In my language, which is urhobo,we call it "orere".

And yes, people do eat it,but I haven't and I didn't have the privilege to do that,as a kid..

Some things that are food to some societies are not necessarily a discovery based on ingenuity but on situational conditions.

That is why Africans can "discover" that a leaf called "BITTER LEAF" is actually SWEET.
Not because they undertook any research, but because they were HUNGRY.

Though I saw childhood friends eating it back then in my neighborhood but I never tried it because I get easily irritated.....There was a day one of my friends removed the legs and started eating it raw.

This is a rich source of protein and it’s very delicious when deep fried! We used to hunt it as kids, and it’s usually available in the rainy season, especially July and August. If you start cricket farming in Naija, you will make a killing.

It's called ULULA in my language and CRIKET in English language. Its roasted before easting. We do eat it as a young lad in the village back then.
