Palm oil is allowed if properly sealed with no leaks.
o Max 2kg per food product.
o Never bring flight fruit (e.g., apples)—discard before landing to avoid fines.
✨ 7. Final Thoughts
• Admission response times are quick (my visa came in 3–6 weeks).
• Preparation is key: secure your funding proof, research supervisors, and know the border rules.
• Most importantly, don’t be afraid to reach out for help—whether from schools, agents, or those of us who’ve gone ahead.
👉 If you’re considering New Zealand, feel free to connect—I’m always happy to listen, share, and support where I can.

Hello elders, I’m seeking guidance on a potential NZ study and visa application. I hold a Master’s in Data Science (merit 65/100)- UK and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics (GPA 3.9/5)-Nigeria, and I’m considering a Graduate Diploma in IT (level 7).

My goal is professional: I work in UK healthcare (aka Support work) and have experience with digital health systems and EMRs. I want practical IT skills to lead digital transformation ( development of Electronic Medical Record software for low resource settings/rural areas) in Nigeria.

I’ve consulted the school’s recommended education and immigration agents, application has been submitted but I’d like input from those with experience in NZ visa approvals. Is a level 7 Graduate diploma suitable given my background and goals? and what are my chances of me securing the visa

Thanks in advance

Hello everyone.
Please I need a sincere advice.
I would like to apply for a New Zealand visitor visa, my intention is to convert it to work, study or otherwise visa while in Zealand.

Please does anyone have an idea on how I should go about it, I don't mean how to apply for the visa because that I can confidently do on my own.

I mean how easy my plan and purpose would be while in New Zealand.

I am open to private and public advice.
Thanks
