I've been using paystack to receive payment from my customers for about 5 years now. There wasn't much problem, except occasional delays in payment. The company generally struggles with paying merchants promptly.

Funny enough, before I signed up for paystack, I actually checked online on sites like trust pilot to see whether the company is reliable, and I saw that the company has a bad reputation, especially when it comes to paying merchants.
You can see their poor rating for yourself on trust pilot site.

But I thought maybe the people rating them negatively were people who committed fraud or people with bad blood. But I was wrong.

Now. I know better.

Paystack is actually that bad. The same thing people were and are still complaining against them is exactly what I am facing now.

Since October 22nd, one of their staff wrote me that my account is under review. Ever since October 31st, Paystack has withheld all my earnings and won't give me my money. Before I forget, my account has been reviewed several times by them in the past and certified ok.

Also , note that for the 5 years I've been using paystack, I've never had a single charge back from a customer (not saying that charge back is a crime). Nobody has ever complained about my product or service or asked for a refund or things like that. I've made hundreds of sales and has a clean record with them. So, there's no sane reason they shouldn't trust me other than they have no respect for merchants.

The attached dashboard is a payment for an advert placement on our website. The advert has been running ever since but I am yet to receive the money. It's showing "pending" for about 2 weeks now.

Finally, note that I have another account with them, which is also with "pending" money donated by a fan who supported the fundraising for my documentary project. Those of you who follow me here or have read my book is familiar with my documentary fundraising, which I made an appeal at the end of the book.

They won't allow people support the project. People are willing to donate a lot of money to support the documentary project but they won't let them pay. More than 99% of payments fail on Paystack. I've even tested it with my own Mastercard but it was declined!! Paystack is not a good payment gateway.

Try and get a payooneer account for fundraising if you've people outside Nigeria funding you.
Also get buy me a coffee and wise account to receive payment.

What I need is a payment gateway to accept payment on a website, not freelancer needs.

Interesting and I am building an app and I was thinking about using paystack as my payment option, I think I will try and look for another alternative

You can use flutterwave. The only problem is that they don't pay on time. They pay in 5 days (weekends not included) but they don't disappoint. I have both of them.

For USD payments, no. But I've been researching about Squad by HabariPay.

Glo app uses them, and refunds and some other local issues I've had seem to be automatedly resolved so far.

They also support usd payments collections. So you can also look into it

Yes I have. It’s a subsidiary under Guaranty Trust Holding Company.

They process USD transactions.

Paystack have a beautiful website and a positive media perception, showcasing young Nigerians running a Fintech startup.
Receiving payments or sending transfers is excellent on Paystack.
But be aware they can restrict your account or withhold your money for any flimsy reasons.

Until they hurt you or you see their rating online, you won't realize what a negative perception they have.

We're talking about a company that I've been with for the past 5 years. I have offered services and sold products in America, Asia, Africa, etc without a single history of charge back from any customer. I don't even have any history of complaints about my products or services from any customer. Not forgetting donations from all over the world from fans of my blog. I've maintained a clean record with them. And they've paid me 75 times! Yet, they withheld my earnings, and won't explain why they're holding the money, other than that they're "reviewing" my account. Its now over a month!

Well, I've put out notice on my websites for people to stop sending me money anymore by Paystack until I get paid my earnings. The only person that would send me money through them would be someone who already has their link or on the various websites and social media publications we advertised in the past. I have no way to remove those links. I wish I could remove them. If I could, I'll remove them immediately because there's clearly something wrong with paystack

The people at paystack just don't know how to run a payment gateway, or rather, it's Stripe their parent company, which is based overseas that curates them. This is not allowing them to succeed like homegrown Flutterwave. It boils down to the message I've had for Africans for ages to let us build our own stuff.

What other options can you recommend?

Just do a little google research, speak with their customer support and business dev managers before implementation
There are even gateways now that do same day instant settlements

Paystack finally refunded all my earnings back to the senders, then they deactivated my accounts.

This is more about policy because every company wants to grow and become 'international' and it is not their fault not to see beyond their noses. If the leaders put in good policies in place and protect their own, nothing stops these companies from not being bought and we celebrate it like it's a good thing. We don't take pride in owning it and letting it remain in Africa. We always want to sell and when they dangle dollars, people forget anything like this.
