Mr Peter Obi, you are speaking to the wrong person. Didn't you hear when he told you then that "na statistics we go chop" Go and play propaganda games with them, that's where they don't like you to beat them. Also, here is free advice, start being sarcastic with them. Next time, tell him Let’s go a-borrowing, now let’s see a-governing catch up.

Dear Nairaland, pls do more in control hateful comments, otherwise we would help shut this channel down. Your bot or admin should be wise enough taking down many of hate speeches on this platform. It's becoming too extreme seeing many participants turning this beautiful page into terrorists platform. We can make our comments without insulting or laying curses on others just because they didn't agreed with our views. We're continue to see the negative fruits of hate speeches all over the world, there are so many instances. Imagine so much of abuse and insults against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on your page from the followers of the loser of 2023 elections., as if there wouldn't be another in the nearest future. Pls do something before too late ! |

"For years, I have consistently maintained that Nigeria cannot borrow its way into prosperity. Nations do not develop by consuming more than they produce. They develop by producing, exporting, and creating value, while building strong institutions that ensure accountability and efficient use of public funds". H.E. Peter Obi. |

I really wish we had the kind of top businessmen and industrialist speak up and posit their views on our public finances and the true way forward for our economy the way Elon did in the US in reaction to Trump's BBB. And the way you hear industry leaders in the UK and other European countries engage the media and the citizens on alternative ways the economy cam be handled be cause they do know a lot. The reason is simple. Alternative ideas shared by politicians alone are often seen as posturing but when those who are affected speak up and push for better ways then the nation takes note. There used to be a time when the likes of Christopher Kolade and Ernest Shonekan openly aired their views on things economic policy, wrote articles in the media on the state of Nigeria's economy. But today there is palpable silence. Everyone appears to be scared about putting out their views even when they are badly affected by the way government is run, by the sheer amount of resources that are wasted in administering this country. It should not be up to the political class alone to do the dirty work of challenging the misdeeds of government. |

Does your statement change the fact that these debts are injuring the country. Tinubu claimed that Nigerian were living a fake life, but lemme tell - these borrowings are the real fakest life. We are gonna learn the hard way. Chucks13: |

Kooyepeju01:It is too late, Obidients have turned this place into a mess and thankfully there are a few standing up to them and their abusive nature. The block button and moderator bot were brought in to reduce the visibility of Obidients bad behaviour but that is not a solution. I guess Peter Obi would continue to generate traffic here as even though he can speak about anything, Obidients with their multiple monikers would attack anyone that dares question him. Thank God he didn't win the last elections, can you imagine the state apparatus in the hands of him and his followers? |

Atleast you have agreed that taking loans for consumption wrecks the country. Obi is a private citizen like me and you, any of us could have complained to Buhar. Moreover, he is not the one collecting the loans Chucks13: |

Reference:Contrary to your opinion in the second to the LAST paragraph, there ISN'T "palpable silence" from the likes of the great late Christopher Kolade and Ernest Shonekan that you referenced. I'm fully aware as a Diasporan and investor in Nigeria that several powerful members of the different Chambers of Commerce (Lagos Chamber of Commerce), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), NASME, etc, located over there in Nigeria have been practically offering strategic advice and solutions before and especially from 2023 till date with a lot of policies implemented. However, I agree with a large part of your post but WANTED to let you and others know that there is "NO palpable silence" from the business and investment community and the private sector perspectives are being aired openly and utilized as well based off of my monitoring of Nigerian business and investment news. The Nigerian President 'Bola Tinubu also has a Presidential Council on the economy consisting of MOST of the very prominent business moguls and industrialists such as Aliko Dangote, 'Femi Otedola, Abdulsamad Isiaku-Rabiu, etc, who meet with him and offer sustainable robust solutions. Every well-informed business professional around the world knows full well that borrowing long-term offshore funds for long-term use isn't bad as long as the funds are judiciously used and monitored by the creditors. The renowned American economist, Prof. Jeffrey Sachs in his speeches to members of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, the World Economic Forum (WEF), and at other sustainable economic fora has ALWAYS emphasized in his video interviews I've watched that in times of restructuring and economic downturns, you have to borrow for the long-term at low single-digit interest rates over a 30 year period while engaging in massive infrastructural development just like China did to become a powerhouse within 30 years! The so-called members of the political class and politicians you referenced such as Peter offering his advice here practically do so superficially in order to seem active to their followers and to denigrate those in government on the pages of newspapers and via their personal social media handles instead of offering functional solutions. Period. |

He is borrowing is to appoint and pay some jobless politicians who are not in support of his government or who he feels might help him secure his 2nd term. |
