You’re right: many countries appoint non-career ambassadors. That doesn’t mean anyone is fit.
Diplomacy isn’t about fanfare or social-media noise ,it’s about discretion, emotional intelligence, temperament, subtlety, consistency, tact.
Reno Omokri built his brand on spectacle, trolling, protests and online drama, the exact opposite of what you want representing your country abroad.
So no, it’s not a matter of “career vs non-career.” It’s a matter of ambassadorial quality vs unfit performance, and by that measure, he falls short.
That's why I am telling you guys, get your senator to pass a law to allow for qualified diplomats to get jobs as ambassadors...that keeps out the Reno Omokiri's from getting such jobs.

Never send an electronics engineer to do surgery on a sick cat.

Tinubu have demonstrated the highest level of incompetence imagine rewarding cronies with ambassadorial role simply because they can imagine opposition figures ...this is grossly incompetence and should not stand

I trust the Nigerian Senate, they will block him. He has no business being an international representative of Nigeria. This is a position that requires tact and diplomacy. He has none of these.
The Nigerian Senate that just went to the villa to eat a pot of porridge or which senate?
Even Kabiru Sokoto will be given a clean bill of character if Tinubu sends his name to Akpabio.
It has never been as bad as this.

Make una all free this guy na. Reno may be nasty with words and attitude, but he will deliver. And I think he is going to Europe. His guy is Mallam Ribadu. Ribadu drew him into the camp, and we know how big Ribadu is with Tinubu.

The truth is that ONLY Atiku has passed through Tinubu to bid for the presidential seat and is contesting against him. It says a lot about Atiku. Every other person appreciated him. I'm sure that even Buhari had to slow down from preventing him to replace him when his corner was pressing him. So, Ribadu is a big shot in the govt. The man who single handedly dealt seriously with El Rufai. Lol.

Reno is very good, and he wil deliver.

Omokri doesnt have what it takes to represent Nigeria in Burundi. He lacks anything ambassadorial and its an insult on other ambassadors if someone like him gets mixed up with them.
Look at his current oga and him. They are on the same mold.

Senate will block Reno?? Since this Senate started, have u seen them objectively oppose the president ?? The Nigerian Senate along side the other arms of goverment have always been a weapon fashioned against Nigerians...

What made Reno's name appear on that list in the first place is the same thing that will approve him.......
Re: Jonathan’s Kinsmen Divided Over Omokri’s Ambassadorial Nomination by casualobserver: 9:13am On Dec 01, 2025
I don’t know why people are giving themselves headaches for nothing.

I am not a fan of Reno but being made an ambassador doesn’t mean you will be sent to a top country. He will likely be sent to somewhere like Togo, Uganda or a western country Nigeria doesn’t really care about like Ukraine or Sweden.

If you want to stop hearing from Reno, this is exactly how you shut him up. You send him on an ambassadorial posting to some remote country.

Why exactly will any sane country reject Reno Omokri? Make it make sense pls. I’m listening.
First of all, just for political expediency or probably the briefing he has from certain quarters,he played active role in pushing tribal bashing online(so called ambassador),putting a knife on things that hold the ethnic groups together. It means the president approved such, who that's interesting.
Several of his postings online has been bursted and found to be untrue, just a mere political jobber.
The same man kept telling the whole world that Mr president was a drug baron, took to the gutters to even tell Nigerians a d the whole world that the president hygiene is in question(I would want to mention what he said on this platform because atleast I still have some respect to whoever presides as the president of my country),the list of his infractions are endless.
At a time we have trust issue and the west view on us.
Then his posting sends the wrong message to our youths whom now knows that being a political jobber and a charlatan pays in Nigeria. The president is causing a great damage on psych of our gen z population.

Omokri's nomination is just for formality, Tinubu expects the people to reject him.
Tinubu will no longer be blamed for Reno's rejection, he tried to pay him back for his services

The Senate under Godswill Akpabio rejected Nasir El-Rufai and two (2) others.

They also rejected Festus Keyamo (SAN) and took the personal intervention of the C-in-C to get a Senate Approval for Keyamo.

Don't underestimate people you have wronged before.

Reno Omokri: The Last Man Nigeria Should Call an Ambassador

Nigeria is a nation fighting for credibility on the world stage, yet somehow, in a moment demanding maturity, depth, and diplomatic steadiness, Reno Omokri has found his way onto an ambassadorial nomination list. If irony were a currency, this alone could fund the national budget.

For years, Omokri built his brand not on policy insight or statesmanship, but on street-corner showmanship, online trolling, and hyper-dramatic protests designed to trend rather than transform. He protested Buhari in front of Abuja House in London with more theatrics than a Nollywood audition. He later turned his sights on President Tinubu, hurling wild accusations and indulging in the kind of loud political mudslinging no serious diplomat would ever touch.

Now we’re expected to believe this same man, who spent years amplifying chaos, stoking division, and reinventing himself to suit the next political wind, is suddenly ambassadorial material? Nigeria deserves better than a professional provocateur performing diplomacy like a Twitter skit.

Ambassadors require emotional intelligence, restraint, composure, and the ability to build bridges even with opponents. Reno Omokri’s public record shows the opposite: impulsiveness, performative outrage, attention-seeking, and zero evidence of tact. His résumé boasts hashtags, alter egos, and paid mass protests, not diplomacy, negotiation, or refined statecraft.

Nigerians are looking to the Senate to show spine to declare, boldly and unapologetically, that the nation’s image is not a plaything for internet personalities seeking their next spotlight. The position demands gravitas, not gimmicks; credibility, not clout-chasing.

Reno Omokri has every right to political expression, but no claim to an ambassadorial seat. Not with his volatility, not with his inconsistency, and certainly not with the glaring absence of the diplomatic temperament such a role demands.

Nigeria cannot afford an ambassador who treats governance like content creation. The world is watching and the Senate must act accordingly.

I'm just amused with nigerians

Ambassadorial roles are rarely for diplomats...most of the time, they are rewards for cronies, and VIP's who can be useful or have been useful to the government, and yes for propaganda chaps like Omokiri.

It's common even in other countries. In the USA, the daughter of the late President Kennedy was appointed as an ambassador by a previous administration. In times past the former child actress Miss Temple was appointed as USA ambassador to two countries. NONE of them had diplomatic expereince.

Maybe for the really important roles they will give a proper diplomat eg Nigeria ambassador to the USA.

The real job will be done by the diplomats working under the eye candy ambassadors.

It's been like that for decades. At one time our ambassador to the UK was (drumroll) a former captain of industry. Not a trained diplomat. And he was on seat for years.

You can grumble, or get your senator to pass a law that restricts ambassadorial roles to ACTUAL DIPLOMATS...preferrably those with a degree in international studies self. But no Nigerian will do that, because it prevents chopping in the future. Including the senators who are eyeing such jobs when their time in the NA finishes.
Don't mind those holier than thou analyst......omokri has earned his keep and smartly so,let him enjoy it in peace......this haters were the ones to always quick to lampoon Reno for not being rewarded by this govt despite his yeoman's job at defending it even more vociferously than the president's party men,now he is being rewarded, they are now all crying wolf.

Tinubu is to blame. He can work with demons as long as those demons are protecting his interest. Looking at some of the characters he works in Lagos will tell you that Tinubu doesn't care about integrity. As long as you do his bidding, then you are good to go.
