All the ports in south and south are dead but guys keep active the once in the west with federal might. If you do then then your greed is obvious. No need for federation. Major port in apapa. Refiney there as well. Now this.
It's a lie

Port enables export not just from import. Export os cheaper with competitive prices. We should have as many ports as we can and prioritize export more than import benefits
Especially considering that Ondo has a large base of Afro exporters Walahi this is a game changer to be honest.

Lagos port will be decongested and no need for all these talk about dredging some ports further down south

Bakkassi deep sea port is also very important

Edo is landlocked.
No, Edo State is not landlocked; it has a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean (part of the Niger Delta/Gulf of Guinea), bordering Delta State to the south and southeast, and it also has significant river boundaries like the Niger River. Don't be ignorant

All the rubbish port is for thr one nigeria. They are hoping for igbos to continue to service it for thr region. How many things are thr people importing when they have not finished government work to steal
We are only interested in ports in the SS working as we have alot in common with SS.They can have thr own country we don't mind. The SE and SS can be doing business as two different country

Ports, Ports, Ports.

It is good to build Ports if it is absolutely needed.

However, I don't believe a modern new port will completely transform the economy of an area like Apapa Ports did for Lagos.

Lekki Ports is a good example. Despite handling hundreds of billions of imports and exports, you won't even know there is a port there when you drive past it.

The largest port in the UK is in a town many people in the UK have never heard about. The 2nd largest port is in very small town of about 25,000 people most people have never heard of.

Same with the largest port in France.

Modern Ports operate like a transit point. Goods arrive, your truck comes, picks it up, and head straight out of the port, so no endless waiting in or around Lagos, no hotel accommodation needed etc The is even no need for hundreds (or thousands in the case of Apapa) of warehouses as truck move in and out of modern Ports so quickly, they are able to leave the port town within 2 hours and head for their destination without stopping in the port town for anything.

So the economic impact of a modern port on the area it is located is minimal.

This is not an argument for not building Ports. They should be built only where they are needed.

I just think people have an exaggerated expectation of the transformational impact of a modern port.
Beautiful nonsense.

i'd implore you to double check your facts boss.

No part of Edo's boundary touches the Atlantic!
that's a geographical fact.

If you want to rationalize it by arguing it has significant river boundaries like R. Niger, then by that logic; Niger State is not landlocked.

kindly educate me if i am wrong.

It isn't Nigeria's money.

The port will be funded by a mixture of government and investor's money. The port will return the initial investment with profit back to the government and the investors.

Nobody will invest in a scheme to build houses for poor people who cannot even pay the rent or maintain the properties properly.

You Nigerians (99%) just criticise without checking the facts.

Every Port in Nigeria apart from Onithsa port is viable not only to the port authorities but also to the host communities.

Note that all coastal ports in Nigeria handle both imports and exports .

Onitsha port is a dead and unssutainble project because it only handles imports as there is nothing SE can export to the world.

Any shipping company will rather use a port that they can both offload and onload. This isn't possible with Onitsha.

Also note that nvigating the low waters upstream to Onitsha can only be carried out by flat and low haul vessels which thus makes importing goods through Onitsha extremely expensive as there lo haul vessels have a much lower tonneage capacity that will see them lift only a limited amount of cargo all the way from China and then navigate upstream into a port like onithsa that they are sure they will be returning back empty.

Onitsha port is the worst investment ever conceived by the FG.

And we all have Ekweme as VP and head of the Shagari economic team to blame for such rubbish.

Ekweme also got Shagari to liberalise importation at the detriment of our local industry . Ekweme is the father of ''my container go soon land'' people who not only destroyed local industries but saw to an import based economy that has drained our FX reserves, loss of jobs, and a pressure on the currency to sustain an unsuitable import based economy.

Edo wasn't supposed to be landlocked if the map was well drawn during state creation. Why should Ondo and Delta State locked out Edo access to the Sea. The thing is irritating honestly.
