Hard working men don't patronize sex workers esp those refered to in this context , most hardworking men have permanent girlfriends and sex partners who are mutual benefactors.
➜ Within this context of the writer he's referring to the economical prostitutes- those who bargain with and target high enders to improve their life! No ordinary worker pay attention to those girls, they have a niche and target customers
. Mutual benefactors who don't get financial compensation or favors from these hardworking men? Are you shitting us or something? 🥱🥱🥱

2. Economical prostitutes? What nonsense is this? 🥱🥱🥱

Why are you conflicting yourself? You said they do bbl etc instead of investing. How will they get bigger customers like senators and politicians if they dont “invest “ ? They are already investing brother..

Prostitution is an old time profession even in developed Nations.

It's a worldwide profession and phenomenon, so your basis for the report is flawed.

Randy men and women are all over world, every country with it's own, every culture with its own.

Nothing surprising in the article.

I have written countless posts on it explaining how basic economics and basic biology are linked, but many still refute it.

Well, reality is different, and it is reality that matters.

Personal opinion, poverty is the major factor for the prevalence of prostitution in Nigeria.
It is in every part of the world. It is why sex workers are expensive in wealthier societies because there are fewer women into it. The average woman does not like to have sex with different men. However, even in wealthier countries, sex work exists because men's biology drives the constant need for sex. Women have the monopoly.

So, sex work will continue.

Many netizens keep saying this. Assuming it is true, it brings me to the question: Why do Igbo ladies dominate the sex work industry?

- The sheer love for money as practiced in the culture
- A liberal culture which promotes independence, liberty and freewill
- Christianity, which offers a room for repentance and forgiveness

Apt.

This us the post I was looking for!

Poverty they say causes it for ladies to open their legs for anyone but ask then what they do with the money in the transactional sex?

Wigs, bags, hair, attachments, shoes, jewellery, bbl and all whatnots. Hardly on food and education.

Poverty is multidimensional, the one happening to Nigerian ladies is all of them.

The Culture worship money and what money offers too much. The Culture never ask where and how the money comes as long as you have it. This leaves the door open for everything and anything.

It is not only in that culture though, the same thing can be said of the Yorubas just across the Niger but on a lesser magnitude but it is there for the discerning minds to see.

I think it is not Poverty but the culture to have more and more "garbage " they call possessions.

Wigs, shoes, clothes, bags, bbl, toning creams, eye lashes etc. If you craved these things, I don't think it is Poverty.

Nice writeup.

The pandemic of transactional sex is becoming quite alarming in recent years. I can remember vividly in the year 2010-2015, we hardly hear of hookup or transactional sex, even though it was in existence, the prevalence wasn't as it is today. Women now hawk their bodies in exchange for money. They jump from one hotel to another selling their goods and services. Some go as far as creating social media accounts to display their goods, rolling and gyrating their different assets with the motive of attracting randy men that are ready to pay for those assets.
Transactional sex had always existed. It was known as runs girls, but they were not eulogised. They did their thing privately. However, with the destruction of the economy by Buhari, things went down the drain. A harmless term - hookup - became sexualised.

These are ladies whose parents suffered to train through different universities. After graduation, the majority take to hookup as their preferred occupation for survival (it brings quick money).
I have actually seen ladies who do this, and it is surreal. But, interestingly, you omit the buyers here who are mainly men. Nigerian men have a sheer need for sex, and I dare say most Nigerian men, especially those with the financial power, are actually happy that hookup is normalised and the girls are abundant. Except, of course, when their sister or daughter or wife (many marry ladies in the game) indulges in it. The advent of lads who made quick and huge money via yahoo yahoo exacerbated everything. Before now, it was mostly oil workers, politicians, drug dealers, corporate executives and thriving businessmen who could afford to carry women upandown. However, with teens and lads in their early twenties being flooded with quick cash unlike their older folks, they charged up by carrying women upandown including indulging in heart-held fantasies.

