Super Eagles 28-man squad for AFCON 2025.

Personally, 24-25 is ok really.
William Troost Ekong lost his place and retired.
Ola Aina and Benjamin Fredricks, injured.
Tolu Arokodare and Christantus Uche, more work to do.
Maduka Okoye didn't want to warm bench. Understandable.
Alhassan Yusuf, good riddance.
Francis Uzoho, Cyril Dessers, Paul Onuachu make a comeback.
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, Ryan Alebiosu, Muhammed Usman, Tochukwu Nnadi, Salim Fargo. New faces.

🇳🇬 Good luck to the team as always!

P/S: Eric Chelle most likely submitted 25 names. Muhammed Usman, Tochukwu Nnadi, Salim Fargo are definitely NFF additions. With Muhammed Usman at 31 obviously a Federal Character pick.
The bolded is really a minus for the team especially BENJAMIN.... Very painful!!!

He should lose his number one role at udinese for a bench role at the AFCON. You sef reason am if you were in his shoes
He has made his choice so let him stick with it. He was not in the last Afcon so who’s deceiving him he will just come in and become a starter suddenly

Even onana as Man U keeper was on the bench in the last Afcon

The discourse here is becoming trite and inane. Why are we excusing the fact that there were better options to pick from in the preliminary list than people like Usman Muhammad for instance? Yes, even our best players can be rubbish and useless at times, but is that reasonable cause for us to go and call plumbers from only God knows where? How do you guys even reason things in this country?

Okay fine, our best players flopped at the qualifiers and we need fresh legs. Are you going to foolishly tell me that Usman Muhammad is a better option than Chrisantus Uche or even Peter Agba? We know that these guys have the capacity to at least match up with the current squad, even if they won't surpass them. What is Usman Muhammad going to do at AFCON besides drag us back in overall quality? Sometimes you guys need to use your head!!! Our main stars underperforming is no justification to go and call carpenters into the squad! As bad as the preliminary list was, we had better options! How is Salim Fago making the list ahead of people like Rafiu Durosinmi and Philip Otele? I'm not saying Durosinmi is going to be a game changer but he'll at least be on par with what we have and not a downgrade!!!

This is a poor, poor list! Let's tell ourselves the truth. Eric Chelle allowed NFF to use his head and I will feel no remorse for him after they dump him if this team doesn't perform well. When the chips are down, its the same NFF that forced players on you who will throw you under the bus. They are owing you money, now you're letting them influence your list!

Rubbish national team with rubbish coaches, rubbish admin, rubbish journalists and rubbish fans. Go to AFCON and fail as usual. It's only club football that interests me right now.

Main reason for Okoye's omission

Okoye made it very clear that if he won’t be the starting goalkeeper at the AFCON, he won’t come for the tournament,” the source told SCORENigeria
Okoye is arrogant and rude if this is true...can he do that in colour of Germany, nonsense,if not for Nwabali erratic behavior of recent he is not better talking all round goalkeeping, yes he is number one in Udinese but forgetting that he was there in eagles before Nwabali but lost the number one.....the same eagles made Okoye, got called up based on pure sentiment from Regional league goalkeeper to Super eagles, his eagles appearances made Rotterdam to sign him and from there to what he is today.

The issue is not about getting to semi final but getting your bests for the tournament.

Leave them to be arguing foolishly. Their best players didn't perform well, so they decided the better option is to carry their worst and hope that magic will help them at the AFCON.

Nigerians don't understand the simple concept of maximizing potential. No matter how unimpressive you think your star players are, it doesn't justify you involving plumbers in your squad. If you need fresh legs, look for people who will give you your best chances. We're not saying they are our saviors but they will at least give us the needed balance and confidence.

Can someone here make a decent argument for why Usman was a better call up than Uche?

Can someone seriously tell me that bringing back Uzoho in 2025 is more reasonable than getting Arthur Okonkwo?

If it's true that Okoye declined, why can't NFF and Chelle guarantee him to start since Nwabali isn't fully fit?

I remember people here called me negative when I said that the Super Eagles training boycott in Morocco was a huge misfire. I correctly predicted that we would grind out a win against Gabon but fall to DRC. It's all documented in this thread.

We always complain that we lack squad depth, now you went and occupied reserve slots with complete rubbish. If something happens to Nwabali and Uzoho has to continue as number 1 for the rest of the competition, na that time people eye go open. I'm even hearing he may start the opening game to give Nwabali more time to recover himself.

Hello house Season's Greetings!

Its been a minute. The disappointment of our failure to qualify for the WC was too overwhelming hence my prolonged absence. I only came out of my enforced seclusion to comment briefly on the AFCON squad and disappear again. Might come back depending on how well we do in Morocco.

Now to the squad. Overall I think it's a good squad outside of a few 'strange' selections.

Goalkeeping department for me is the biggest surprise with the exclusion of Okoye and recall of Uzoho. So we're an injury (highly likely) away from Francis being our Number 1 throughout the tournament? Issokay undecided

Satisfied with defense call ups nothing to query. The quality of Aina & Benjamin will be missed while the experience of Ekong can't be replaced however most of the chosen defenders were there last year when we got to the final so I think they should be able to cope. Looking forward to seeing the highly rated Blackburn fullback Ryan.

For the midfield it's a pity that one scandalous selection is threatening to overshadow the positive general outlook of the midfield. Shame to everyone who signed off on the choice of Mohammed Usman. To the positives I like the profile of the new additions. Fisayo, Ebenezer and Nnadi are solid selections who will improve the team. Only omission one might query is Chrisantus but hasn't featured much for Palace save yesterday's game. In addition, he hasn't exactly wowed me the few times I've viewed him in the SE that said his exclusion for the sake of Usman is a disgrace.

Attack is ok not too many complaints. I don't rate Onuachu but based on current club form he's full value for his place in the squad. Salim Fago is another addition I seriously question what the criteria was used in calling him up. Don't expect him to feature much. Dessers is a bit fortunate to be included based on his last performance in the GWG. Tolu's lack of game time cost him. To be honest most of our striking options have been poor or below par. Awoniyi, Moffi, KC, Sadiq have all been underwhelming this season so far so can't fault their exclusion in all honesty.

Personally, I think this squad is capable of winning the AFCON however do we the determination, unity, and tactical ability to pull it off?

We will soon find out.

LET'S GO SUPER EAGLES!

The players let everyone down so no surprises. When you struggle against Gabon and fail to win drc (meanwhile these are like mid African teams) you can’t blame people for their stance o

Lol super eagles still dey give some of una sleepless nights?

My feelings for them died the day they were clobbered by the DRC. Lol I didn't even know there will be an AFCON this month.

I pray they get kicked out in the group stage, to save Osimhen the unnecessary stress.

I'm glad Maduka isn't going to the AFCON. I never wanted him to go after being away for weeks for a ban. He needs to be with his club and help them survive.

If I had my way, I would use home based players for this AFCON. Yea, that's how inconsequential this year's AFCON is to me.

The trophy belongs to either Senegal, Morocco or CIV. DRC and SA can try their kicks too.
