Confession is a step to prove that u identified the error as sin and you have totally repentented from it. It makes it harder for u to get involved in such sin in future. Thats the whole idea

First and foremost God is the only true and wise God, who knows our end from the beginning.
He is not an author of confusion, God will not ask you to confess a sin that could scatter marriage of an unbeliever, or curse chaos that could lead to court cases and protracted legal battles and troubles of an innocent person. It is you that have the encounter not the victim of your crime. So holyspirit will not make you give a person who is yet to have an encounter a burden too cumbersome for their understanding.
His dealings in this case is with you and you alone , God won’t let you drag people who do not understand your encounter into your problems, he knows how to sort you out and give you peace,
Finally it is written in Hebrews 10: 16-17. Yours sins God himself said he will remember it no more. Acts 17:30. Our days of ignorance God will overlook.
