Olusegun Obasanjo is the worst President in the history of Nigeria 🇳🇬 and I will explain why….. 1. He is the architect of Terrorism in Nigeria 🇳🇬 as it was in his regime that permitted the full scale practice of Sharia Law. He gave Ahmad Sani Yerima approval to practice Sharia in Zamfara and it was eventually accepted to run in 12 Northern States. He was an incompetent President who said “I approved it because it will die a natural death.” 2. Nigeria officially lost the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon following a 2002 International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling and a subsequent agreement in 2006 under his nose because he was busy pursuing a selfish agenda of second term at the time and a place in AU 3. This criminal violated human rights rights severally using military force in a democratic dispensation: Odi massacre: The military operation in Odi, Bayelsa State, which involved the razing of the town and the killing of hundreds (possibly thousands) of civilians, occurred in November 1999. Zaki Biam massacre: The killing of more than 200 unarmed civilians by the army in several communities in Benue State (often collectively referred to as the Zaki Biam massacre) occurred in October 2001. 4. So many corruption cases sprung up from 1999 - 2007 including the Obasanjo’s personal endless corrupt practices centred around building of his Obasanjo Presidential Library, Bells University among others. 5. Obasanjo practically installed his successor in an election that was noted for massive irregularities and malpractices. This administration he installed gave birth to the Boko Haram terrorists which he once went to visit in Borno state without any reasonable head way. 6. He had the opportunity to RESET Nigeria in the early stage of a new democracy, but he went about victimising oppositions, pursuing selfish agendas and looking for unnecessary international recognition at the detriment of Nigeria’s future. I will stop here for now. Let’s not even talk about his tenure as military head of state. This evil and corrupt man has no moral justification to go about dishing ideas and criticisms.

DadaEleniyan:You are both right. Obasanjo had 2 golden opportunities to set Nigeria on the right path. But because of short-sightedness, he squandered both of them and gave us the Unindependent electoral commission which now led to the current disaster of a government. |

He is not only the worst president, He is also the worst person in Yoruba land and I know I'm speaking the minds of most Yorubas who are pro-awoism. I'm trying my best to know the international Disgrace that Obasanjo brought to Nigeria like Tinubu as a confirmed international drug dealer who forfeited a lot of money to the American government. 😈😈😈 |

DadaEleniyan:If I go that route this thread will never have enough space. So let go this other way. Tell me any sector this government is doing better than any government. Give the figures or numbers whr it was before this government. Then give the new figures showing it has improved on it that makes it better. Don't use the figures they created in 2023 against what ever they claim in 2025.I hope my French is clear.Or better still use figures in obj tenure to thr present figures All sectors or segment of human life. |

