So tell us the real figure since you claim he is lying?
bixton:
For clarity, Nigeria spent roughly N18 trillion on fuel subsidy over a period of 12 years, a national programme that directly cushioned millions of Nigerians, stabilised the transport sector, and helped keep food prices manageable.

Atiku just like all politicians will only reach out to those who refused to think for themselves irrespective of their level of education.

We can agree, that the subsidy stabilized the transport sector and helped keep food prices manageable.
But the truth is that the subsidy regimes only appealed to those who were only benefiting from the scheme directly. Those whose bank accounts received alerts for payments of non existent supply of petroleum products while the masses languish in ignorance.

Yet, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the country has now expended nearly the same amount in a single year on the same subsidy and opaque pipeline security contracts awarded to private firms tied to associates and cronies of the President.

Atiku please be reminded that you said that it's your cronies you'll also give out contracts and especially sell the Nigerian refineries to just like under your watchful eyes as VP, Nigerian assets were sold for less it's value.

However, the same administration has now channelled N17.5 trillion—an amount that could transform Nigeria’s power sector, rebuild our refineries, or fund universal healthcare

Is Atiku referring to the refineries that during the administration of his boss, POBJ there were a continuous unsuccessful TAM for the two tenures they enjoyed!huh?!!?!!.

Even the Aso Villa health care facility can't be used by Atiku while he was in office, if they couldn't find it to be able to make good use of it for themselves is it the health care facilities around the entire nation that they would fund properly and if they have done that during their tenure from 1999 till they left office that sector would not have medical practitioners embarking on strikes.
Indeed Atiku may be lying but the problem is the painful obvious contradiction. Fuel subsidy is gone and Nigerians pay so much times more yet NNPC appears to lazily lump under recovery, pipeline protection and repairs, losses from theft and the challenges from high exchange rate into pipeline protection. There should be much better accountability for this to make sense. Besides this figure portends more to 2024 than 2025 but 18trillion in 12 years is far cheaper than 17.5 trillion in 1 year unless there's a grand pleasant benefit to come sooner.

Whatever Atiku is saying is just half truths. Every administration does that.
Now, the word subsidy was just substituted as "under recovery". I once read about it somewhere and it's a funny approach to running an economy.

In as much as we can say 18 trillion in 12 years is cheaper than 17.5 trillion in 1 year......I can't say if this values are correct but we have to remember that the currency exchange between dollar/naira has increased tremendous.....I still remember that before the elections dollar/naira was $1/#150, but now it's about $1/#1500 approx.

If spending that money will guarantee peace and reduce oil theft in the Niger Delta, it is worth it.

The problem here is that the contracted is awarded to Tinubu's cronies. Give the contract to Niger Delta people - it's not like I see any benefit they derive from being Nigerians.
Try and think

How much is the national budget

How much is the total revenue from oil

Very annoying when people talk nonsense without engaging their brains

How can that story possibly be true?

If true how can it be worth it?

Meanwhile, according to the Budget Office of the Federation, the total “oil and gas revenue before deductions” accrued to the government in 2024 was ≈ ₦15.07 trillion.

After accounting for deductions (costs, joint-venture obligations, etc.), the “net oil revenue” to the federation (i.e. what flowed into the federation account) was ≈ ₦12.95 trillion in 2024.

Yet Our lazy Yoot with no capacity for critical reasoning accept that 17 trillion was spent to protect pipelines

Over 60% of oil output is OFFSHORE

Kindly fact check

MEANING 17 TRILLION WAS USED TO PROTECT REVENUE OF ABOUT 5 TRILLION?
What is the budget for the Army , Airforce NavyPolice and all uniformed men combined?

thisweekng:
The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Chief Olawale Edun has said the last time Nigeria’s economy looked stable was about a decade ago.

He made this statement during his maiden press conference as Minister of Finance where he outlined President Bola Tinubu’s vision, agenda and strategy for the economy.

He said, “I think as we all know, we are not where we should be. The economy is barely growing above the rate of population growth.

“But it was not always so, and I think in trying to look at the way forward, if we now have a situation of slow growth, double-digit inflation, weak/depreciating exchange rate, as well as security concerns that are resulting in an economy that is not growing and not taking Nigerians out of poverty.

“If we think back to the last time when the economy was stable- when it was growing, when inflation was low, and the interest rate was affordable, that period was about a decade ago. Growth was about 6% in 2013 and 2014.”

total revenue from oil to federation account in 2024 was just under 13 trillion naira

That money is shared between the states local government areas and federal government

Just under 70% of Nigerian crude is offshore meaning pipelines in the creeks account for under 35% of that 13 trillion about 4trillion

So spending 17 trillion to protect 4 trillion is strange
Where does the money come from?

Honestly look in the mirror
You will see a hangabout whatever that means

Stop talking nonsense! Do you even know how much 18 trillion is? It Is a fact that when pipeline surveillance started with Tantita, the amount awarded was 4 billion monthly. How did it get to 18 trillion! We have a right to disagree with the figure because it is outrageous. He who assert must prove! Atiku is the one bandying figures all about! We made enough for Tinubu and APC to buy more luxury for themselves as 200 million Nigerians groaned under hiked petrol cost and hyperinflation.

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

Can it be why Tinubu and APC have deliberatley made people less educated and giving them palliatives instead of jobs, to worsen poverty in Stalinist Stockholm syndrome fashion huh

fuckJones:
(A case study of Nigeria citizens & their elected oppressors).

During the Soviet dictatorship of Joseph stalin. He was a brutal dictator with mind of his own. On one fateful day, stalin came to Politburo meeting with a live chicken. Standing in front of audience, He started to pluck the feathers of the live chicken off one by one. The chicken trembled in pain, blood tricking out of its pores. It gave out grievous cries, but stalin being a cruel dictator continued without remorse plucking the feathers out until the chicken was completely Unclad. After which, he threw the chicken on the ground. The Unclad chicken was staggering in pain. stalin goes into his pocket and from his pockets, he took out some chicken food and started to throw it at the poor & hapless creature. The poor chicken in pain started eating and stalin started walking towards his seat. As he walked away, he kept dropping some feeds on the floor & the chicken followed him and sat feeding from his feet.

Joseph stalin then turned to members of his political party leadership. He said, "This chicken represents the people". "You must disempower them, brutalise them, beat them up, starve them and then leave them". "If you do this, go into your pocket & give them peanuts when they are in that helpless and desperate situation, they will blindly follow you for the rest of their life, worshiping you". "They will think you are a hero forever. They will forget that, you're responsible for their sorrowful situation in the first place." Breath taking, isn't it ?

Now! Take a look at all the people some Nigerians are busy defending on social media. Take a look at those they call their heroes. They are the same people who plunged Nigeria into the situation she is. They are the same people who are responsible for their predicaments. Did you see the numbers of people that throng to Saraki's House during this Sallah period to go collect peanuts? People trooping to Bola Ahmed Tinubu Foundation offices to collect branded One kilo bag of Rice & Noddles. Did you see the number of people of all ages who troop out to welcome Ex- convict James Ibori to South South! Do you see the number of handle mop following obi as if he is a seat? what of the one following dino malaye?

Your guess is as good as mine. Nigerians kill those they should defend and defend those they should kill! Pass to all your contacts & let your Political & Religion Leaders read, understand & digest.
