Pensioners Threaten Nationwide ‘Naked’ Protest Over Unpaid Arrears

The Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria said its was planning a nationwide ‘naked’ protest to press home its demand for the payment of outstanding pension increment arrears and palliative allowances owed to its members.

National Chairman of the Coalition, Mukaila Ogunbote, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

Ogunbote, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NIPOST Chapter), stated that the protest would take place on December 8 unless the Federal Government pays the arrears of N32,000 pension increment and a N25,000 palliative allowance approved in 2023.

“The Federal Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office are not taking us seriously, so all pensioners must come out en masse to fight the injustice,” he said.

According to him, the protest will take place in Abuja, Lagos and all other states.

During the protest, Ogunbote explained that demonstrations will be staged at the offices of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate as well as in front of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) stations.

He urged chairmen and secretaries of organisations under the coalition to mobilise their members, stressing the need for a united front.

“We must show the wound that our clothes are covering. The protest is continuous until we receive an alert of a N32,000 pension increment and N25,000 for six months. Those who can’t come and go back should come with mats.

“All pensioners must come out and fight for their rights,” he directed.

Tinubu failed woefully in every aspect of governance. Man is a disaster. He is busy pardoning and rewarding hardened criminals, while veterans are languishing in penury.

The 35k subsidy money he promised workers still dey voice mail.

Lagos — Pension teachers in Lagos State under the aegis of Teacher Pensioners of Nigeria (TEPAN) have urged Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to review his stance on paying the harmonised three year old outstanding pension allowance or risk losing their votes.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of TEPAN, Mr. Ayodabo 'Lade, accused Tinubu of failing to pay the arrears to teachers on their correct pension grade since the year 2000, contrary to what was obtainable in other five States of the South-west controlled by the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

Lagos needs to pay the retirees their pensions, and quickly too.

I consider Lagos State workers as one of the state workers with best treatments.

i thought they have been paid, so its audio money promises by Tinubu . some of these people were on minimum wage during their service years, just managing, now old and riddled with so much sickness, kidney problems, high blood pressure and all other type of diseases associated with old age. one of our relatives who used to work with the fderal govt has been on 50k monthly pension since 2010 till date and there has been no increment in over 15 years. AGreement was a 15% increase everytime the salaries of workers are increased usually every 4 years..till date no increment.

Why would anyone protest by going naked? It just doesn’t make sense.
It shows how stupidly superstitious our people are. How can you show your naked in the form of protest? What’s that meant to achieve?

Someone said that if old people go naked, the government would suffer, that’s nonsense. The only thing that will achieve is the trauma it’ll cause those seeing some old flabby, wrinkled and battered bodies.

Pensioners should contract the likes of Regina Daniel, Temi and even Kate Henshaw to go naked on their behalves.

Pls any old pensioner older than 60 especially the females that go naked in protest should be sent to Maiduguri prison.

Nigeria is one of the few nations on Earth (if not the only one sef) where deducting and taxing are far easier than using accrued revenues for the good of the very same citizens.
