Just give Osimhen 45 mins then allow him rest
You know how easily Osimhen can get injured. Remember what happened against DRC? Why take such a stûpid risk for God's sake when we've already qualified and we have decent strikers on the bench?

Even Bassey is starting. One injury to him and our tournament is pretty much over.

Wetin Chelle dey smoke sef?

Folks would still use this game to knock Onyedika while still excusing Iwobi's defensive lapses.

Iwobi has Ndidi and Onyeka to cover him. Who is Onyedika paired with today? An attack minded-FDB?? It is well. Let the first 45 play out. That 2 man midfield is somehow.

joelsteron:
Chelle why now? grin You should have giving my Onyedika an assist just like Ndidi and onyeka and sacrifice one winger, Simon is useless now. He can't cross balls.

.
That's like a failure projection. Why should any of his fans be scared or worried. If he is the man or the monster , he should go show what he is made of. Afterall the tired old weak legs of Ndidi played in this similar position in the first game. So what stops onyedika?

That na your matter o

He’s the best striker we have after osimen

Instead of criticizing Paul we should watch his club games and play to his strengths

Because club wise onuachu is a different animal
That is a humongous lie btw, he's not in our top 3 strikers outside of Osimhen

What better Birthday gift? Skipper at an Afcon game. Chelle do well.
Until he gets injured and is either ruled out of the remaining games or plays with the injury like he did at the last AFCON with his abilities limited.

Why not give Dessers or Onuachu a start for God's sake? Haven't we qualified? How are they supposed to feel now?

Onyedika is good no doubt

But he’s not better than what we got currently and it shows

He’s a better short passer than ndidi and onyeka

But weaker than onyeka and ndidi physically albeit he’s way younger

He doesn’t have the productivity to displace iwobi.

So oyendika is just there good enough to pair with your starting CM

but not good enough to own the midfield by himself

Against a Uganda team he’ll thrive trust me

He can boss the midfield and hold his own

But his man to man marking that’s his problem he’s not dirty enough

Why don't we allow the starting 11 to breathe and watch how it plays out before complaining. We don't know what the game plan is or what was practiced in training.

Wow.Nice line-up.

A more creative/attack minded midfielders/attackers against less fancied teams, like Tanzania and Uganda.

From his line-up, he is attacking Uganda, like he did to Tanzania.

We should expect quick, breathtaking, successive attacking/counter-attacking football.

This is similar to what Mikel Arteta did with Arsenal last season. He started Ordegaard, Havertz and Rice against mid-table teams, but Jorginho,Rice and Odegaard against the top 6 in the EPL.

You're right
Osimhen and Bassey should have been rested
But who knows?
Osimhen may give us a hattrick this first half, and Bassey is there to help Ogbu blend in

Got you Doc! no P.

Well, you also name dropped Nwakali who hasn't done anything near Iwobi for the national team.

As regards mentioning Okocha many people criticized him for his lack of defensive contributions too even though he was a magician on the ball.

Again, like I said before I also want Iwobi to do his fair share of defensive work but if it will be at the expense of his attacking contributions, I know what I will choose.

TheSuperNerd:
The Hypocrisy was not even referring to you. If you felt it was for you then you clearly misread. The hypocrisy refers to the 2021 period where folks were expecting everything offensive and defensive from Nwakali who started one game and played 2x as a sub while ignoring Iwobi's defensive lapse today. If you felt it was for you, then that is not my doing.

Now, despite Nwakali not being a starter at Afcon 2021, he had better chances creation stats than every midfielder we paraded at that Afcon so the notion that he didnt contribute that much offensively is not true at all. I remember clearly dropping the numbers and folks deviated from that to his defensive lapses.

Now, we are in 2025. Another Afcon and you are saying that we should not really be concerned about Iwobi's defensive numbers so long as he keeps delivering the progressive passing and creative throughballs and all that (something he doesnt consistently deliver too). This means you all are tolerant of a weak side that could come back to hurt us and I point this out now so that when it does (if it persists), none of you complain later.

Name dropping Jay Jay Okocha? Okocha is not in the same league as Iwobi as far as the Super Eagles is concerned. Iwobi is not Okocha that he should not contribute to defence

In modern global football, it is often said, if you are not Messi or C.Ronaldo, then you have to bloody defend!

Infact Jurgen Klopp, then coach of Liverpool uttered the words... "If you are not Lionel Messi, you have to defend." He said this while while he had the famed front 3 of Firmino, Salah and Mane.

This applies to the Super Eagles where Okocha remains the biggest AM name that ever featured for us. World renowned. Well respected. You cannot bring Iwobi's uncle into a conversation about Iwobi defending because Iwobi will never be up to the level of the legend that Okocha was in football. That is facts.

Iwobi must contribute his quota to defending if we are to compete with Africa's best in the middle game. Ndidi must not be overworked. And Onyeka cannot do it all while combining two roles as a double pivot and RCM.

Dele Bashiru is yet to convince me of his midfield skills. All I have seen from him so far is running and work rate. He hasn't shown that midfield control or passing skill that a good midfielder should have in my opinion. We'll see how he does today.

Well, not defending Ogunmodede or Fidelis but what if the Onyedika-FDB pair was Chelle's choice?

FDB is a strong lad shaa. I just hope he helps Onyedika in the middle. I want to believe Chelle gave him defensive instructions. Chukwueze will likely play his free role.

He shouldn't have been given more than five to ten minutes at most given his injury record.

Egypt didn't play Salah AT ALL in their dead rubber match. It's for a reason.
