As for the bride price, there is a way my tradition handles it. You either take the girl without paying her bride price or her family will first pay the mother's bride price to enable you pay the girl's own bride price. The second option is the best.

The first option is very bad because the girl will not be traditionally recognised as your wife until you pay her bride price. Her family can even claim the children she has with you. But these days, court judgement overrules traditions meaning that with DNA test results and with evidence that you have been spending on those children, you can claim those children.

So I am happy to be an adult and that now I can confirm all those rubbish cultures and traditions which we were told when we small in social studies and coin hush hush and tones, (like they did not want us to know but yet they wanted us to know and hear it).

Or some classmate will tell us "oh are you from so so so tribe? That means in your tribe they do one rubbish this or rubbish that.

And then quarrel/fight will start.

And then teacher may directly confirm it or may just attack the person saying "why did you tell him that?"

And while this was going on another classmate may add yet another blow of in your tribe they also do...

And another may counter him saying in your tribe do they not also do ......,? Or your tribe is even worse they do they not do ... (And may dis ones own tradition may scatter the class)

I used to be angry hearing all these shitty things flying and looking at how most of us denied it while some bowed their heads in shame while for some girls, they start crying and will not come to school for the next 2 days.

I remember holding these things in mind to see if they were true and of course I must go home and ask my mum since she works in tradition and cultural and historical institutions. And I will drop the one I remember, and if she is in a good mood and I took her unawares,(and of course after the usual "where did you hear that one?" I will get a good lecture confirming it
or she shall put it in the correct way, then she shall point people who we know and would even put it to them before my eyes and I get to see how uncomfortable the people are.

Infact she shall take me to travel to that area to see more of their cultures and traditions which she has already told me.

He does not need to sleep with the mother the crime is that he consented and partook in an abomination of marrying a mother and her daughter, which is a pagan practice.

If they wanted to extort all that can be done in the bill they levy him for the girl as theiving parents already do, so extortion is not an issue.

Now the problem was how I was to deal with all of this rubbish traditions (the evil ones that is as my mum always diverted me to the good good ones of the traditions but I never forgot the evil and abominable ones)

Which was why I was happy to claim city boy and to Christian and I prefer not to come from any village whether my father's own or mother's own.

And I did not know that my name was a native name till one classmate fired me seeing that I was behaving like I was not an African or Nigerian, reminding me that my names too are Nigerian and native.

Ah. I was very angry and tried switching to my English name (Now I dey claim English name wey I no send before ). But trust human beings, dem no gree.

It is not the Romans who own the Sun of the day called Sunday which you see everyday Christians go to church. Christmas is about the celebration of a very special birth immaterial of whether it clashes with Oro festival or Roman festival. That one is their own Christmas is our own.
