Gloriousangel:The issue with this tuition thing is that some universities won't let you pay tuition or even deposit unless you've recieved your visa. This happened to me last year with Simon Fraser University. I had the funds to pay tuition, but they said I could only pay when I receive my visa. Eventually, my visa was rejected and on my GCMS note, they noted I didn't pay tuition or deposit. This is despite me showing my mail exchange with the admissions office where I asked for payment invoice and they declined. What do you advise I do in cases like this as I'm applying again next year.

Hello guys, Please I am currently studying in Europe with my wife. I am almost done with my MSc but I am planning to apply for MSc study in Canada. I am very concerned about how to show proof of ties to Nigeria because I already had a visit visa denied some months back. I don’t want this visa rejected and would want to know the best ways I can show proof of ties to Nigeria. Is it also possible that I sponsor myself coupled with my wives fund? What is the best amount to have in my account? My dad registered a business before I came to Europe which I am listed as a director but the business is yet to go on a large scale making less than 1M monthly. Can I still include this as a proof of ties? What are the other possible ways to show proof of ties in my case? I don’t plan to apply with my wife yet as she would be going to Nigeria after my study here? |

Hello everyone, I'll be glad to get an informed advise on this. My sister has a BSc in Political Sciencw and a Masters in International Relations. Unfortunately, her BSc CPGA is 2.8, but she finished her masters with an average of 74 over 100 which makes her eligible for a PHd here In Nigeria. Now she wants to pursue another Masters in Canada. 1. Will Canadian universities accept her Nigerian Masters cert as her entry certificate, because her BSc CPGA is apparently too low to get her a Masters admission in canada? 2. We had considered her applying for a phd program, but the concern is that she hasn't been working with either certificate. So there may be issues with proving eligibility for a research position. Infact since her graduation, she has been working as a freelance UI/UX designer. Please advise. I'll be really pleased to get experienced feedbacks. |

trendytrendz:My sincere sympathy over your brother's refusal. IRCC now rejects nearly two in three applicants, so I would advise you take your time to strengthen your application and directly address the officer's concerns. Beyond showing a large balance, officers need to ascertain the funds are accessible and available to your brother, which is why you need a clear paper trail. Use a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) and pay the first year's tuition upfront. You also need to demonstrate the source of funds and explain any lump sum deposits within the statement period. Regarding your question about GCMS notes, IRCC now includes decision notes directly in the refusal letter, so your brother should recheck. However, if you still wish to order GCMS notes, you can do that for free through the official Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) portal. Wishing you the very best. |

ColdHunter:Okay, let me answer you with an experience I had with a lady, and I hope it helps you in your reapplication. When the school demanded evidence of study permit approval as a prerequisite for paying the full tuition, I advised her to get a GIC for her living expenses and put her tuition money in a fixed deposit account. The GIC is irrevocable proof that she had the money necessary to sustain herself in Canada, while the fixed deposit acted as a form of "escrow account," demonstrating that the funds were readily available and already set aside for tuition. In this applicant's case, she got a letter from her bank stating that the tuition money was being held in a separate, liquid account, ready to be remitted immediately upon visa approval. Her statement of account also showed how and when the money left her regular savings account, while still demonstrating the source of the funds. This worked for her and may not work for everyone, but I hope you now have an idea of how to address your situation. Wishing you the very best. |

Hi, good day guys. I am about to start my Canada study journey, and I want to apply for Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis in Red Deer Polytechnic. It is a 2-year program. The first year tuition is approximately 20k CAD, while the 2nd year is about 22k CAD. I have checked and met all requirements. I graduated with a BSC in botany in April 2023. I did a few undocumented jobs (No employment letter sort of) until my NYSC in June of 2025, which will end in May, 2026. During this period, I got a certification from google as a data analyst. It was a 6-month program. I need advice on how to tailor my SOP to reflect my interest in the program and my uncle who is based in the UK will be my sponsor. How would you advice I sort out proof of funds and how much will he be needing to show. Our plan is to pay the first-year fees in full before i leave. |

Omobemi2025:This is a complex situation, and your main challenge will be proving your home ties. You need to demonstrate that your life, career, and future are firmly rooted in Nigeria, and that your Canadian studies are just a means to a greater end, such as advancing your role in your father's company or other professional engagements. You should absolutely include the business. Even if it's not yet large-scale, it is a tangible asset that will strengthen your SOP. Your wife's decision to return to Nigeria is also a strong point. Explain how she will manage affairs while you study and that you plan to reunite with her there after graduation. Regarding finances, if the money is available, it is a good strategy. She can be your co-sponsor, provided you can demonstrate her commitment. You will need to show $22,895 for living expenses, complete first-year tuition, and miscellaneous expenses of about $3,000 to $5,000 CAD. I often recommend aiming for 1.5 times the total of your first-year costs. So, if your total cost of attendance is $45,000, showing $65,000–$70,000 CAD would hint ample financial capacity. You will also need to justify your need for a second MSc and address the previous refusal. Wishing you the very best. |

Quick one, everyone, I’m trying to locate information on the changes to the payment of a one-year tuition fee on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website, but I can’t seem to find it. Could anyone please share a link to where this has been publicly published? |

Good morning, I am a first year PhD student in US . I would like to consider Canada because the new immigration policies in US are not favourable . The chance of getting sponsorship after graduation is very low . In addition , the three months single entry visa is not encouraging . I would like to visit my family , but I can’t because of the restrictions on my visa . I want to ask if I can apply for a masters degree or PhD to Canadian universities from US ? Thanks . |

Worryingly:A CGPA of 2.8 is rarely sufficient for direct admission into Canadian Master's programs. However, universities often assess the most recent credential for eligibility, so her strong Nigerian Master's degree could improve her chances. With that, she can overshadow her poor undergraduate performance and undoubtedly demonstrate the aptitude to handle postgraduate-level works. To strengthen her application, I recommend she target course-based Master's programs rather than research-based ones, as their acceptance rates are usually higher. It will also save her the hurdles of writing supervisors. She can further support her application with strong letters of recommendation from her postgraduate lecturers, including professors. Note: A PhD is not advisable without a proven research track record, publications, or a very strong Master's thesis. Wishing her good luck. |

You should consider another school given IRCC's scrutiny of funding accessibility, especially when applying for a study permit. Paying tuition increases chances of approval. ColdHunter: |

I can help you find a DLI and a PGWP-eligible program that accepts close to that amount. However, paying a substantial portion of your fee before submitting your study permit application will improve your chances of approval. MCdrinkwater1: |
