Nigeria Is In Free Fall; I Can't See Your Government – Dele Farotimi Lambasts Tinubu

Nigerian human rights lawyer and social critic, Dele Farotimi has slammed the President Bola Tinubu-led government, saying Nigeria is in a "free fall" over the escalating insecurity, while the administration has failed in its primary duties of protecting lives and property.

Farotimi made the statement while reacting to the recent attacks in Kebbi and Zamfara States, questioning the government's ability to protect its citizens.

He said, "Nigeria is in free fall, the government AT ALL LEVELS has not only failed miserably in its primary duties to the victims, it has become glaringly derelict, and stands credibly accused of complicity in the multiple crimes being committed against humanity, and its continuing failure to act, invites true anarchy in the country."

He emphasised that the government's inaction invites true anarchy in the country, adding, "The buck stops with you, President Bola Tinubu. Do we still have a country? I struggle to see a government".

SaharaReporters had reported on Monday that no fewer than 25 students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, Kebbi State were abducted by bandits.

The terrorists also killed the Vice principal of the school. The state Police Command also confirmed the attack in a statement issued through the Command's spokesperson, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar Kotarkoshi.

SaharaReporters also reported on Saturday that a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki, was killed by gunmen suspected to be armed bandits.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday morning along the Gusau–Tsafe highway near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area while Moriki was travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.

The state chapter of the APC, led by Tukur Danfulani, confirmed the death, calling it “a tragic loss for both the party and the state.”

According to a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the party in Zamfara State, Yusuf Idris, the late APC stalwart had just participated in the party’s stakeholders’ meeting hosted by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

On Tuesday morning, SaharaReporters reported that terrorist masquerading as Fulani herdsmen attacked Amadu village in Takum local government area of Taraba state, killing at least six locals in their IDP camp.

The incident which happened on Monday night, has sparked widespread outrage and protests in the village.

Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the victims were aged between 27 - 65.

Reacting to the escalating insecurity across the northern region on Tuesday, even in the midst of the United States designation of Nigeria as a country of particular concerns over alleged Christian genocide claims, the human rights lawyer accused government at all levels of complicity in the multiple crimes being committed against humanity.

Farotimi, a vocal critic of the Nigerian government, has been advocating for systemic change and has faced persecution for his activism.

He was recently arrested and detained for 21 days on charges of defamation and cyberbullying, sparking widespread outrage.

Farotimi's statement highlights the growing concern over the government's handling of security issues and its impact on the country's stability.

Since 2015...

Believe it or not, we wouldn't be this messed up if Buhari never had presidential ambition.

Tinubu is actually a terrible failure.
But Jonathan himself also fumbled when he failed to take some decisions against corruption and insecurity during his era.
With the benefit of hindsight, I think Jonathan govt was much better than Tinubu's govt. It is like someone scoring 40% which is way better than 20%, both both are still failures.

Buhari thought Nigeria would collapse after him, so he looted it dry (like someone who knew all would fail) but the Nigerian people are resultant and survived.

Then Tinubu was out-of-touch for the first 12 months (which is advance compared to Buhari that didn't appoint ministers for 6 months, then ran overseas for over 100 days, just left a very complex country to run on autopilot, when he came back, a secret group of thieves has taken control of his government).

He's only active in stiffling opposition. PDP headquarters just got sealed off by the police in what is clearly a move in support of Wike, having seen that he's losing the upper hand. It's just like the case between Wike and Fubara. Does Wike have this man's intimate pictures?

You can't see his government but you can stay here the past 30 moths earning money and making a living. For those of us who are not blinded by hatred for Tinubu, we can see progress in the land and despite the security challenges and concerted noise by those who lost at the ballot box in 2023, the country is moving forward in several areas.

Can the President do more in areas of security? yes a lot more; indeed he must push the issue of state police to the front burner immediately, this will go a long way in strengthening the security apparatus in the states, secondly, he needs to reach out to countries who can help in the areas of military intelligence, a major gap is the failure of intelligence and the bandits or terrorists are capitalising on this. Thirdly, he must find a way of ridding the military of all the fulani moles and sympathisers, this will reduce the incidence of ambush etc.

The President must not waiver, some of his political opponents will keep using this to flog his government thinking it will lead them to Aso Rock in 2027 but a decisive President will not only crush the terrorists but also put the naysayers in their place.
Please go to G20 IN South Africa, go rub minds with leaders who might be ready to help rather than visit Kebbi and be issuing statements leave that rightly to your able vice Kassim Shettima.

Tough leaders are made in seasons like this, you are a toughie who has seen it all, the cry of election losers should be ignored, just focus on how to dry the tears of the genuinely affected and afflicted .
On your mandate we are standing.

To be true, nobody can fix the North except the North. The Hausa must separate from the Fulani to reduce their political power base, or else what is happening in Sudan will happen in Nigeria.

how would they separate?
They were conquered through jihad and are being ruled by their conquers,it’s not happening unless there’s a serious war.

When criminals brain wash there followers that’s what you see, though I dint expect anything good from tinubu but I dint know he will be worse than buhari, it’s very unfortunate but that were we have found ourselves, terrorist kill innocent citizens at home, work place, church , mosque and the only thing apc is interested in is how to indirectly take over opposition parties
