I mentioned medical student because I know that medicine requires a high jamb score. I am seeking for admission into medicine. it has been my dream for some time now, but jamb had been making it very difficult. It has been more than 6 years. I had to settle for a course I do not like. I'm a graduate now and done with Nysc. However my dreams remain. I attended three times and give up. I want to try it again with the determination to get it this time. I am seeking advice from people who have pass this stage successfully.

So I am making another attempt at jamb next year. I have started studying with jamb syllables and past questions but my problems are:

1. The textbooks are just too bulky. There are too many things to study if you are following the syllabus. It is very frustrating. Too many things to study in a very short period of time.

2. Tendency to forget easily. Things I studied last month I have forgotten more than 50% of it, because of it bulkiness. So I have to go back to revise them which is time consuming especially when I have new topics to study.

3. I'm currently studying organic compounds in chemistry. And it is it is painful that I couldn't answer all the past questions on that topic. I had to go back to revise the topic. It seems jamb questions are hidden in corners of the textbooks. And you can't find them no matter how hard you cram.

4. I do not know if my brain is a little bit slow because I can spend time on one particular topic and in 3 days time I end up forgetting 70% of what I read in that topic.so Did you people go through this problems cuz I'm tired.

5. Medicine for me is a do or die. I don't intend to give up. I always see myself as a medical doctor. But jamb is jamming me too much.

I need help and encouragement from you guys. How did you do it.

Should I just focus on past questions. Tell me how you did it. if possible break it down summarize it. Even if it's a hard Way. Tell me, I need your help.
I did JAMB and got 280 at my first sitting. I didn’t go to any study centre and only read books. It depends on the background you had in school cert. If it was weak, then you have a long way to go. With the problems you stated, I think you need a 6 months study centre for JAMB training. A good one at that. You can’t rush it. But make sure you are not anxious. Keep calm. Anxiety makes your memory very unreliable and volatile. Working for a longer time in study centre will help you to retain the memory. Cheers!

Simple. Get Jamb focused textbooks that has lots of past questions. During my time I just studied the textbook and ensured I solved all the questions in them. No lesson no past questions. I got in for BDS.

lol.. You better go out and touch grass.
In my class in medical school , I had folks who came back for medicine after studying vet medicine, physiotherapy , Agric etc . Heck there was a naval officer too who came back after attending the NDA.
Just go to various med schools in Nigeria and you’d see the op isn’t made up

Really? In Nigeria?
Do they work as doctors too at hospitals?
No
He meant that they enter medical school in 200 level as DE after their first degree .
In my time in Ibadan, there were usually few spots reserved for DE students to join in 200 level . Folks with first degree and Cambridge A level could join in 200 level after meeting the admission criteria

I believe in UI, if you get a first class in anatomy or physiology, you CAN get into 400 level in their medical school.

Also, I knew a doctor who came up via that route. He didn't have to do NYSC once house job was finished, the lucky guy cheesy
Lmao 😂😂😂
400 level ke . .. Direct entry is 200 level everywhere. And yes I finished from Ibadan .
You are definitely not a medical student like you falsely claimed.
No way a medical student wouldn’t know you can’t join medical school in 400 level . SMH

The cold secret of medical students is....our books are all too bulky, and yes, we wonder also how we go manage finish am before session ends...

Yes, all of us have that fear. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not telling the truth

The trick is to study the 'vital' parts, not to read the whole book.

Plus other courses have severe bulky books. Like LAW for example. cheesy, even other stem courses.
Its now beyond doubt that you are not a medical student 🫤
Which part isn’t vital in medicine ?? Just Dey play
Even at the post graduate level , you must still go back to read those stuff . Don’t mislead people please

NO SIR!

A graduate of Microbiology
who has already written Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Year 1 (with bulkier books)
Eight semesters
from Year 1 to Year 4
who intends to go back to school to study medicine
can not complain of JAMB books being bulky

Actually this your response has shown me that you are not a graduate
(which is not a crime)

this your post is NOT TRUE!

