Bassey is suspended for the Quarter finals...
IMO, this could have been avoided if he didn't play the Uganda game and pick up an unnecessary booking in the final minutes yesterday..

Now, it's either Ogbu or Awazeim to partner Ajayi...

I hope Chelle and the NFF technical crew are aware of this suspension
Osimhen caused it all. He destabilized the team and made the team lose focus.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Sarsaparilla524(m): 10:11am On Jan 06
Osimhen went overboard yesterday - yes.
VO9 was wrong with his attitude - yes.
He lacks emotional intelligence - Partly.

There is another plot to his character- He plays to win even if it is 10 goals in a match. Against Tunisia, we saw how the team took off their feet from the pedals. We almost lost the game. A team that is 3 or 4 goals up can end up losing within 10-15 minutes of the game.

Remember the Dammam Miracle of '89
Remember the Atlanta Olympics 96 game against Brazil

My question is, does the team have a Psychologist?
I have seen comments of some Nigerian fans saying, Eric Chelle should bench Osimhen in the next match?, Is this a Joke?

Let me refresh your memory, in 2004, Coach Christian Chukwu sent Babayaro, Agali and Yakubu out of the team due to indiscipline. It caused us to lose the AFCON title in that tournament. Discipline should be cautionary when knowing fully well that there are goals that must be reached.
Eric Chelle will discipline Osimhen in his own way and making him sit out in the next game will not be part of it.

If you have met people in life, then you will meet people with Osimhen traits, because he is outspoken does not mean he is a bad person. Roy Keane was a no-nonsense captain of Man UTD, and whatever happened in a game was over there on the pitch.
Osimhen needs to be managed properly.

As for Lookman, he can be selfish sometimes. He overdresses the ball too much, would not want to pass when he is supposed to, not shoot when he is supposed to or hit the ball once it is laid on his path.

Osayi is no Roberto Carlos
Onyeamachi is no Roberto Carlos
They should do better with the ball in the Final third.

I hate it when players go for self-aggrandisement.
Individual awards should be secondary.
The collective goal must be primary.
Any self-ambition must be sacrificed for the collective goal of winning the AFCON.

Osimhen must apologise to his teammates and coaches.
They must all bury the hatchet as they seek to get our 4th AFCON title.

Eric Chelle must not disrupt the balance of the team by putting Osimhen on the bench in the next game trying to prove a point that he is the boss. The late Stephen Keshi's rift with Emmanuel Adebayor as Togo coach comes to mind.

NAIJA 4 THE WIN

TheSuperNerd:
It's crazy how since Kanu Nwankwo did it in 2000, no Nigerian player has done it. I even doubt past Naija stars has done it before him pre-2000.

On his Afcon debut, Kanu dropped 3 assists🅰️🅰️🅰️ vs Tunisia in the 4-2 win in Lagos.

A true goal creator masterclass clinic that has never been repeated by any other Nigerian player.

Iwobi came close. Mikel came close. Chukwueze came close. Akor came close. Lookman came very very close. All had 2 assists in one Afcon game.

But none has bagged 3 in one game like Kanu.

Or am I wrong?

Kanu may not have scored a goal at the Afcon but the magic he wielded in direct goal involvements via assists between 2000 and 2010 was damn special.
and the 3 assists from Kanu were world class

It had nothing to do with the Uganda game
Bassey got a yellow card in the 90th minute!!
Your team is leading 4:0
It's the 90th minute?
What are you getting a card for?
It's that lapse of concentration that sometimes plagues our team

Eric Chelle should have it in mind that Iwobi might be double marked in the quarter finals. It's clear now that he's the main guy who orchestrates our best attacking chances from deep.

Not true.

AFCON Yellow Card Rules
Under CAF regulations for AFCON, yellow cards accumulate during the group stage and can lead to a one-match suspension if a player reaches two bookings before the knockouts begin. However, all single yellow cards are wiped clean at the start of the knockout stage (Round of 16 onward), giving players a fresh slate—except in cases where a player already served a suspension for reaching two yellows.Since Bassey only had one yellow before the Mozambique match (and picked up his second in the Round of 16 itself), he never reached the accumulation threshold during the group stage. Therefore, no suspension was triggered.
Implications
Bassey's second yellow (against Mozambique) has no carry-over effect.
He is fully available for Nigeria's quarter-final (against the winner of Algeria vs DR Congo).
The late booking was unnecessary with the game already won 4-0, but it carries no disciplinary consequence beyond that match.

No reports indicate any suspension for Bassey heading into the quarter-finals, and he remains a key part of Nigeria's defense.

Hello everyone, congratulations to us on the win and the performance.
Guys, Bassey will not miss the next match. The yellow cards received in the group stage are canceled in the knockout rounds, except in the case of a red card or two yellow cards in the group stage, which would result in suspension for the Round of 16. In Bassey’s case, he is available for the quarterfinals and will not be suspended

Mr Yes-Men Crooner is back at it.

Well, even Lookman disagrees with you and says: "....Vic is our number one guy, everybody knows this, he’s a top striker. So, all of that doesn't matter"

So I guess that makes Lookman himself a yes-man. Go and take out his tongue.
He is just being Diplomatic and respectful. At this ANC and last ANC, Lookman has categorically been Nigeria Best Player

Sir, first happy New Year to you and the family Sir

Sir I understand more sir, thing is some of us here are waiting for something to drag him for, not just because he was angry, cos of those sitters he had been missing, even someone here doesn't hide sef,

As you can see, none had gone to analyze the match in the First 5hours after the game, something we rarely did here

Furthermore these thread had a way of influenceing things in the National team, these draggings, will not bode well,

And I love Chelle for his reaction, he was even shouting and calling him, before removing him,

Allsame Victor needs help , and we can't contribute or give him that help with the way we always do

My 2cents on the matter

I have to comment about this Osimhen attitude issue. I am one never to hold back pointing out when a player is wrong but in this case, I understand Osimhen.

When a player is in space and the team fails to pass to him repeatedly, it turns to sabotage.

The bond in the National team is like brotherhood, so it is clear why Osimhen feels bitter.

I hope Eric Chelle handles this with wisdom. I remember pointing this kind of thing out in the Nigerian match against Iceland, where Ahmed Musa scored two goals. In his second goal, Iheanacho was in space but Musa chose to skin the keeper and score a solo goal. It was an eye candy goal but tactically an eye sore.

It is not just a Lookman thing. I saw one of Bright and I just shook my head.

Thanks you sir, and that happen more that 3times yesterday, majority of the only times they pass to him is when he was in an offside position already, and I think that's why he is finding it hard to beat the office traps

The system is king.

This is what Eric Chelle needs to hammer to the players. It is a team sport. If the tactics favour Osimhen, not getting the ball to him is not only sabotaging Osimhen but sabotaging the growth of the team.
.
Tactical growth is long term and it takes lots of practicing the right things until it becomes second nature.

Thinking Osimhen has two goals and I must score two, betrayal the team and the manager.

We need to continue getting things right.
