[quote author=MONEY247 post=137629822]The marriage would end up a mirrage...
#100,000 is not feasible financially for a man or woman who wants to marry and live comfortably with their spouse....
Imagine the kids
Imagine the food expense...
Transportation...
Other financial obligations and commitments

You gonna be choked......
Myopic reasoning

50k monthly for food in today's economy for a family of 3, u will know person wey never carry responsibility.
that's how you know them....some of them never handle 300k of their own for life before so they don't how worthless such amount is in today's Nigeria. A single man can't even live comfortably with 200k monthly in Nigeria of today.

If you have IT skills, I can secure a job for you in Ilorin, Kwara State with a salary of 100k a month. It’s not even something serious, just a data entry specialist position.
I am interested, if it can be done remotely.

You're talking about a single man as if some of us aren't single😂. Let's dissect the numbers for someone earning ₦200k monthly.

A decent room self-contain in places like Ikorodu goes for less than ₦400k per annum—that's only two months' salary, handled. Since he's single, ₦100k can easily stretch for a month and a half for feeding. Transportation, even within Lagos, won’t exceed ₦20k monthly. If he's strategic, he invests in himself: he can learn coding for ₦200k and set up a mobile POS business managed by someone else. With that financial strategy, tell me why that guy wouldn’t be living comfortably?

Anyone earning ₦200k who still isn't living comfortably simply lacks strategic financial planning and, frankly, isn't yet fit to handle the complexities of marriage. If he isn’t wise enough to handle what he has.

It is because you are leaving beyond your means. You have two cars and nanny. If your wife need a nanny, she should contribute part of the money.
No mind them... Average Nigerians want to form big...

Earning 200k, send money to parents, pay nanny, fuel 2 cars (meaning for the wife)

That means his salary might be 200k but his income is not 200k.

Most people that are talking here started family when the are earning less that much 30k

oga 100k cannot sustain a family in Nigeria of today. stop misleading people
except u want to raise your family in an obscure village and u have no reasonable plan for your kids.
It is this generation that chooses to create problems for themselves by being greedy. Like I said, people have been surviving with their families even on a lower wage than 100k per month. You must not live in big houses in town and you'll still be happy. Many of us survived infancy without wearing pampas but our good old napkin, so you mustn't spend money on pampas and stuffs like that. Cut your clothes according to your size like the saying goes.

1. Bushel of rice – 15,000

2. Beans 5 measures – 7,500

3. Palm oil 1 litre – 3,000

4. Groundnut oil 2 litres – 6,000

5. Gas – 8,000

6. Corn flour – 5,000

7. Soup items – 5,000

8. Money for soup preparation – 10,000 × 4 weeks = 40,000

9. Miscellaneous – 15,000

10. Savings – 15,000

TOTAL = 139,500

100,000 should be enough as you won't have to buy some items monthly.

Someone earning 250k should not try to go close. The person earning 100k should not even promised any woman marriage.

I used to advice men to marry quick but now...I really do not have any advice to give again.

If u don't marry wisely, the marriage would hit u like where a trailer had a head on collision.

Marriage is very dangerous without adequate money to run its internal costs.

I earn 200k plus but it doesn't last me two days. After paying my nanny, pay my children teachers and give to my parents, set aside Nepa bill, fueling two cars in a month, feeding in a month...I might have spent close to
1.2m...it is crazy...not to mention other sundry expenses...all thanks to my side income.

What do i know self..marriage is not for the faint hearted my people.

If u must marry, marry a financially prepared spouse. That doesn't mean u should look for a rich woman or man ...no! but a woman/ man who is financially prepared to manage with u,live with u in tough days and not a downer
Your earnings 200k above and fueling two cars with a nanny as well? You better not continue this way next year.

All these earning big before marriage is a joke

I have people who earn big before getting married then lose their job, will they send the woman back to her parents

This issue of seeing parenting as a liability is why Europe is collapsing to immigrants

Re: Someone Earning 100k Naira, Should Not Consider Marriage by pansophist(m): 11:53am On Nov 30, 2025
Two good heads will always be better than one.

If a girl is earning 50k, and a man is earning 100k, they can both get married if they are good to each other and will contribute t make their marriage work.

because if they dont get married, the girl earning 50k will still have to survive on her 50k, and the man will still have to survive on his 100k independently.

It is easy for two people to manage 150k together, than for a girl to manage 50k, and the man manage 100k independently. Just as it it easier for four people to use on uber car, then for each to pay independently if they are going to the same destination.

Value should not be money based only, but essence. With two people, growth is easier, one can hold down for the other to go explore and take a bit of risk to increase income.

But if a woman is selfish and only wants to come to marriage and enjoy while being poor herself, then the man is better off alone, you do not need leech in your life. Life is hard already.

You really surprise me and I’m still in shock we have youth thinking like you. You don’t have any computer skill, you don’t wanna learn one or even go for a second degree to boost your cv and earn higher and the next thing is for you to start thinking of bleep and highness?

You couldn’t even start POS With the advantage of being single😳 and the crazy part is time is ticking.

When we have billions of IT Skills that can earn more than 1 million every month. I cry for the average Nigerian youth.

I’m flabbergasted 😯

From the depth of my heart, I’ll advise you (if truly you’re earning 200k) leave cars and baggy jeans, invest in yourself— you can learn a particular skill with 200k and perfect it. When you become a professional, you’ll see baggy and it won’t even entice you. Mark Zuckerberg wear one type of clothes regularly. Tell me he’s poor? Elon musk is always with his black on black, yes it might be expensive but I don’t expect him to buy same as snoop dog. That job that’s paying you 200k, there’s no security and you can be let out anytime. A word is enough.

I’ve got some questions:

— What if both of them are earning #100,000 ?🤔

— If you’re able to save 30k monthly, what’s stopping any of them from starting a side hustle like POS or provision sales?

— Let’s imagine the lady is industrious and has a skill (hairdressing or make up skills) what’s stopping you from marrying her?

— If you’re above forty but you have a house and everything is put in place, why shouldn’t you get married?

— If the family is supportive and don’t need an elaborate wedding for now till you’re okay, should you still boycott marriage?
Don't plan by your wife's income because one day she throw it at your face
