If the ‘Ibale’ culture of virginity-keeping before marriage, as practised by the Yorubas, were to return today, only 1% of women would get married. This is because many young ladies have been pounded more than Gaza, Palestine, since puberty. This part caught my attention. This writer withheld nothing. grin grin
Why should such atrocities be returned? Is it because you think it is ok for men to, after their much oloshoism— not that that era really ever ends for most Nigerian men(some even experiment with other men)— be rewarded with a virgin? 🥱🥱🥱

Fortunately, women today are no longer as stewpid and naive as their grandmothers and mothers were. undecided

Even if poverty level was low in Nigeria, these ladies would still justify their actions. Prostitution is mostly fueled by greed and not poverty. The moment people learn to be content with what they have in this country, things would definitely get better.

They are not the ones making it. Prostitution has been normal since the time of your ancestors. Women had to hide their truths back in those days to pretend they were virgins to get married. These days, women are better able to live openly and freely their truths, not living in fear of running into the same men who engaged in oloshoism with them by the way to shame them. 🥱🥱🥱

Some of you are just completely off your rockers and don't even realize it. 🥱🥱🥱

Sex has always been transactional in Nigerian society

Tinubu's venal policies have however lowered the price of pv§§y to an unprecedented nadir...99% of the men coming from USA/Europe for 'Detty December' are in actual fact coming on sex tourism

And have you noticed how aggressively Nigerians beg these days? I've had to steer clear of many of my usual haunts simply because my safety is no more guaranteed unless I spread a huge wad of cash round the local boys in such places, people like Ibedun who can't expect to survive their self-invited socioeconomic catastrophe unless they divest themselves of every shred of dignity

it's just totally distressing and terrifying angry

You still blame Tinubu for Oloso matter.
Prostitution is the oldest business.

Only fans are mostly for Americans. Nigeria didnt start the porn industry. We are even insignificant in all these you are trying to wrap around us.
Oga it is linked to poverty, Nigeria has not gone through this level of poverty and misery ever, maybe in the east during the Civil War. Bros the way even married women call their ex for money these days it is a cause for alarm, imagine a lady saying in her adugbo at agbara, all the husbands go to work in Lagos, most come home just month end or during emergency, infact she de propose to hangout say she go leave her kids with neighbor, say that one too de leave her kids with her. Men cannot come home daily due to high transport cost, some cannot afford to send money home to wives nursing kids so na so them go take calls de beg for money up and down. Forget about single ladies, Omo young men with girlfriends these days, forget senior men de take them play guitar all due to increased poverty brought by this man and his greed.

It is actually documented fact . Poor/bad economy equals increased prostitution , less marriages, increased.abortionsand more baby mamas .
Re: There’s A Strange Trend In Nigeria Right Now by lomaxx: 11:49pm On Jan 02
I don't know how to respond to this, but transactional sex was still rife at the height of Nigeria's economic prosperity.

Have we bothered to check whether this is the end product of cultural norms and the predominant expectation of the male to be a provider, even in the most unreasonable circumstances? If yes, then you hardly can blame the economic trend. It probably accelerated things , but it is hardly causal

The idea that there are fewer marriages, more abortions, etc., exists only in the minds of individuals and is not backed up by facts, though. 🥱🥱🥱

Yesterday I broke my own rules, I stopped to give a lady a lift as it seemed public transport was scarce.
She was happy to talk, and in the short distance we drove, she already spoke about fixing her hair, she hadn't eaten, she would love to visit her mom...I stopped so she could buy something to eat, she too the money I offered to pay for the food and I didn't get any change back! That was when I knew so much has changed in the world!!
Dropping her, she offered her phone number I took it and said I'll give her a missed call...I sincerely doubt i will...

Over 44 million youths(not considering older people) are reportedly still unemployed in Nigeria to this day. But your particular issue is with why women are choosing prostitution when the economy has been going to hell in a handbasket for the last 10 or so years? 🥱🥱🥱
Re: There’s A Strange Trend In Nigeria Right Now by Tendd:
It is not always about poverty but easy money or laziness to find job and make an honest living.lf poverty was the driving factor, why do Nigerian girls still go out to prostitute in countries with a relatively low unemployment rate or where it's not so difficult to find jobs? There are countries with better social network and support, tailored specifically for women in distress situations, but some of our women would rather go to the streets than take the opportunities offered. Why don't one find other women from relatively poor countries doing prostitution in the manner you find our women,if all was because of poverty?

Like the ladies in the picture accompanying this thread, I still can't wrap my head around how I'll dress up, at times to the teeth, in the night like this; when every evening I rush home to go UnCloth. I think it's weird. Poverty cannot be the only reason responsible for this.

okay o, some truth in this write up
So who are the people paying for the sex?

The same poor men who toil night and day to make some money right

So, if the men are that foolish to be spending their earnings on lazy women should that be a cause for national debate?

Is it not the men that are making the money in this harsh economy that are using their hard earned money to do what they enjoy?

If the economy is that bad, where are the men getting the money to spend on the women?

This write up no make any sense to me, cos there's money to be spent on women by men who make the money , so what is the problem

And when I see blanket generalization like this I ask the Op, are your sisters and the women in your family all into this to make you make such a bold generalization
The fact is that the vast majority of women out there are busy and hardworking even the so called Prostitutes
Because Prostitution is a career in advanced countries

Prostitution skyrocketed since Tinubu came to power, from university prostitutes to the ones that stay by the road side at night looking for customers.

Let's not deceive ourselves, things are really hard. Will a change of government reverse the situation even if that's possible? That remains to be seen but let's push through

Dressing up to the T in the evenings has nothing to do with poverty. Ladies do it all over the world for many different reasons....work, dates, clubbing, partying, occasions, hanging out, etc. Nighttime is not immediately bedtime for everyone out there, even right there in Nigeria. 🥱🥱

Terrible trend, if the researcher was right, the percentage went up recently truly. Sex that is a recreative and procreational act is been reduced to financial services.

It's greed mostly not poverty. These girls long for a life they can never achieve

Hard working men don't patronize sex workers esp those refered to in this context, most hardworking men have permanent girlfriends and sex partners who are mutual benefactors. Within this context of the writer he's referring to the economical prostitutes- those who bargain with and target high enders to improve their life! No ordinary worker pay attention to those girls, they have a niche and target customers

. Sex is recreational for whom? 🥱🥱

2. Greed? The life they long for can never be achieved, because you would rather the girls offer their bodies, energy, and time up for free to men demanding the service of sex from them, right? undecided
