But atleast the reputation built by first bank over the years means this FBNQuest is unlikely to fold up.
When it comes to fund management, it doesn't follow. The reputation of fund managers is tied to the SEC verdict, not affiliation with any bank. That reputation thing is just our thinking and opinions, not what is really obtainable.
Re: Mutual Funds by suckprick: 12:13pm On Dec 13, 2025
emmasoft:
On Point 1: Nature of Mutual Funds

Mutual funds are primarily defined by the nature of the fund, not by the fund manager. Broadly, they are categorized as:

Low risk – e.g., Money Market Funds (MMF)

Medium risk – e.g., Bond Funds

High risk – e.g., Equity Funds

Irrespective of the fund manager, the safest category—by definition—is the Money Market Fund. Whether the fund manager is old or newly established, an MMF remains low risk and focused on capital preservation.

For example, an equity fund does not become less risky because it is managed by Stanbic, nor does it become more risky because it is managed by Norrenberger or a firm that started less than a year ago. Risk is determined by the asset class, not the brand name of the fund manager.

On Point 2: SEC-Mandated Checks and Balances

For every fund type, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) mandates a strict structure of checks and balances. These include the following parties:

- Registered Fund Manager
The fund manager must be registered not only with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) but also licensed by the SEC. SEC registration is the key requirement here.

- Custodian Bank
This is an independent bank that is completely unrelated to the fund manager. A fund manager that belongs to a banking group cannot use its affiliate bank as custodian.
Examples:

Stanbic Asset Management → Custodian: UBA

Norrenberger → Custodian: UBA

FBNQuest → Custodian: Citibank

United Capital (UCAP) → Custodian: Stanbic Bank

Therefore, assuming you are dealing with a bank simply because the asset manager belongs to the same group is a misconception. The bank and the asset manager are separate entities with no operational overlap in this regard.

- Trustees
Trustees act as co-signatories to the fund accounts. This is why collection accounts of fund managers typically carry two names.
No funds move in or out without the knowledge and authorization of the trustees. They also ensure that the fund’s mandate is strictly followed. For example, they ensure that investors’ funds in an MMF are invested only in approved instruments such as Treasury Bills and commercial papers, and not diverted into equities or other high-risk instruments, regardless of attractive rates.

- SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission)
In the capital market, the SEC is the apex regulator. It oversees and regulates all activities of fund and asset managers.
Simply put, the SEC is to fund/asset managers what the CBN is to commercial banks and other deposit money banks.

Finally,

Any fund that operates with all the structures above in place is safe to invest in, even for very large sums, and investors can be confident and at rest.

Anything outside this framework—regardless of the name, promised returns, or how long it has existed—should be treated with caution, as it is likely a Ponzi scheme.

Also, the fact that I share registration links does not make me your fund manager, nor does it mean you are investing with me. By reason of knowledge and experience, I am simply a representative and ambassador of some of these firms.

Please be well guided.

Kindly click the second link in my signature to register with Norrenberger and support my ministry, or feel free to reach out to me for more information on mutual funds or stocks.

Happy investing!
Thank you

No MMF allows monthly withdrawal, even Stanbic. When it comes to paying out of interest, it is quarterly for all, including Stanbic.

Now, understand this: what Stanbic does is that they reinvest your accrued interest monthly if you pick interest reinvestment. You can now decide to withdraw your interest anytime you wish. Otherwise, if you select interest payout, it's quarterly, you get your accrued interest paid to your account automatically. So, if you wish to withdraw your interest monthly, then select reinvestment of interest, as this is how all of them operate. The only difference is that others only reinvest interest quarterly, but all pay interest automatically every quarter.

If it's Stanbic or any other firm, send an email to customer care stating that, going forward, you want your interest to be reinvested back into your MMF and not to be paid out to your bank account. After you send the mail, follow with a call immediately to ask them if they saw the mail and tell them your intention. They will act on it. The same thing you do if it's otherwise.

From experience, if it's Stanbic, such things are better done in the morning. Then, shortly before the last week of the quarter, call again to confirm if they have done it.

