Has anyone come back to Nigeria to get the Canadian Passport after getting the birth certificate?

Considering this option because of time.

Thanks

I don’t think you can travel out of Canada with the child without a passport, be it naija or CA passport, the child needs a valid travel document.

You need the child’s Canadian passport to travel with the child.
And ETC to enter Nigeria with the child since he/she doesn’t have Nigeria passport.

You can expedite passport processing, I think there is different options including same day. But this will only work if both parents are present in Canada, if the father is not in Canada, he will be required to visit the Canada high commission located in the country he is in to sign the application and this is based on appointment.

Thanks but you dont need a passport to travel - that what an ETC is for. Once again, thanks.

You don’t need a passport to travel internationally by Airhuh
Reallyhuh?
I don’t believe this o… and wont advised anyone to try it, only because I don’t have strength for wahala

And is ETC not for the destination country because the child/person doesn’t have the passport of the country of destinationhuh Also in the transit country, passport was requested.

Well I know and only speaking of what I did and what worked for me.

If you traveled back with your baby and didn’t use passport, kindly enlighten us on the process, cos applying and waiting for passport can add up to 3weeks extra to one’s stay.

An easier option will be nice… Thank you

You only think you an ETC to travel because the child was born in Canada where there is birth citizenship what if it was born in Germany?

There would be no passport because there is no citizenship by law - you would either get a Nigerian passport or use an ETC as an identification document.

An ETC is a just a one time passport

Hello everyone.

Please for those that got to POE and did not
declare they were coming to give birth (maybe because bump wasn’t showing). Were you asked why you were staying that long? What was your response. Do they give you a specific date that you must leave Canada?

Canadian passport takes about 24hrs to 72hrs for expedited passport. You can not travel with the child without an international passport

Hi all,
please has any one been able to cover medical costs related to childbirth in Canada via an international health insurance scheme?
OR
must all foreigners pay the medical bills in cash and later get reimbursement from the insurance company?

Hello Everyone,

Please i just got my visa and have started looking for hospitals. I need some guidance on how to go about this. I plan to give birth in Edmonton, Alberta as that is where I have family.

Someone recommended 2 community hospitals but i couldn’t find an email on their website just phone numbers. Also am I supposed to contact the hospital or an obgyn. Should I send an email or call first?

Please assist me. I am 25 weeks gone and I hear they stop accepting patients when they start reaching 30weeks.

If you have Dr’s I can contact. Please also share thanks a lot.

Thank you.

Hello everyone..First time here please.
I am planning to give birth in Canada and I would really appreciate guidance. I am looking for:
Affordable hospitals and doctors/obstetricians for delivery
Pediatricians for newborn care
Provinces or cities that are more affordable
Information about obtaining the baby’s documents, such as birth certificate and passport
I would be grateful for any advice, personal experiences, or direction on how to go about this.
Thank you so much for your help!

Is it best to apply for a birth tourism or visit visa. Also, my husband is a Ghanian and I'm a Nigerian, I am yet to apply for Ghana passport, as I have been using my Nigerian passport, I will love to use his document as my sponsor, hope it won't be an issue. Also my husband works for a multinational firm in Nigeria and we have an insurance that covers child birth anywhere in the world for the birth of 3kids, please how do we use it or we should just use our money. I will be glad if I get response. Thank you moms in the house
Please can you share the name of the insurance company that covers child birth anywhere in the world 🙏

I recently gave birth in Canada, and since I read so many helpful posts about the process on this blog before traveling, I felt it was only right to come back and share my own experience, including the costs, hospital options, accommodation, and other useful information for anyone considering the same journey.

This was actually my second time visiting Canada, and I honestly think that helped during my Port of Entry (POE) process. I was barely questioned by immigration officers. The entry process was very smooth — it almost felt like no one was paying attention to me.

Before arriving in Canada, I had already contacted several hospitals through email to ask about their maternity packages and delivery costs. A few hospitals replied with detailed information, so by the time I landed, I already knew the hospitals I wanted to consider.

The first hospital I contacted, and also the most affordable among the ones I checked, was Mackenzie Health Hospital.

Below were their estimated childbirth costs:

MACKENZIE HEALTH HOSPITAL COST BREAKDOWN

Initial Deposit:
- CAD $20,000 deposit required to cover hospital and physician fees.

Please note:
This deposit does NOT include:
- Antenatal care
- Postpartum care in the OBGYN’s office
- Anesthesiologist fees

Additional Fees:
- Anesthesiologist: CAD $1,500 – $3,500
- C-Section fee: CAD $875
- OBGYN fee: CAD $5,000

What the CAD $20,000 deposit covers:
- Mother’s shared room (3–4 beds): CAD $3,000 per 24 hours
- Baby care: CAD $1,500 per 24 hours
- NICU (if needed): CAD $2,200

I eventually decided not to use this hospital because I did not have family or close friends living nearby. Since I wanted a place where relatives and friends could easily visit and support me, I chose another hospital instead.

The hospital I eventually used was:

WRHN (Waterloo Regional Health Network)

Below is my full cost breakdown:

Hospital Deposit:
- CAD $10,000

Additional Costs:
- Anesthesiologist fee: CAD $1,500 (paid in cash)
- OBGYN fee: CAD $5,000
- C section : CAD $ 3,500
- Mother’s hospital bed: CAD $3,520 × 2 days
- Baby’s hospital stay: CAD $2,120 × 2 days

Accommodation to stay on arrival-
- First 7 days Airbnb: CAD $1,200
- Monthly accommodation after that: CAD $1,100 × 3 months

Food:
- Approximately CAD $1,200 monthly × 3 months

TOTAL EXPENSES

Total spent overall:
- CAD $29,380
- Approximately USD $21,450
- Approximately ₦30 million naira

This total includes:
- Hospital bills
- Doctor’s fees
- Accommodation
- Feeding

Please note:
- Flight tickets were NOT included in this calculation.
- Delivery date: April 2026

Overall, my experience was smooth and positive. Planning ahead, contacting hospitals early, and arranging accommodation before delivery really helped reduce stress. I hope this breakdown helps anyone considering giving birth in Canada understand the possible costs and prepare better.
