What are you saying If you wait for the school to reach out to you first, they will be reaching out with a letter declining your application due to the ban. You are supposed to reach them first.yusman14: |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Akinlot: 7:44pm On Jan 03 |
Vanjori:This is not true. I can confirm that schools are still contacting applicants and conducting interviews despite the ban. |

How can you send up to 80 emails and yet only two replied?? I am not saying you are not doing well but, I believe there is something you are doing wrong to get just few replies. I always tell people when sending cold emails, the subject of your email the timing of when that email is sent is the key factor if that email will be reviewed or not. Also don't send generic emails, do a good background check on the person you intend to send an email to. I remember in November I sent some emails to one supervisor in one school, he read the email and contacted me in less than 30 minutes (this is the fastest I have ever gotten). Five days later,we have an interview and I thank God for the rest. There is something you are doing wrong to get those few replies. You can drop a sample of the email you do send here or email me if you need help. I wish you the best. Don't relent. You will succeed. Ose2988: |

Read to understand. I still stand on what I said. All prospective students who has summited an application to a US university before the visa ban should reach out to them before they contact an applicant themselves. Many applications are being declined due to lack of communication. When this visa issue started, the first thing I did was to contact schools I have not gotten an offer from. I explained to them the current situation (even though I know they are aware) and while some school said they will consider my application, others said they will consider my application for the next semester and I do not need to apply again to them. Now it will shock you that most of my guys who refused to contact them were sent an email saying due to the visa issues, their application cannot be considered. Communication is key. In situations like this you need to communicate. Don't go ahead telling people to disregard communicating with their school, you will be doing them more harm than good. Efetobore1980: |

Vanjori:I applied to 9 schools. One sent a mail asking me to exercise some patience that review is still ongoing. Another reached out for an interview which will be done next week. 7 are yet to send me a mail and I haven't gotten any rejection. If your friends are getting rejected, they would have gotten rejected without the visa ban. |

Efetobore1980:I absolutely agree. Whatever decision the school will take has nothing to do with an email to them. If your profile is good and they want you, they will review your application inspite of the ban. |

Efetobore1980:There is a timeframe na…. That list doesn’t just come out anytime they feel like. It’s by June before we hear anything again. So whatever the Nigerian govt can do up until then to show seriousness in dealing with its security, they should do. |

But what about those whose dates are very close, should one just abandon the interview? SimpleGuy001: |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by SimpleGuy001: 5:37pm On Jan 05 |
teejegs367:Abandon the interview. They will then let you reschedule if you don’t show up. You can now reschedule to a much later date to see if the ban will be lremoved or simply just wait until lifted to do your interview. Don’t go and spoil your profile. Cause when they deny you, they will be expecting you to tell them what has changed since your app. Why take that risk? |

This is the link to the December 2025 proclamation. https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/12/restricting-and-limiting-the-entry-of-foreign-nationals-to-protect-the-security-of-the-united-states/ Section 7 in the proclaimation clearly spells the review period as every 180 days. I have attached the screenshot. Just so you know, the last time Nigeria was designated a CPC, it was by Trump and we stayed on that list till Biden came in and removed us. If similar trend is to play out, Nigeria may be on the list till another US government that is favourably disposed to us. The body language of our current govt shows it is not ready to work constructively with the US govt. Lastly, some reports coming out (yet to be actually verified) are kind of scary. It seems people with valid visas are being turned back at the border. I am yet to verify any but if the reports are true then it does not bode well for students still in the country. My advice will be for any student here to diversify their options. Pursue the US (they still have the best schools and largest scholarship pots) but also target Europe and Asia and even Africa. What matters is that one is progressing and not stuck waiting for politicians and diplomacy to ease things. Efetobore1980:

I reflected on this deeply today and sincerely I can't pretend to feel your pains. Knowing the cost of paying for app fees, the travails of sending emails, preparing your proposal, reading for your GRE or GMAT, writing essays and SOPs etc and doing that as a Nigerian in Nigeria with all the hardships and challenges, I can't even imagine how you feel. What is worse are folks planning for 2026 fall admission (MBA) who applied to R1 and just got notices of acceptance in December with scholarships! To realise that it may have been in vain is some calamity that I cannot even comprehend. I will encourage you to keep hope alive and reach out to other schools. Keep the US tab open but have options. This is now my default approach to doing things - having a lot of options. It is very expensive but it does keep one moving. I wish you all the best. yusman14: |

Don't be deceived. The Ban will remain till the end of Trump administration that's January 2029. Forget US for now |

Any approvals lately? |

earnvest:It seems you guys are expecting magic. Even if approved (highly unlikely). How will border control let you in? |

Honestly, when I see some comments in this thread I end up laughing. Many people don't pay attention to reasoning until it is too late and they end up crying. I remember telling someone to leave his interview for now because he mustbe denied. He ended up quarrelling me, even after I made him understand that under the new law, visa cannot be issued to Nigerians (except in a very rare circumstance). Baba went to the interview, they denied him straight up. They cited the proclamation as the main reason for denial and another section again. And even if he applied again,he will be asked what has changed. SimpleGuy001: |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by earnvest: 10:39am On Jan 07 |
SimpleGuy001:I asked because some people had their interviews before the 1st of January. Those are the people I'm checking on. |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by SimpleGuy001: 10:45am On Jan 07 |
Efetobore1980:Stop giving people false hope please. How many people are going to and fro? These are people already with visas.December 2025 is different from Jan 2026 when proclamation took place. People attending are those who have scheduled since last year. Anyone reading this, except you have money to gamble then you can schedule your interview and attend. But be aware of one thing….. You are putting yourself under a tighter situation. Because they will ask you what has changed. When clearly you are denied because of a proclamation which under normal circumstances you will likely get approved. Now you have a job of telling them what has changed when you don’t even know if anything was ever wrong in the first place cause a proclamation was used a basis to deny you. My advise: If you really want to attend your interview and willing to gamble with your profile and money. Then wait or Schedule your interview to say late June to early July (most schools resume August). We are hoping it will be lifted by then based on the recent works with Nigerian govt… if lifted then attend… if not lifted and still want to gamble then go and see what happens. If rejected, oh well… Sha know first attempt is a 50/50 chance. Other trials, the chance reduce. But with the proclamation, the odd is already against you. Chill and wait till June. 6 month is a lot of Time for things to change. Al of us want to go to USA. Someone like me, if ain’t USA, I am not going anywhere cause I want an MBA in the USA. We are all in this together. Wait till June |
