Some years ago, I was in FUTO. I left my lodge to an all night in ikenegbu. It was my state headquarters, I was a leader in the campus fellowship.


Nobody from FUTO came because obviously many students had gone back home. I didn't want to go home. I needed to use that time to pray and fast.


Service finished few minutes past 12. I asked to sleep in church since I couldn't actually be heading back to FUTO that night.



Omo, dem no gree me sleep. The painful part was that they knew me.


I had to sleep in front of one photo studio like that.


It was painful.

This was 9 years ago.

I Started thinking of the danger I exposed myself to that night. I'm grateful to God that I was protected. No evil happened that day.


However, I learnt a lesson. Not to tempt God in a country like Nigeria.

3 years ago, I decided I will stop attending the cross over night service.

Any service that can not last till at least 5 am, count me out.

I have stopped attending cross over services for 3 years now. I join online if I have the chance.

1 Samuel 15:22 addresses direct disobedience to a clear instruction God gave Saul, not voluntary acts of worship that God neither commanded nor forbade. There is no biblical command that says “Thou shalt not pray or give thanks at the turn of a calendar year.”

As for Deuteronomy 12:30, the warning was against adopting pagan worship practices and idols, not against marking time or offering prayers. The Bible itself acknowledges the passage of years and seasons (Ecclesiastes 3:1; Psalm 90:12).

A crossover service is not a doctrine, a commandment, or a requirement, it is simply a cultural expression of prayer and thanksgiving. Christians are free in such matters, as long as Christ is central (Romans 14:5–6).

Even PRAYING and WORSHIPPING is now wrong to this ones because it wasn't recorded anywhere in the bible that someone prayed through the night into a new day/month/year.

That's why i said this is not for all kinds of people {2Thessalonians 3:2} only those having faith will treasure imitating faithful servants of God in all things {1Corinthans 10:11} our brothers knows what to do once they are reminded of the time in which we are living.
So once they hear the voice of The Word {John 1:1} reminding them of the danger of following pagan traditions they heed such warnings they won't argue.
The New year observance is from pagan traditions not found among God's servants!🙂

According to your logic, since some pagans worshipped their deities on the eve of a new year, it automatically means that any Christian praying to God on New Year’s Eve is also practicing paganism?

Once you say something discouraging about their preferred ritual they will hate you with passion.

I don't know what exactly could make a Christian group drive away an invited guest after the service instead of taking him to another place where he could relax if there is any reason for him to stay around till the next day.

In my church nobody sleeps in our place of worship because we don't do cross over service that could delay us till late night but even if such should happen that a fellow believer is stranded please ask anyone throughout the world what Jehovah's Witnesses will do for any member who is stranded in any part of this planet because anywhere we find ourselves is home for all members of Jehovah's Witnesses as long as our brothers and sisters are in that country not to talk of a place where we already have a Kingdom Hall where brothers and sisters are living close by!😟
