We cannot use Nigeria's 'complexity' to explain away the killing of tens of thousands of Nigerians while the state stands by idly. That excuse will not hold water.

But the facts are what they are. Boko Haram's explicitly stated objectives when they began their war - are part of the public record. The goals of other fundamentalist groups like ISWAP etc. are also well known. There is a sizable number of Nigerian Muslims who are sympathetic to the causes of these groups, whether we admit it or not. But we musn't lose sight of the key issue: if BAT was on top of the security issues to begin with, we wouldn't be having this discussion.