Yahoo yahoo boys, after Buhari, contributed the most in the spread of the hookup culture. Quick and huge money in the hands of very young men must be spent somewhere, and where else than in trying to ejaculate?

8 out of 10 ladies you see are into one hookup or the other. That's quite alarming. They've turned Badoo, bumble and Trueflutter into social media hookup platforms. Platform that the founders developed for the sole purpose of connecting with people around your vicinity, they've turned it to the breeding ground of prostitution.
You are being disingenuous here. If those girls are on those platforms for a year without getting men who will patronise their services, they will deactivate. Some pay heavy fees to register and maintain their profiles, so when there is no money forthcoming, they will leave. However, they won't because the majority of our men patronise their services.

They will even state their prices and even go as far as telling any intending swiper to go straight to the point or swipe left to unmatch them.
Of course, as proper businesswomen that they are. Time is money. Why waste time? BTW, when did Nigerians start trying to date or form a healthy relationship via dating apps? It is not our thing. Dating apps were never going to work or be the predominant way to meet a partner in Nigeria, and this is across cultures and both religions.

Males and females can no longer build genuine connections any more, as 70% of our ladies have turned everything into transactional gains.
Our men also contributed as they became openly and arrogantly polygamous. They, according to the women, never regarded "understanding girlfriends", but spent a lot on women outside. So, why not be the woman outside and gain more money than the one inside? Our married men pride themselves in having side chicks and carrying babes. You think these women don't read these posts?

I call on the government to put a law against hookup and prostitution to combat this profane and unholy widespread pandemic.

Let's save our girls/women even though they don't want to be saved.
Just have to state something here: it is not every anomaly that the gov't has to enact a law to stem the tide. In most cases, government intervention worsens things rather than makes them good.

Now, to a law against prostitution: it will never work, as it goes against male biology. Policymakers are predominantly men, and these men patronise these girls. It is Nigerian politicians who host elaborate parties filled with university female students; Nigerian corporate big-wigs (most of whom are men) who host similar parties filled with young women. In fact, men cannot have a nice time without the presence of women. This is biologically appropriate.

The two alternatives are Sharia Law and making your society wealthy. But then, sex work thrives in Dubai and even in wealthy Singapore, sex work thrives, although heavily regulated.

Testosterone is a hormone, not a m0ro n. The very fact that men have the biological urge to ejaculate every day means sex workers will continue to exist.

I think the Civil War contributed to it as many Igbo families suddenly got at the back of their feet financially. This gave rise to a belief to make up for things again, and via any means possible. But yes, the culture heavily promotes money, so many are pressured to make it so they are well-regarded in society.

The thing with the comparison is that even Igbo women are said to form a significant proportion of sex workers in other parts of the Southwest outside of Lagos. If in Ghana and neighbouring countries, we have more Igbo women engaging in sex work, then the comparison fails. This is where religion and the culture of freewill comes in.

I think it is not Poverty but the culture to have more and more "garbage " they call possessions.
Poverty contributes to a rise in sex workers across all cultures, but in this context, I agree that it is not only poverty, but a sheer love for money regardless of how one makes it.

Wigs, shoes, clothes, bags, bbl, toning creams, eye lashes etc. If you craved these things, I don't think it is Poverty.
So greed then, and the lure of easy money. Men are the patrons, but why are we not seeing Northern women engaging in it widely across regions in Nigeria and even outside of Nigeria? That is where religion comes in.

Nah, they spend on education, food and family.

The research on the sex industry in Lagos state revealed it: Education came second in expenditures. Beauty products were number one.

It has gone so bad that even housewives are now involved, sleeping with men for paltry sums, exchanging numbers casually at parties, weddings, and social gatherings. Some of these encounters even involve friends’ husbands, with little secrecy or shame. Poverty has normalised desperation and collapsed boundaries that once held society together.

Just like armed robbery is a choice not brought about by poverty ,prostitution is also a choice unrelated to poverty .poverty is a readily available excuse for men women who will not want to take responsibility for their choices
