A GRAVE BREACH OF DECENCY: EFCC’S ATTEMPTED RAID AND DEFACEMENT OF SYLVA’S FAMILY HOME

What unfolded today at the Maitama residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was nothing short of an affront to decency and a troubling assault on the very principles that underpin a civilised society. Officers of the EFCC attempted yet another aggressive intrusion into his home and proceeded to spray-paint his walls in stark red, emblazoning the words “EFCC — KEEP OFF” as though marking the property of a fugitive rather than the home of a respected statesman.

This was done without a single letter, without a subpoena, without a warrant, without notification, and without even the most basic adherence to lawful process. No courtesy. No procedure. No humanity. It is behaviour unbecoming of any institution that claims to act in the national interest.

What deepens the wound is that this is not merely a property; it is the home in which Chief Sylva’s children, relatives, and staff have been effectively encircled for weeks. It is the last space available to them, especially now that it appears they are not permitted to leave the country freely. To violate such a place—without warning, without justification—is to inflict terror upon innocent people who have no connection whatsoever to political gamesmanship.

Where, one must ask, are his children expected to go? How long must they endure this atmosphere of fear and uncertainty?

This is not the conduct of a democracy secure in its values. This is not how an institution established to uphold justice should behave. It speaks to a troubling drift from the rule of law towards something far more arbitrary and vindictive.

We remain firmly convinced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not involved in these excesses. Throughout his long and distinguished public life, the President has shown unwavering respect for due process, fairness, and institutional integrity. This latest incident bears all the hallmarks of local political rivalry being misinterpreted—or mischievously presented—as federal instruction. It is a dangerous muddling of partisan ambition with national authority.

Government agencies and parastatals must never allow themselves to become weapons in political contests. To do so weakens not only the institutions themselves but the very fabric of our democracy.

Chief Sylva has, for decades, served Nigeria with calmness, loyalty, and an almost disarming sense of patriotism. From his stewardship of Bayelsa State to his contributions at the federal level and his continued, unwavering support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he has remained dignified even when confronted with provocation. His commitment to this nation has never faltered.

It is equally important to remind the public that Paganengigha Anagha, Friday Lusa Paul, Musa Mohammed, and Police Officer Reuben Ayuba remain in detention—held for weeks on vague, insubstantial, and nearly non-existent allegations. These are ordinary men, with families and hopes of their own, now caught in a political dragnet that has stripped them of clarity, certainty, and liberty.

Their prolonged detention is unjust. Their suffering is needless. And their situation is emblematic of the wider injustice unfolding before the nation.

Yet, in spite of the pain and the deep emotional strain of this moment, we remain hopeful. Nigeria has weathered storms before—storms of uncertainty, of injustice, of heavy-handedness—and emerged stronger. We believe justice will rise above intimidation, that truth will outlast malice, and that, as with all trials faced with dignity and faith, this too shall pass.

What exactly is Silva's sin against Tinubu? Is it that he is interested in 2027 presidential race and Tinubu is using state apparatus to whittle him down.

The allegation of supporting a coup and his alleged disappearance from the country will cost him every asset he has in this country that the government can identify.

One thing about coup plot is, you better be successful. If not, the government you plotted against will adopt a scorched earth approach and destroy everything about you.

Even your children, and children's children will probably end up changing their surname.

If the allegation against him is proven, there is a good chance non of this man's next 2 generations will be allowed near any government position,or be allowed to contest for anything.

Them getting any job, even in a private company bearing their father's last name will be difficult.

This was especially the case during the military governments of the past. He and his family should hope things are different with this being a civilian government.

and we never heard about the north the main characters behind it.

Tinubu is just a liverless chicken. It’s south south I blame for not being united. If not such audacity of sealing his home will not happen.

Let him go and try it in the north, that re united. No be a mere soldier chase his errand boy Wike away the other time

They can still talk....

If it was military era, all their assets would have been seized and nothing would have happened

Ask Great Ogboru.

Try this with Paul Kagame of Rwanda or late Eyadema Senior of Togo...

No one should pity these elites. They are playing power games and we will get emotional about their predicament whilst they don’t care about what happens us if they were in political leadership.
Re: EFCC Seals Timipre Sylva's Abuja Home, Aide Reacts (Photo) by Heffalump(m): 7:56pm On Dec 08, 2025
The truth is, if Sylva is innocent of the coup allegation, he should be bold enough to come back to Nigeria and clear their doubt.

I don't know why I have an inkling that Sylva was involved in the coup. No military coup succeeds without the involvement of top, rich politicians. Even the best coup plotters have come out to confirm this fact.

There are things that you don't know. Stay clear. You should ask yourself: where is Timipre Sylva? Why is he illusive?
