12inchess:In my opinion, I think you should have a serious discussion with madam, take 2 to 3 months off, come back to Nigeria and stay for a while, madam can still stay back there for the time being. Observe yourself in Nigeria, see if the depression subsides. Another thing I'll advise is, if it is possible, stay off the anti depressants, because at the long run, they seem not to work. If it is possible, get madam pregnant or adopt a kid, you'll be surprised how children are the real antidepressants. You need to clear your mind too, because it seem like you have something you're struggling with that you've not really faced it to deal with it and that might be where that depression is shooting from. Remember you're a Nigerian, we always have a positive mindset irrespective of the situation, don't try to be oyibo people because at the long run, it'll only exhaust you. Stay blessed bro, you've got this. |

NurseSnowToYou:Depression is not very common in Nigeria as it's in America. Reasons 1. Our lifestyle is void of loneliness like western countries. 2. We have sun 12 months of the year. No dark cold months where we will be lacking vitamin D 3. More family and friends supports available to us. 4. We consume natural foods and not processed and chemicalized foods that cause alot of health problems including mental health issues. Sometimes people in Nigeria that are suffering from poverty think they are suffering from depression. |

Helpout12345:Very wrong Almost 9 in 10 nigerians are going through some mental health crisis and we cope with it by drinking 3-4 bottles of alchol, constantly going to church and over feeding ourselves. |

Hmmm .... I was wondering why this guy is depressed. But when I read he was in Ohio ... I became depressed . Worse ...if he was from Lagos. If you live in Lagos all your life ...and relocated to one of the boring cities you will understand. Even if one has family and friends ... these places are depressing ... and people usually take to drugs or alcohol to manage . Then there is a race problem out there. Taking medication for depression is making the problem worse. People home who never travelled been advising those migrating to stay away from Black areas... this is the part they don't know about ...isolation giving rise to depression. A house has already been bought ... can't relocate. My best advice is to be part of a group ... most likely a church group. You say you are not as religious as you used to be ... are the church goers any better? I'm almost sure most church goers are going to fight depression .. to socialize. Get up .. get out. |

Kaczynski:A recent comment on tiktok by A Nigerian therapists claims that indeed about 90% of Nigerians carry around with them unresolved trauma from at least their childhood.

I'm surprised this thread is still moving. Also I'm a bit better now and less depressed. But I still feel doom and gloom once in a while. I have started attending a Nigerian church again but the thing just looks so ceremonial to me. Dancing and Thanksgiving and collecting tithes and offerings is all the Nigerian church seem to be interested in. I still think I need to take time off work but with the few leave days I get here I don't know how that will be possible. Anyway keep me in your prayers, I guess. I also kind of stopped the antidepressants since they were not really doing anything for me. |

12inchess:My brother my best advice now for u is to just join ur neighborhood gym n also do community volunteer services in ur community there n u will b fine...,discard those anti depressants totally n don't even try coming to naija for d next 2 years cos of Trump's current new policies n even ICE may ban u from re-entry even with your green card |

12inchess:You can use it through FMLA which is federal law and mental health which you already have documented is one of the reasons for using FMLA with that your job secured when you are away. Also if you are tired of US due to the issues you are having, you might consider filling for disability. State of Ohio I think is easier to get it and when you get it that would be about a third of what you earn now and that would be more than $1-2k and you can rent a place and live in Nigeria for sometime until you recover. You can google and read reviews of attorneys that specialize in that in your state but I would advise you tug it out a little big till you get the citizenship based on the mess currently going on. Most of the people in Nigeria do not understand what you are going through because you actually need to live in America to understand America |

12inchess:1. Stop that nonsense immediately! You are not doing yourself any good by trying to mask your depression with religion. Look at the result of that in Nigeria, with over 90% of Nigerians hiding their trauma and mental illness behind religion, will religious scammers continue to make it big even in the devastating economic situation? ![]() 2. You don't need prayers that mask anxiety. You need to look for opportunities to get out of yourself and your current "depressive" comfort zone. Join a gym, a bicycling club, or a book club. Watch anime or visit a club at least once each month. Start a hobby—write or draw, record music, learn knitting, join an acting club, etc.— Step out of yourself and consider the core reasons behind your depression and face them head-on. You have to do the mental work to free yourself from that heavy fog over your brain and mood. ![]() 3. That is a stewpid thing to do. You don't stop your meds because you don't think they are working. You tell your doctor that they are not working, and he will find you other options instead of the brand you were on to help you continue to tackle the problem. 🥱🥱 Use your brain to your advantage and not against yourself. Put it to work for you, not against you! 🥱🥱🥱 |

franchasofficia:You just made all sort of assumptions. I never for once mentioned to you that I'm not doing well financially. You just assumed that I'm proud without knowing me. |

12inchess:You should probably consider taking a break from what you have been doing for so long. Remove yourself from it all for a bit and maybe consider whether the reason why you feel broken has more to do with you doing that which your heart may not truly be into and not necessarily that your location is the issue. 🤔 |

12inchess:Take some extra days without pay and go enjoy naija fresh air for some time. In that time, map out what your future plans are whether in the US or back home. |