| Re: Olusegun Obasanjo Is Nigeria’s Worst President by brain54(m): 1:42pm On Dec 04, 2025 |
DadaEleniyan:Let me take you point by point bro... Firstly when you say something is the worst means you are comparing it with something else right? So something can be bad, or not perfect but not the worst when compared with others. 1. Shari'a law in the north isn't the direct cause of insecurity in the region. Blaming insecurity in the north today is at best an over simplification of the matter. Insecurity in that part is more political than religious. I think what obj was avoiding at the time was a break down of order by refusing shari'a. On hindsight now he probably would not have let it. But you can not always predict the future accurately. That's why he thought boko haram would die a natural death ( that's if he actually made that comment. Because I have never seen it before. But let's assume he actually made it) even I in the early days of boko haram in gej's government used to say that we were giving BH too much attention than it deserved. It was a rag tag army that would fizzle out with time etc. But then I guess we were all wrong. But as I have said and continue to insist shari'a is a problem on its own in the sense that it creates parallel laws from the constitution. But also realize that countries that practice true federalism also have laws that differ from state to state. For example a different law can be applicable in the state of California from what applies in Florida in the US. The problem with shari'a is that it is basically retrogressive and maybe not applicable to modern times. The long and short of this is that shari'a in itself isn't the direct cause of insecurity in the country today. 2. Did you really expect or would you have adviced obj to have acted differently and refuse to accept the ICJ judgement or ruling for which Nigeria is a signatory and has signed treaties with to abide by decisions? What would you have done differently after the judgement. Pray tell me? 3. Human rights violations were truly carried out under his watch. And you have sighted very good examples and instances with the zaki biam and odi massacres but these aren't the worst cases of human rights violations that have happened in this country Nigeria. Even buhari s and tinubu s regimes that are also democratic ones can be argued to have carried out more systematic violations of human rights of citizens. I'm not making a case for obj and violations and massacre of innocent lives is inexcusable. But remember that these were different times and we were just emerging from military rule then. As such obj needed a strong hand and show of force to govern. And it worked then because people knew him as a no nonsense person and thought twice before carrying out irresponsible and miscalculated actions. In all I can not say he did well on this aspect but he wasn't the worst. 4. Obj didn't have the worst cases of corruption under his government. His government wasn't the perfect model but gej's government, buharis government and tinubus government have shown signs and have proven to be more corrupt than objs. Gej had cases on a scale that were surprisingly astonishing and unprecedented with cases like diziani Alison madueke, olisah mentu and a whole lot of cases that was frightening to hear after he left power. Buhari to the bigot and nepotistic one also had corruption in his government and cabinet that was equally as corrupt if not more. And I think the magnitude of the scale was only watered down because same party - the APC took over after his tenure and that's why you never heard the full scale and magnitude of what bahari did. Even tinubu government is not different and it's there for all to see. I don't want to talk about tinubus government but it's probably the worst government in terms of corruption and insensitivity to the situation of the country at the moment. Even if some of these prior governments were corrupt at least there had a way of solving national issues. Don't forget obj created the only anti corruption bodies like the icpc and efcc that were active during his tenure and had and procecuted high profile cases that made it feared and respected to an extent. Compare the efcc and ICP then and now that has been reduced to a toothless bull dog that can't bite nor even bark. An agency that can't handle corruption cases especially of high profile individuals but instead have focused on petty thieves and yahoo boys. Who is yahaya Bello that efcc would not have tackled by now under objs watch? Also the police was also playing it's part in the corruption fight. We had the most equipped police force under obj. This is not directly under government corruption but I thought to give them an honorary mention. Short of this long story is obj never had the most corrupt government. On the contrary he had the most fair and most corrupt free government. (Pls pay attention to my tenses. I didn't say it was corruption free) 5. Nigeria has had only a few elections. With the military taking a major chunk of rulership of this country. We have had only a few elections that we can judge from. The election conducted by objs inec. I can't remember if that's what it was called then... that brought in yaradua had it's irregularities and problems as you have stated. Even the beneficiary of that election yaradua admitted that it wasn't a free election devoid of irregularities. But yaradua was an honest man and that is why he admitted this. The irregularities that happened in that election is child's play when compared pari paso with the election that brought tinubu and his cronies like wike to power. It is child's play compared to the magic that yakubu who strangely enough is on tinubus ambassadorial list. Tinubu can't even hide the fact that he is trying to compensate certain people that worked for him. But like I said I don't want or like to talk about tinubu. The election you are talking about is not worse than the election that brought buhari to power. That Jonathan conceded is because he never wanted the country to burn under his watch. Not because it was not laced with irregularies under jega. Again it wasn't the worst election obj conducted or Nigeria has seen in this country. The government obj "installed" didn't birth boko haram. BH started or gained grounds during gej's tenure and exploded and expanded during buharis government. It has since gone atomic and uncontrollable under tinubu's government. 6. Obj indeed had the chance of fixing the country because he was the first to come to power after return to democracy. And he did his best. All the problems of Nigeria can not be settled and solved in 4 or 8 years. You can only solve some and set a good and solid foundation that the next person or predecessor can build on. Obj built a foundation but it wasn't developed further by the next set or generation of leaders that came after him Like obj or not and with all his characteristic flaws and imperfections he is one of the most fair, untribalistic and generally the best leaders (if not the best) to have ever ruled Nigeria as a country. As a country Nigeria was more unified and United and feared and respected by the international community under his watch and not the shameful and disgraced country it has degenerated to under subsequent leadership. Don't also forget that he returned Nigeria to Democratic rule when the military was being insincere and playing games about returning power. Obasanjo deserves more accolades and respect than is accorded him. The man is a hero. Pay him his respects and stop comparing him to charlatans like buhari and tinubu! |

DadaEleniyan:1. Sharia law was in the constitution he inherited. How it got there is a long story ( go back to the constituent assembly of 1978 , and also realize that the sharia law was a compromise as there were people who wanted sharia courts in every part of the country). Obasanjo could not stop the adoption of sharia even if he wanted to. The law was clear. Sharia could be adopted by any state so long as the state assembly approved it, and it could not be forced on states that did not want it. For obsanjo to stop sharia would have required a constitutional amendment which is a process that could take years. Finally Obasanjo passing a decree to stop sharia would have violated the principle of true federalism. Every state has the right to set it's laws as it sees fit. ( Sharia is archaic though) As for terrosim, consider that as being due to mass poverty in a nation with poor economic growth with high unemployment. That's what shekau used to mobilize youth to fight for him. 2.If you know the history of the bakassi peninsula ( look for the bakassi story by the late Nowa Omoigui) that case was bound to be a losing one from the word go. Nigeria made the mistake of going to the court. We should have held on to baksassi while asking for a UN supervised vote on which size bakassi people should choose Plus it wasn't Obasanjo that took us to the ICJ. It was abacha. And it was abacha that signed the agreement to abide by the ruling. Green tree just formalized the previous agreement. 3,4 : totally agreed. 5. Elections in Nigeria are not rigged. Most Nigerians vote for who they know. And in most instances it is the big parties. In 2003 I supported Gani fawehimni the candidate of the NCP. Tell people to vote for him, Dem go say you are wasting your vote, even my brother self said the same thing. Nothing like rigging in naija. 6. Agreed |

DadaEleniyan:I wont call him the worst because no one can beat Abacha but He was definitely not a good president. The fact he easily released a sovereign land to Cameroun without a fight is treasonous. I have never seen any country willingly cede their land without a war or invasion and a resource filled one at that. It was short sighted and cowardly of him. |

He only obeyed the international court ruling. It was ceded to Cameron during civil war to create blockage of supplys to biafran during the war. So u want to turn around and collect it back. The French government would have come for u as they have protection agreement with Franco countries |
