The discourse here is becoming trite and inane. Why are we excusing the fact that there were better options to pick from in the preliminary list than people like Usman Muhammad for instance? Yes, even our best players can be rubbish and useless at times, but is that reasonable cause for us to go and call plumbers from only God knows where? How do you guys even reason things in this country?

Okay fine, our best players flopped at the qualifiers and we need fresh legs. Are you going to foolishly tell me that Usman Muhammad is a better option than Chrisantus Uche or even Peter Agba? We know that these guys have the capacity to at least match up with the current squad, even if they won't surpass them. What is Usman Muhammad going to do at AFCON besides drag us back in overall quality? Sometimes you guys need to use your head!!! Our main stars underperforming is no justification to go and call carpenters into the squad! As bad as the preliminary list was, we had better options! How is Salim Fago making the list ahead of people like Rafiu Durosinmi and Philip Otele? I'm not saying Durosinmi is going to be a game changer but he'll at least be on par with what we have and not a downgrade!!!

This is a poor, poor list! Let's tell ourselves the truth. Eric Chelle allowed NFF to use his head and I will feel no remorse for him after they dump him if this team doesn't perform well. When the chips are down, its the same NFF that forced players on you who will throw you under the bus. They are owing you money, now you're letting them influence your list!

Rubbish national team with rubbish coaches, rubbish admin, rubbish journalists and rubbish fans. Go to AFCON and fail as usual. It's only club football that interests me right now.
It seems you forgot that Eric chelle has no say when slot players are included it seems you want him to bite the hand that pays him.

We the masses can’t complain what do you expect a common employee Eric chelle to do ?

It’s obvious few players aren’t his choice but you choose to blame him anyways

Is fago abi wetin be em name better than Otele who is doing very well for Swiss giants Basel? This would have been a perfect opportunity for Chelle to start the rebuilding of the team by introducing young and talented players to the team

I’ve seen so many so called best or better players that when invited they just end disappointing us all. So much was said about Arokodare, even Dessers, Uche amongst others but at the end nothing extraordinary. As far as our core team players are in any other thing na just after thought. Most times it’s even players we don’t expect much from that performs like Fredericks and Onyeka.

Even with federal character, Alhassan and Sanu Suleiman would have been better. Someone from Israeli 2nd tier? That is really low.

Last AFCON squad was better than this current squad.
Many of our players were in top form compared to their form currently.

In my opinion, selecting Usman for the 28-man team is an excellent gamble.

As noted previously, we currently lack a dedicated Creative Attacking Midfielder (CAM). Usman possesses the potential to deliver a major surprise, much like Sunday Mba did in the 2013 tournament! This is the African Cup of Nations, not the World Cup.

On Fago
When I watched this young man at the Under-20 level, his technique was simply amazing. His first touch, pace, and ability to use both the left and right foot suggest he has it all. He is a center-forward who can effectively play across the entire forward line. For a 28-man roster, I would definitely back him.

We already have several players in the team with similar profiles to the likes of Alhassan, Otele, and Tolu.

Consider where players from teams like Comoros or Tanzania are currently playing. Being signed to a top European club does not automatically make one the best, just as playing for a lesser-known club does not make a player poor. If a player possesses the required qualities, I would bet on them, same way Stephen Keshi bravely backed Mba and Obaboana years ago.

Again, adding or removing Tolu, Otele, or Alhassan will neither significantly improve our chances nor prevent us from winning AFCON. Let's prioritize unique skill sets and potential impact.

Please is a very good list. It's even and expanded list some players will not play any game through out the tournament.

🚨 𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚: Bournemouth have identified FC Basel winger Philip Otele as a potential replacement for Antoine Semenyo.

The 26-year-old FC Basel prolific dynamic -forward have a combined ability of a winger and a striker.

Lol, funny enough it's not about who should be in the squad. See I lost every iota of hope in the team after the loss to DRC. The display didn't inspire confidence at all. Like we could not even string 3 passes together. Our players were jittery all through.

Ever since then, I lost every atom of faith in the team. Like this, I might just casually be watching AFCON. I will deliberately watch Nigeria matches afterwards

Nah I disagree. It won't happen. So he should leave his first choice position in the Serie A and sit on the bench throughout AFCON. Maduka is good enough to be exchanging gametime with Nwabali. Someone that can even make Germany's squad list at this point. So asking for gametime is not out of place.

Chelle is a shtty coach anyways so he won't be there for long. The kind of coach that will substitute a player in and substitute them out.
Maduka Okoye wouldn’t try this if the Super Eagles were going to the World Cup. He knows a stunt like this could earn him being frozen out of the squad by the coach. AFCON is the only major outing on the horizon, so he gambled.

But his judgement worries me. Nwabali’s injury issue has been public for days. Everybody knows Nwabali has been racing against time to be fit. Maduka had a real shot at starting, maybe even taking the number 1 spot with solid performances.
He has thrown that chance away. And chances like that don’t always come back.

He should face his club football. He has shown he's selfish, has a weak mentality and where his priority lies. Me, I want Maduka axed from the team forever.

NFF is killing football slowly and everybody just dey siddon look. Lol. No one is angry enough. Not the fans. Not the journalists. Not even the federal government. Colin Udoh equally observed this in a podcast. We keep talking but majority have moved on from the World Cup qualifying failure. Afterall football is not important to us in this country.

Person wey we for give am time, learn the squad, build an identity and plan contingencies. In spite of everything he has done, dem wan use politics pursue am comot.

The way things are going, we'll be rubbing shoulders with Sierra Leone and Gambia in the coming years. It's only a matter of time.