The next interest payment for all MMFs is the 1st week in January, ie, for the accrued interest of Oct. to Dec. 31st 2025. Normally, interest will hit your account latest 7th of the next quarter, but reinvestment is the last day of the quarter, in this case, 31st of Dec. 2025

Creditalerts:

Anytime from 31st December to 7th January 2026. This is the same for all the MMFs.

Irrespective of the time you start, accrued interest is prorated and paid at the end of each quarter.

For all MMFs, pay out of interest is anytime on or before the 7th of the next quarter, irrespective of the time you start. For example, if an investor starts on the 30th of December and opts for interest payout, the investor gets interest for 30 and 31st December paid to his/her account at the end of the quarter.
So payout of all MMF is:

latest 7th Jan, 7th April, 7th July, 7th October of every year, irrespective of the time you started your investment.

Please note it could be much earlier or a little later than the 7th, depending on the fund manager or the circumstances surrounding them at that time.

With excellent operational efficiency, customers might even over-look 1%-2% difference.

When i see Stanbic slacking I just shake my head. Imagine them delaying a transaction for days cuz the person forget to put narration. Even after you send them evidence of payment showing transactions details in a follow-up mail immediately after payment.

It is like they have new generation of status quo workers, that don’t want to go even an extra mile, for any reason.

This is from experience, I use both Stanbic & FBNQ. I maintain a specific ratio between them. I didn’t know that for some reasons during that period, the bank i was using wasn’t sending customer narration.

24 hours later, FBNQ credited. After 3 days I was still speaking english with Stanbic. They were even the ones day that informed of the no narration problem. It was just very unnecessary, given the fact that i always message the customer service of both companies; immediately after payment, with screenshots, my Investment ID and evidence of payment. Imagine my disdain, reading from Stanbic customer service executive that the delay was because the initial transfer from an account also bearing my name oo had no narration angry like i also sent you a follow-up mail with evidence of payment why tf are telling me this undecided

I would never have imagined a few years back, that FBNQ would over take Stanbic in terms of operational efficiency. FBNQ wey before they open my Money Market account, I know wetin my eye see lol. The mail trail long.

With Stanbic’s abysmal rates nowadays, my funds movement is sure. I just never get their time.
Hello,

Please how do you top up on FBNQ?

Had a bad experience with them one time when it took about 3 days to acknowledge and book my payment.

Looking forward to your kind response

Generally, all MMFs accrued interest daily, ie, interest is earned daily whether you monitor or not, but most of the fund managers, like Norrenberger, have a web portal or app to monitor your investment progress.

As already explained in my earlier post, you can decide to withdraw your interest monthly only if you opt for interest reinvestment, so that by the time your interest is reinvested, you can redeem or withdraw the amount from your balance, but if you opt for interest payout, the accrued interest is paid to your bank account automatically at the end of the quarter.

Professionally, it may not be advised to withdraw your interest every month; the automatic quarterly withdrawal still looks better. Rather, you can open more than one MMF with different fund managers and use them for different purposes. Read my earlier post sometime this year or so - how investors put MMF to use for more clarity on this, or reach out to me.

Meanwhile, you guys should use my links o o. to help my ministry! grin

If you do it appropriately you shouldn't encounter issues. It will be done same day.

First is to transfer the money to that their citi bank MMF collection account.

secondly, make sure that while doing the transfer you will indicate your MMF account number and name only on the remark/reason for payment column/space.

Thirdly, make sure it's done early, no matter what before 12:00 PM. Also, don't do it on weekends and public holidays.

With the above, you will be fine.

Don't use that method to fund. Once you complete the form and submit, wait they will send you the collection account. You don't need to use third party payment system to avoid high charges.
Their collection account is a UBA account, you make a transfer to it and you will be fine.

Unrealized interest means interest already earned but has not been paid to you. I believe you opt for interest payout hence by end of the quarter you will be credited all earned interest from Oct 1 to Dec 31st. Otherwise those earned interest suppose to be reinvested at tbe end of each month if you had opted for interest reinvestment.

There is no changes when depositing dollar cash into their collection account.

By SEC rule, you are only paid by transfer into your dom account, No withdrawal of cash at the bank and no charges from Norrenberger for transfer.
