aribisala0:Let me explain to you. You don't understand how beautifully planned Nigeria was back then There was a housing lottery scheme wherein you apply. Different states and areas had different prices. Someone I know got shagari estate back then for 60 naira Not everyone gets o. And 100 naira was like valuable money back then. Then they were begging people to leave back then. People saw it as punishment back then when told to travel to Poland, Canada etc. Talking from paternal experience. They go for training and run back into Nigeria. Several foreigners were in Nigeria then. Nigeria was a big deal back then before Babangida fell for the trap in 82. |

AlphaTaikun:You would have bought Suya for 20k in 1982 and not N20. A cartoon of beer was N1 in 1982. The woman meant she paid N100 as deposit in 1979 because Festac and Satellite houses were sold on mortgage. |

I ppogba:Exactly what I was about to tell him 20 is 20% of 100 If #20 can buy suya that three people could finish then adding additional #60 to it can't buy any house I doubt if there was ever a time that 100 could buy a house, mayby 1914 |

TRIXIA:Your dad is the one you should call to explain to me Not you Nigeria was not beautifully planned in 1980 The Airport in Port Harcourt did not exist Third Mainland bridge did not exist There was nothing like housing lottery That is a lie if you are sure name the location in Benin or Port Harcourt The first Low Cost Housing scheme in Nigeria was started by Jakande in the early 80s https://dailytrust.com/how-jakandes-mass-housing-policy-helped-the-poor/?utm_source=chatgpt.com To express interest N50 form to show interest and make a deposit of N1,200 for a 3-bedroom flat and N1,000 for 2-bedroom flat in any of the estates. JUST DEPOSIT NOT TOTAL COST The lottery was about location so most people would pick popular locations but a lottery system would be used for allocation 100 naira was a lot of money about 100 pounds or 150 dollars Not enough to buy a car not to talk of house A brand new Peugeot 504 In official Nigerian government/import price schedules from the late 1970s to 1980, the Peugeot 504 GL Saloon was typically listed at around ₦5,780 to ₦6,700 depending on trim and options (e.g., air‑conditioning, automatic) — this is the approved landed/import price before taxes & duties. |

No HighQue007:However it wasn't as bad as this time. Remember population has grown up so much, without any planning for increased population over the years. More population demanding for fewer things, and our productivity is not increasing, coupled with more curruption over the years. |

Svoboda:You were the one who was born yesterday. It wasn't possible to buy a house for #100 in 1979. I know the 80s very well and I understand what she meant was that they paid a down payment of #100. How much was a bag of cement in 1979? Start from there |

100 naira in 1979 is 250k naira today in 2025. It's highly unlikely that you could buy 100 x 100 plot of land then let alone but a whole house. Mama, reframe your thoughts! |

HighQue007:as an ecomomic guru and life understander wizard you claim to be, i was expecting you to give us the breakdown and tell us the value of 100 naira in 1979 to today's Nigeria but you ended up saying nothing meaning you even lack understanding of what you are saying. in 1979, the monthly minimum wage in Nigeria was the same N100 and your 2months salary if you are on a minimum wage can comfortable buy you that house if what she is saying is true. so how can you now be saying it was difficult to get it then?. in today's Nigria, even your one year minimum wage cant buy a land, not to talk of building a house. Please life wasnt this difficult then and try to know something before jumping to gaslight people |

aribisala0:There was housing lottery in Lagos in the late 70s & early 80s o. I grew up in festac and a number of people living there at the time were government workers and people that "won" their apartments at the lottery. That's what the government did with the blocks of flats and houses built specifically for Festac '77. I don't know how much the tickets were but it can't be more than N100 but you can only apply once. People applied with all the members of their family including babies |
