Because the financial power dynamic still rests generally with men. As it gradually changes, all that will change too.
Dont forget that men hold/ held that power on account of sheer brawn in the past. Namely that physical strength was required to make money/ gather resources for much of history. However things have changed - now its intellectual strength which evens the battlefield, but because of where history has brought us, it will still take time to even the battlefield completely.

There will still be areas of inequality though - the mere fact that we do not menstruate or suffer menopause creates a biological difference to be sure.

You are deceiving yourself. How many times have seen men complain they still pay everything though the woman makes equal or more money.
Simple: once sex is involved the man is the one who almost always pays
