My brother sorry about that oo I am also in same situation

I haven't been myself since yesterday that I read this. I'm a prospective graduate student planning to resume for fall 2026. I have spent money and put in alot of efforts, now all my dream of studying in the US has faded away.

I applied to more than 10 US schools and my recommenders submitted over 40 recommendations. All these efforts just in vain.

I have been depressed since yesterday.[/quote]

Don't be, this only affects visa issuance for trav l INTO the US.
You have just started the admission process so this doesn't affect you

Depression means it's a consistent medical condition over long period of time

You are not depressed, you are sad.

Travel bans are reconsidered every 180 days at the most. That's June 2026 by then you can expect changes to this ban.

Thank you sir 🙏
But this 180 days is too much oo,fingers crossed Sha

I suggest you take a step back and focus on the things that you can control. Stressing out about things that you can't control will not move the needle even one bit. No university is going to stop reviewing applications for students from certain countries because that country is on a "banned" or "restricted" list. Their international office can share the information from the WH with students from these countries so that they are aware but they won't stop reviewing any application because of it. It might even be illegal to do so because they are not supposed to take any action (adverse or favorable) based solely on race, gender, "national origin", religion, etc.

It is even possible/likely that these restrictions may be eased in a few months. The U.S. embassy and consulate in Nigeria generates a lot of money for the US government, especially with B1/B2, F1, and J visas. In the meantime, you can look at universities in other countries like it seems you are doing. Good luck!
Thanks so much for this.
I'm on my Erasmus Mundus applications already.

Can you stop misinforming people. The Proclamation is very clear - as from jan 1 2026, no student visa or visitor visa will be issued to Nigerians all over the world. Face the reality and stop giving people false hope.

You are proudly ignorant. I have read some of your posts saying the proclamation will be debated by 'White House'. Who exactly is White house?
Loll, I was laughing reading the comments lol. Advicing people to go to the embassy , Oya naw she na she dey stamp VISA🤣🤣

I'm looking for college counselling for USA. What advisors/counselling agencies are good quality? My goal is creating a list of colleges for me to apply based on my situation.

What i think about it is that, it is still a proposal. Read my last messages very well. Whenever it is posted on the official U.S. embassy websites, then it turns to official announcement. Or do you book appointment on the white house website ? Do you pay visa fee on the white house website 😊 As it stands, every visa application procedures changed not.

Even. After official ratification or certification, visa application process will continue for those going for necessary activities ie Study. Medical, Business. Etc. I am also prophesying that total ban on Nigeria is 100% impossible.
If you’re one of the folks who are waiting for Private Message from the Consulate or on US embassy website, Unfortunately, You will wait for donkey years ooo 🤣🤣.

This is a decision as expected from Section 212(f) from the Consulate in Tokyo.

POV: It’s not even January 2026!!! And the Effect is Stressed Out already..

If you have an Appointment as from 01/01/2026, don’t spoil your profile applying, focus on Europe, Asia and Erasmus. That’s your Best Bet.

Regards..

Pls stop quoting my messages. Go and advertise your Europe and Erasmus to your clients. I am in the position to lecture you about U.S. visa applications and policies.

At the end, you will lure inexperienced fresh graduates to Europe and Asia where they will eventually be stranded.

Pls keep all your wisdom and advertisements to yourself . None can even attract my attention.
Erasmus getting stranded ? Lmaoo😂😂😂 . The most hilarious thing I’d hear on the internet today.. from the “all wise one”. Lol.

It’s only one who is not too smart that’ll put all his/her eggs in one basket at this crucial time. This is the best time for any prospective to start thinking of alternatives.

1. Canada is a good alternative
2. Europe is a good alternative
3. Asia is a good alternative
4. New Zealand and Australia are also good alternatives.

Cheers!

Good Afternoon.
Just a quick advice, for those who applied to school (I mean those who has already completed their application and are awaiting for a decision before the visa ban saga), send an email to the international office of the school you are going to and explain the process to them. In this message, write that you are aware of the visa ban in your country and will want to know what the next step you are to take as you have already completed your application and submitted it. Also ask, if it is possible to defer it to SPRING 2027. DO THIS BEFORE THEY SEND YOU A MESSAGE WITHDRWALING YOUR APPLICATION.

