In the midst of all these brouhaha (immigrations stuff and vilification of Boris wave), we completed on the 27th of November and got the keys to our house. All thanks to the “Rent money is dead money” by LexusGS.

Honestly, it doesn’t scare me a bit as people panic on immigration whatever… I can’t continue paying rent for the next 3 years whilst on skilled worker visa if I have the means to buy. I know if push comes to shove, I can sell in 2 years considering I only took 2 years fixed term anyways, and please don’t tell me it’s easier said than done! I have weighed my pros and cons and I am happy with whatever decision I make as an adult.

Life goes on, don’t delay your plans for the fear of the unknown.

Nuggets from people like Jedisco also informed my decision on stock and shares ISA with InvestEngine. Truthfully, I wish I started early.

I like seeing posts from Zahra because they do contain immigration informations which are legit.
Also, her sound response to questions about things are unmatched here. Though, I still think Zahra and Jedisco should meet for a cuppa 😅😅

Peace ✌🏻
Massive congratulations bro (or sis 😁) 🎉🎊🎉
May you prosper and have peace in your new home.

I love the bolded quote - so true.

I'd much rather have a cuppa with you lol....and to that point, I'm still waiting for my invite to the house warming - spicy jellof washed down with a nice cup of tea sounds delicious 😁

Can you expand on the bold?
No 1 - The benefit system needs to be thoroughly modified. There is no British citizen who will willingly work in a care home / prison system instead of claiming benefits.
There is barely incentive to work when benefit can be claimed with ease. This report was done in 2023 -->

"Analysis by Civitas of Office for National Statistics (ONS) data from 2020-21 showed a record 54.2% of people (36 million) now live in households which received more in benefits than they contributed in taxes."
https://news.sky.com/story/record-number-of-britons-receiving-benefits-that-amount-to-more-than-they-pay-in-tax-study-finds-12793349

I think this is part of the reason they assume every immigrant who obtains citizenship will go on to do the same

No 2 - There is no country on earth that punishes people who are willing to work with taxes and gives to the lazy that ends up working longterm as something has to give. I am not saying taxes aren't good but there should be a limit.

Kemi sure has improved giving Starmer and his hand woto woto from all angles. His answers to everything is after 14 years of the conservatives, they had 14 years to know how not to run a country and here we are.

Kemi critics what you say?
Many of her critics (well, the non Naija ones lol) are admitting that she is performing a lot better these days. Apparently she has a new team prepping her for PMQs etc.

Her approval/favourabiility rating is much higher than Starmer's, and even Farage a few weeks ago.

I still don't believe that she'll make PM however.

Like one of us here said some time ago the exit of care workers from the sector after obtaining ilr is their greatest worry especially now that overseas workers entry has been banned reason for the threat of 15 year ilr qualification to keep folks in that sector for as long as possible.

Bigotry is terrible, makes you look stupid no matter how you spin it. How you do explain to your people you can’t even find prison workers? Farm workers, care workers, delivery riders thank God bus conductors no exist for this country shortage go dey for that one too 😂 even police officers too they are looking for while patriots sip their beer at home!
It's quite weird and funny.

You know you need people
You collect more from those people and bring them in
You call them essentials workers during the pandemic and even laude them
You come back and cry that they are low level bottom feeders
Not even up to a year, you are already sounding alarms

This does not make plans for those who will leave the sector, go on to other countries, redundancies, death etc. Just assumptions that lots will remain for 10 - 15 yrs

That does not seem like a coherent strategy to me

They can't have coherent strategy when most of their policies are reactionary, following media frenzy. This Labour govt will go down as one of the most disorganised leadership in the UK history.

There was never a plan, we often blame naija politicians back home of only thinking about elections and not governance, are we sure is not the same here? cos right from Brexit and through all these immigration ish it’s actually more of clinging to power by all means

It actually does seem so

Politics should not be reactionary and policies should be implemented for the greater good.

It"s hard for even them to plan with all the many things they have to change and adjust time and again. I am waiting to see if they will also make exceptions for folks in healthcare too

Lessons ahead cheesy

Brexit should have never happened and it seems they didnt learn their lessons.

The UK needs to leave its colonial mentality and change with the times like UAE, Qatar and Saudi are now doing.

Maybe it is time for a new generation of politicians with new ideas to come to the fore.

Time will tell smiley

Hehe... careful before you are accused of insulting Brits.

Imagine if Britain goes to war with Russia today... be rest assured there'd be a fast track pathway for 'brothers' from the commonwealth to join the British Army. Nobody would claim Army jobs are being stolen

Interesting. Would be keen to know how this has changed between then and now.

Reminds me when the government decided to heap the blame on GPs and folks fell for it blaming GPs for the out-of-work culture. Ultimately that didn't change economic facts and the labour government knew there had to be some policy change. Look what happened when MPs tried to update the framework. It was definitely easier offshoring fault to someone else.

I gather there are now over 1 million young people out of work yet you keep hearing phrases like 'support' e.t.c. What support does a youngie who spends the day playing games in his mums council house apparment need to go work in Care? We should look at other systems in the west and do thesame not sugarcoating facts.

Like I told someone recently as we spoke about 'support'. Non-working young men should be given a new Mercedes S-Class, a regular supply of weed and perhaps Asian ladies to suit their desire. Most of them would be satisfied with this- they are Brits afterall. When the money finish all man eye go clear.

He may not necessarily a far right, more like someone who doesn't have the mind of his own and can easily be swayed by bandwagon.

People like that are bad market for political leadership because they will lead the country astray as they themselves no kukuma get direction

Its white supremacy and entitlement in full display

Its the need to feel "in charge"

I'll tell you how

If he waved the British flag, they will say he is NOT british and he should "go home"
.He waved the Nigerian flag, and below is their response.

If Fury does Irish flag, no one will complain

To add pain to their injury, Joshua whopped their racist MAGA boy, thats double pain lol.

Its just a yt (racist) man's problem
The need to be in charge and on top of others

It cascades even to the larger society

Black folks (some) like being around white folks living among them and all, they will be saying they dont want you around them and be sneering and be doing white flight

Okay na, some Pakistanis say f.... it, they live in their own enclaves and having their things in their own way, these same fkers will say they are "not integrating"

This just goes to show that you can never be classed as an English man or woman in their eyes even if you are a10th Gen migrant as long as you have coloured skin. It’s good for parents to let their kids know about their ancestry and culture. I live in a white dominated environment and my kids often ask “daddy why does everyone have white face and we have brown face. I let them know they are from Nigeria and Africa and that’s how we look. It gives them some kind of identity. Even Nigel Farage’s speak German to the kids.

Probably best to be completely sure before posting on this thread. People come here for information.
The government updated the guidance to make it much harder for landlords to blame tenants. The guidance makes it clear that ordinary use, including drying laundry, is not a cause of damp. (And I know this is correct because despite all my laundry being air dried indoors in winter, there is no damp in my house).

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications /damp-and-mould-understanding-and -addressing-the-health-risks-for-rented-housing -providers/understanding-and-addressing-the -health-risks-of-damp-and-mould-in-the-home --2#legal-standards-on-damp-and-mould-in

-rented-homes
Viruses:
Lifestyle can cause mould especially during winter and there is nothing the landlord can do to change that. That is why many times when you rent or buy, there is a pack dedicated for mould control.
If the issue is due to moisture inside the house, you just need to continue to control it.

My descendants will be british kids of african (and South Asian) descent, but that doesnt make them inferior to any group of ppl.

Your approach is very okay, but it can be a double edged sword though
