APC has added no value to this country since 2015. They've not achieved anything.

Living in Nigeria is like living in hell. Even the rich are living like a one eyed man amongst the blinds. Osogbo that used to hv very stable electricity during the PDP eras now rationing 2hrs a day light. Wetin APC wan use campaign in 2027 sef. I was in ABA last month, stayed for 3 weeks before returning back and I can tell you that that city has left Nigeria behind as far as electricity is concerned. The light did not blink all throughout my stay there, they are on band A and it was constant light. I'm thinking about moving some of my business down to Aba, all these wahala with Eko Disco don tire person.

Good day Nairalanders,

What is the light situation in your area, just as the heading suggests.

In my office 🏬 Lekki phase1, light has been very bad, since last month, despite the fact that we are on Band A, we have been solely relying on generator from morning till night.

In my house at around Obalende, infact that one os worst, sometimes, I stay in the office late, so that once I enter house, just take my bath and sleep straight..

The most painful part is that, my inlaw who is from Oyo state are complaing bitterly that light might not even come for 2-3 month and when it does, it won't last more than 4hours and its gone..

We have a minister who is from Oyo state and can't even manage just a ministry and want to govern a whole state.

The light is really giving me a concern, mostly this festive period that alot of expenses is there, you will still be thinking of powering generator with high rate of fuel to welcome visitors..
Here in Farm Road 2, Eliozu Port Harcourt. Electricity has been unstable since the beginning of November. But it has become worse since last week. We receive electricity for like 2 hours, if it comes. This is different from the one minute on and off as though there is a child playing with the switch. Is this forestate of what to expect in 2026?

Let's see

20% of people are paying cost reflective tarrifs in theory

60% of people are bypassing their meters

80% of people pay subsidized power tarrifs

40% of people don't pay for the power they use

We need 15 trillion annually for the next ten years to fix power properly. Profits on power amount to 1 trillion. At best.

And anytime you point out reality, people will shout poverty. Well poor people cannot pay for good things.

Since GEJ handed over electricity power to the private sector, I've stopped blaming government. People steal power, refuse to pay , chase nepa workers who come to disconnect them for not paying, bypass meter, and ya expect 32000 mw? With which money.? Maybe tinubu will print money as he promised! cheesy

Oya, come call me tinubu supporter. Or maybe gej supporter since he was the one that showed me the light cheesy
Re: What Is The Electricity Situation In Your Area? by jay0: 10:01pm On Dec 19, 2025
At the beginning of the month, my meter read 100units. Today is 2weeks later, it's on 98.02units. Do the maths, that's my electricity situation.

I just had to make that clear not to dispute your post. The man responsible for the ministry of power have being very very poor. So poor it'll be bad if he should take over the affairs of Oyo state too. It would be better to have someone that will follow in the footsteps of Gov. Makinde.
I pray the people of Oyo state can think better to elect somebody who can continue the legacy of Seyi...

Otti is not responsible for the power supply, Prof Nnaji and his company are.

Plus Aba people pay prices for the power at higher rate than other people...that's why the company can afford to give them good light.

Finally, most of Abia has poor power supply.

Well, when PDP was in power, the power supply was bad...and then GEJ privatised power in 2013, which ended government responsibility for improving generation and distribution...just transmission.

The main issue is, power companies cannot charge cost reflective tarrifs for most nigerians. And before privatisation, that was the same problem NEPA had, plus from 1980 onward, every governor was connecting villages and cities to the grid, without thinking about how they will pay for the thing.

I am disagreeing with you not because I support tinubu, I effing don;t, but because our power supply problems have more to do with nigerians not paying cost reflective tarrifs for decades. And this has become more important since privatization

Also, many of you act as if there has been no privatization, as if government is still doing NEPA. They ain't.

In Ivory coast, they don't have blackouts...since 1990, not because they have better government (the instability in Ivory coast since 1990 is worse than the benign peace of Houphouet -Boigny before he died.)...but because they decided to implement cost reflective tarrifs. This allowed investment into the sector to flow in, heck the World Bank even gave them a loan self...and there have been no blackouts for decades. Only folk who were born before 1985 recall blackouts. Again Ivory coast has AND still has corruption, tribalism(even xenophobia!), a civil war, and a millitary and civillian coup, and another sit tight leader called Ouattara...yet power is stable there compared to nigeria, because cost reflective tarrifs.

Whereas we in nigeria will blame every leader, blame corruption, blame this , blame that...but then bypass our meter, or underpay for power used, and then expect power to come on for 24 hours a day, seven days a week...on what money? Imaginary money? And of course no investment. Even the discos...three of them were handed over to the banks, and they are cutting jobs to survive because people don';t want to pay cost reflective tarrifs.

You all want free electricity, yet you don;t want to accept it costs money.

Tinubu is a bad president, like his predecessors, but on power, make we face some home truths, even tinubu is dodging paying for light by switching to solar. That;s a loss in revenue.

The geometric plant was long in the making before Otti took over.(Initial planning kicked off in 2006). Has more to do with the rules allowing for the creation of IPP's (a similar company exists in Jos and predates even the discos and gencos by 2 decades). The governor had nothing to do with it.
Re: What Is The Electricity Situation In Your Area? by MrJavaS: 10:17pm On Dec 19, 2025
Here in Mararaba, Nasarawa state, the electricity is very poor to the extent that we go for up to 48 hours with no electricity and once they restore it it doesn't last longer than 2 hours. Honestly it's far worse than it used to be. I've given up on this country ever having a steady power supply. Solar inverters that'll power everything is expensive though.
Re: What Is The Electricity Situation In Your Area? by nairalanda1(m): 10:18pm On Dec 19, 2025
Hoi, hoi, electricity in my area

I am on band B. IN three weeks, we have gone down to 6-8 hours of supply, sometimes going a whole day without power. Nights , zero power .

Here is the thing. Nigeria cannot have good enough power for all until we reach 32000MW in generation, which would only be enough for those on the grid...now

For all of Nigeria, we need at least 88000 Mw.

Also, Lagos needs at least 10000 mw to give the city uninterrupted light.

Extremely poor!!!

I live on the Arapaja axis of Ibadan, Oluyole Local Government, and the power supply here is far worse than anyone should reasonably endure. Over 60% of residents in this neighbourhood now rely on solar or inverter systems. In my own case, I had to upgrade my inverter capacity in November just to power more appliances and get longer hours of electricity.

I visited the Agbowo area today, where residents lamented that electricity used to be very reliable, something I can personally attest to. However, since around June this year, supply has deteriorated to the point of embarrassment. While electricity appears stable in a few selected areas in Ibadan, one must ask: why should access to power be selective? I have not even consumed up to fifteen thousand naira (₦15,000) worth of electricity in my fully equipped three-bedroom apartment in the entire year 2025, an indication of just how terrible the power supply has been.

If a state represented by the current Minister of Power can suffer this level of neglect, especially a state he aspires to govern, then it would be deeply misguided for the people of Oyo State to entrust such leadership with the governorship. Although I may have a soft spot for the APC, it is certainly not unconditional. God forbid that Adelabu becomes our governor.
I like how you reason.
