Iwobi x Bassey: Let's go do it again!

Chukwueze: OMG! Do what again? We didnt win it before, so to do what again? (LOSE?)

😂😂

................

Bassey: So you need to cook now eh, Chuks

Chukwueze: Yes na, if only u can pass me the ball, then I can cook...... and cooking will only be complere when we lift that title.

Truidstarr:
I'm Nice!!! Some monicker was complaining yesterday that because Ndidi said they came to have fun at the AFCON, we should forget doing well at the Tournament. The team spirit is good.

Chukwueze was clearly not happy, also sounding warning to Ndidi as well.

The Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) will be held every four years from 2028, Confederation of African Football president Patrice Motsepe has announced.

The tournament has taken place every two years since 1968, with a one-year gap between the 2012 and 2013 editions.

But the tournament will switch to a four-year cycle after the 2027 Afcon in East Africa and a 2028 edition.

Motsepe has instead announced the creation of an African Nations League which will take place annually from 2029.

"We have the most exciting new structure for African football," Motsepe said.

I don't even think there was proper stakeholders engagement.
I could remember when they proposed the idea after the European did theirs.

The above countries dripped and repped wella but the ones below na F9 cos dem no try at all.

South Africa (Track suits) ❌

Egypt (Track suits)❌
Zimbabwe (Trouser & Blazers)❌
Uganda (Track suit) ❌

This is AFCON for crying out loud. It's a blend of football, fashion and culture. You gats show up with all the extravagance.

(I miss G.h a n.a for real. They'll have really represented with that their majestic off-shoulder kente wrapper outfit.)7

Not sure how this will improve the game but if I were CAF I will continue the 2 year cycle for the next 6 years before making any huge changes. Afcon is improving very fast now making it every four years may slow down the development of the game. Unlike Europe we don’t have many massive organisations in Africa to sponsor the game so with no visibility for four years may have its toll on sponsorship and other financial gains. My thoughts

No original thought just reactionary.

Fans on reddit and Quorra loathe their continental nation leagues. Heck even coaches regard them as friendlies.

Slowing down the momentum AFCON has started gaining is ill thought.

Admittedly, the two years gap was kinda close but playing it every three years would have been better than this four years thing

This seems like a deliberate ploy to slow down the growth and visibility of AFCON because it was overshadowing the Euro.

Yup afcon visibility and exposure is insanely on the rise due to top clubs wanna unearth the next gem

So far I’m gonna say it’s

Euro cup
Nations league
Copa America
Afcon

Aside the finals I don’t think copa america is that relevant more than afcon

Well teams have been reluctant to let players go on afcon when league is going on

It’s obvious they have a hand in this in convincing caf to make it 4 years

I see no benefit in making afcon 4 years

Records will be harder to break and most players won’t get more than 2 afcon on their belts

It’s obvious Nigeria will beat the group phase with ease

My fear is round of 16 to quarter finals if a team holds us to pk we're done for 💯

Thank you o. I'd even accept a triennial thing.

4 years time we'd still not be able to play June -July cause of weather concerns and CAF would still have to grovel to UEFA and FIFA

Were it not for the peculiarity of our weather in the middle of the year, we'd have had all parties happy.

Even that 4 years time the weather will still not make a June - July tournament feasible. So what then?

My take on AFCON change. The weather concerns would make it another failed move. This was tried before. The intent seems good though.
The Nations League is a great idea. Maybe modify AFCON so only players based in Africa will represent their respective countries. Then scrap CHAN.

Modified
Why do we need AFCON if we have African Nations League (just to copy UEFA?). We can modify the format of the proposed league, so we don't need AFCON (as we have it now) after all.

AFCON was starting to improve and now CAF is moving to every four years? Definitely caved from pressure from FIFA

Outside of the fact that we’ll have fewer AFCONs, it will now take longer to close the gap on the likes of Egypt, Cameroon and Ghana.

Foolish move all around. It would have been better for them to improve scheduling instead of moving to every 4 years.

I agree na that visibility Dey pain uefa. If CAF fall for this trap na dem sabi.

I agree with the 3 year cycle option. Copa America did it for years before making it every four years

I like it.
1. Finding hosts for the tournament not that easy. This would allow the hosts more time to prepare.
2. Good for the players careers. A lot of African players sometimes lose their places in their teams because of the AFCON.

Well, looking past what have been done and for obvious reasons just to please the Europeans, we have 3 Afcons coming up in the next 3 yrs:

2025 Afcon (starting sunday)
2027 Afcon
2028 Afcon

Nigeria must thrive to win at least one or maybe two.

After 2028, the next one is 2032, then 2036 and so on. After 2028, the chances of winning become way slimmer.

As for the CAF Nations League... well, it would be another major title to battle for. I hope it works out coz I know Nigeria will easily fall into CAF Nations League A or whatever ranking they will use when the full format is revealed.

In the end, we move... I hope the nations league works out. It working out will take some sting out of losing the biennial schedule of the Afcon.