2. Send a mail to your program graduate coordinator asking for the next step to take or if it is possible to defer to SPRING 2027. Also do this before they send you a message.

3. If a supervisor accepted you into a laboratory, explain to him the situation. Most supervisors who are expecting international students from banned countries are now summiting a petition to the graduate school to allow that applicant to be admitted, and differ for spring 2027 and if the ban is lifted before June, then glory be to God.

I just thank God 🙏 for how he has lead me so far and for my graduate coordinator. This is the best thing to do right now.

If you have not yet applied for some schools or completed your application, pause it for now, till the ban is lifted. Work more on developing yourself, gain publications, more experience and make your CV more strong because the competition for SPRING 2027 and FALL 2027 will be record breaking.

I wish everyone the best and while this is very depressing, attach yourself to people who can encourage you.

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Janet04: 10:16am On Dec 21, 2025
Please attend your interview and don't allow these negative news cause you to take rash decisions. The truth is that some people will still be approved on December 31. You can choose to be among them.

The restriction is from January 2 by implication, since the Embassy wouldn't function on New Year day. And if your visa is approved in 2025, you should gain entrance from the Port of Entry.

If your dates are before 2026, you still have a chance. You just need to be extra-prepared this time, so there's no need for AP.

I wish you the best in whatever decision you choose.

Pls follow the opinion of @Janet04.

President Trump is only looking for negotiation with the Nigerian government. They are even working in partnership with our Armed Forces in order to battle the terrorists. Mind you, the United States of America herself cannot do without Nigeria.

Hence, the proclamation will not live long.
Thanks so much y’all

I am grateful for your contributions.

Good day people. Please, I want to know my chances of traveling to the US by next year for a conference. My manuscript has been accepted for presentation in a conference in US. Does this travel restriction affect traveling for conference too? Thank you. The conference is coming up by next May 2026.

Do you have a Visa already??
If you don't have one then the ban also affects you.

Your Erasmus is a very tough and competitive Graduate Admission with 15% success from Nigerian applicants because more qualified applicants are applying from other countries. Besides, Erasmus is a joint certificate degree (EMJMD) which is not very good in comparison to a degree from an autonomous University.

1. Europe. You are not the one to tell people about this. Many of the European Universities have language barriers, credential evaluation and authentications issues, long time visa processing periods (1 year waiting time) ie Germany, Holland, etc, and block account issues. Aside of these, the visa rate is very very low.

2. Canada. There is little difference btween the U.S and Canada admission process. Canada is even more tougher in terms of admissions and visa process and most schools requires tuition deposit . Lastly on this, Canada has frustrated more parents and visa applicants (who have paid millions in tuition deposit, but yet did not get the visa) more than the United States.

3. I dont know any school in Asia that you want to compare with U.S, UK or Canada. Otherwise, Chinese and Korean students would not be trooping to America.

4. Newzealand. This is the worst in terms of admission and visa. Newzealand have just 8 major Universities and you must pay all tuition in full before your visa can be granted. Besides, almost all of these 8 Universities and other higher institutions has a foreign travel agents you must work with and they charge between N500,000 NGN to N2. Million.

5. Australia. This is just like Newzealand. They have agents like BCIE and others which you must apply through and most of the school also require full or half payment. However, all these does not guarantee visas in any of the aforementioned countries.

Also, none of the above countries has the admission and visa process flexibilities , Lower processing cost, full fundings , jobs and career opportunities like the United States of America. So, i will say, U.S.A. is the best.

Mind you, you can advertise Erasmus and Europe , Australia and Newzealand in the right sections. You cannot convince or confuse the American bounds because they are too determined and patient to go for the best.

If you are in the US it is not advisable to do what we used to do by going to a nearby country for stamping right now.

Joshpet5674:
Is there anyone who has gone for H1B stamping recently or have a visa appointment between now and 31st of December?