Again, i am not criticizing you, your post is just not true

Also (i may be wrong) but a graduate of microbiology will not write JAMB and start from year 1 again, but will enter with direct entry

MicroBIOLOGY graduate can not write BIOLOGY in Year 1 again
(i may be wrong)

if your story is true, then i wish you the very best, and dont listen to any negative thought at all

go for what you want - medicine! and in no time, you will graduate
if you don't go for it, you will regret it in future
Well, DE spots are usually very limited and competitive. So starting from 100 level might not be bad after all .
One of my classmates in med school did physiotherapy as first degree and still started 100 level with us because he took another jamb instead of DE.

also in unilorin back then - the first three in bio science courses in 100l would get transfers to medicine.
not sure if it still holds to today.
Yeah
Same thing in Ibadan . Some folks crossed from physiology , biochemistry and Chemistry to medicine after 100 level .
It wasn’t the best 3 tho. There was a cgpa bench mark . In my time , it was folks with at least cgpa of 6.3.
About 15-20 joined us then . Also , DE after a first degree or A level

The slots are always available in private universities. A candidate that scores 280+ will be admitted to study Medicine and Surgery in most Private Universities that offer the course. 300+ guarantees admission into ANY private university to study the course. However, anyone seeking to study Medicine and Surgery in any Private University should be prepared to dole out 3-4 million naira (at the minimum) per annum in tuition, housing and other expenses.
Even 180 Jamb score can get you medicine in most private university.

Sometimes it is not about something being enough. We all have what we desire and that changes as we move up in life from our experiences.

Perhaps Ego, finding fulfilment or just pure challenge, trying new frontiers. Look at you you have a Bachelor Degree already but still want to go read Medicine and Surgery. Why? Only you can answer that because you know what you want and what your hear desire.

When I see someone desires something, I don't discourage him/her so long as they go about it legitimately.

It is your life, you story. You live it and tell it.

you generally cannot enter Medicine in the University of Ibadan (UI) at the 400 level directly through entry exams like UTME or Direct Entry, as these are for 100 and 200/300 levels respectively. However, some students may enter at a higher level if they meet specific criteria such as holding a second-class upper division degree in a relevant field

If you were actually a medical student or if you had actually gone to medical school or you had studied with people in medical school you would not be posting this nonsense

Medical students first mbbs exam is in their 300l. This is a hard barrier they have to pass before they can cross over to actual clinicals in the teaching hospital. Not everyone passes this exam on their first try. Four papers and you must pass all four. Pass three resit. Pass two resit. Anything less you repeat the year. Fail again and you likely have to exit med school.

According to your copy and paste Ai post a person with a 2.1 is deemed to have passed the first mbbs exam and is ready for clinicals.

You and the clown belong in the same boat . It is wrong to come to a public forum to say that medical students cherry pick what to read and understand. We must be circumspect when making opinions here because there are numerous teenagers reading . What impression are folks like you creating in their minds huh

yinkeys:
Okay but don’t they take the same courses from 1st year to 3rd year
Not really
The medical curriculum is different.
For example, a physiology major might be vast in Physiology but what about biochemistry, anatomy( embryology , gross anatomy , neuro anatomy and histology ) and public health. We were even introduced to Path and Pharm from 300 level in my time .
Medical students are often taught separately from 200 level mostly by medical consultants. Most federal institutions follow the same template.
Also, the first professional exam is taken in 300 level which is prerequisite for moving to the clinical aspect of the medical training.

If the degree you have now is science related, then you're a poor student academically, UTME has been watered down over the years, a graduate in any science degree should ne able to score over 300 by just refreshing his brains with the textbooks and any of these apps that treat past questions, i have done this and it took me only two weeks of looking at these elementary concepts.
It took you two weeks to finish jamb syllabus? shocked
