Good day nairalanders, so I plan on going to the University next year to study Economics but I wrote art subjects in waec..I wanted to study law/political science but I am switching to economics now.

The issue is I want to write GCE next year only writing economics as I feel it the only missing piece in my weac to study the course. Is it possible? Will I have to write commerce and all those commercial subjects?

..Yes you can. You just need Math, English, Economics and any other 2 subjects. Weda Geography,Agric, just any 2, you are good to go .

You have to have passion for the course, a kind of passion that drives you to go above and beyond what the lecturers (professor) are feeding you

Otherwise you will be frustrated

Economics is not what you think if you are not good in calculation....
I mean very good with math....

Coming from an Economics graduate with a GPA of 4.25 , Economics is more than what you read in your SSS textbook (DD and SS) . Are you good in maths and calculus? If you are not , stick to your art courses where you guys read and read literatures . 100L is just like continuation of secondary school (eng, maths account and the rest) from 300L , you start doing Econometrics and calculus . Wish you well in your endeavour .

You didn't even attended secondary school. If not you wouldn't even ask this kind of question.

is Economics Art or Science inclined?

Yes you can but it will be a struggle if you don't have strong math and social science background.

Talk to a professional guidance and counselor

Every subject is scientific and art. However most schools have subject requirement. I suggest you get a Jamb brochure.

Yes. I was an Art student in my secondary school but studied Economics. Today, I am a proud Economist. Just make sure you are good at mathematics.

Econs is a selective course.

Having Maths, English, Econs plus two good subjects like Agric, Biology, Commerce, Geography in one WAEC/NECO sitting, will be advantageous.

Combining subjects may not be good. They may end up pushing you to Sociology.

Be sure that your Maths is top top.

majority of my set that studied Economics were Arts students.

Why would you do something like that. What's wrong with you. This is why Cain killed Abel. Do not do it or else evil will befall you.

Go and learn Further Mathematics very well because you will be doing more of dy/dx from 300l and above.

Those in Banking and accounting will tell you more. I wanted to read Economics but I ended up reading Finance and Banking but it’s still all calculations from 200l .

Wrong move...You will be wasting your time studying economics or political science except you wont be looking for job in that direction or have government jobs waiting for you

Why not study accounting so that you can spread your tentacles in the job market when you graduate

You are still young but many people older than you have not grown out of fears, so I tell you, YES YOU CAN.

Anything you put your mind in, you can. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise please. This singular mindset and belief has let some people give up and think they can't.

To your question, within the context of what you are telling us, why do you want to switch to Economics? You are not telling us the full picture.

You want to go from art to science . Economics will humble, btw there are lots of (prerequisite) courses you must pass before you do the advanced class.

Economics is a science(social)and not an Art course.

Great move bro, buh my advise is that before choosing any career path consult people that are very vast in that career area. Study the broucher very well so you will not choose wrong subject combination. Economics is one of the greatest Management science courses. Buh you will need to braze up.

i studied yeye course, now I am a labourer in a construction site under and engineer that is younger than me. he earns massively for doing almost nothing while i earn meagre amount for doing the hardest job, which make my back ache.

U can still turn things around with a plan... All u need is a plan and focus to actualize the plan
