Enugu Jails Labour Leader Over Fuel Subsidy. Why ? by aljharem(m): 10:38pm On Jan 11, 2012 |
By Tony Adibe, Enugu An Enugu State labour leader, Comrade Festus Ozoeze was today arrested by the police, tried by a mobile court and remanded at the Enugu prisons for attempting to implement the nationwide strike ordered by the organised labour against the removal of fuel subsidy. The state Governor, Sullivan Chime reportedly ordered the setting up of the special court to try any worker and members of the organised labour found to have violated his order banning public assemblies, meetings and procession in the state. Ozoeze, who is the unit Vice Chair of Amalgamated Workers Union in Enugu State Water Cooperation, was said to have been arrested by the police, tried by one Magistrate Mba who presided over the tribunal set up by the State government at the premises of the Police CID and sent to the Enugu prisons for alleged conspiracy and breach of public peace. Enugu State Head of service, Mr. Dennis Eze, who led some government officials to unlock some government offices padlocked by labour leaders reportedly petitioned against Ozoeze alongside his Chairman at the Water Corporation, Comrade Timothy Ojielo and State Chairman of his union, Comrade Chris Elibe accusing them of violating the governor's order. It was learnt that the labour leaders were declared wanted by the police. http://dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=151921:subsidy-protests-day-10-ibadan-police-kill-27-year-old-new-dad&catid=2:lead-stories&Itemid=8 |

Because he broke the law , that is why. We don't need saboteurs (classic case of Yoruba) to tell us how to rule our land. Thread closed or you gonna receive barrage of assaults. |

The courts will release him, if not at the high court then at the appeal court, then he can sue the state government and make some cool cash, the governor is an idiot for that action. |

Is this not the rap-ist governor that slep with his wife's sister ? What do you expect from a useless he-goat who stole his way to become a state governor ? All his attempt to oppress the poor ibos who opposed the removal of subsidy will eventually fail. |

alj harem: There is nothing about dictatorship during the arrest of anybody who tends to engage in the breach of public peace. Anybody who engages in the breach of public peace will be arrested in countries capable of practicing democratic system of government talk less of mere geographical expression such as Nigeria. Please quit fooling yourself about Nigeria and rule of law. Not all protests are legal |

Disturbing the peace ke? This chime is a useless S.O.B. There is a constitutional right to lawful assembly and right to expression. This crap charge will not stick when the case goes on appeal but chime will always have this on his so called "good record". Honestly I trusted that beast |
Re: Enugu Jails Labour Leader Over Fuel Subsidy. Why ? by infofta(m): 11:21am On Jan 12, 2012 |
There is even protest in Bayasa. Ibos could not raise the protest for the killings of ibos in the north, could not protest fuel subsidy removal. Shame. The governor is waiting for his share of subsidy funds that may not come. Subsidy funds is less than 300 billion naira don't be deceived. 1.3 trillion is to convice the masses they will have enough money to spend. |
