What was the experience like? Mine was drowning in a river I was struggling to grab leafs or branches to float my luck was that an empty jerrycan wasn't far from me. I manage to anchor myself with the jerrycan and move to a lower side of river. My luck that day You don't know the type of strength you have Until you are faced between life and death |

I actually entered that Oké-afa canal in the 2002 Lagos armoury explosion, but was dragged out. If not for my sister that held me and my younger brother’s hand firmly, probably we would have died. We were going home from church back then, when the bomb blast started. We ran with the crowd until we found ourselves inside that canal. I saw people died in that canal, especially children. I didn’t even understood how we made it out alive, because the crowd was rushing in thinking the canal is a path forward, while those inside struggle to get out. The stampede made the ground so slippery, that as you try to get out, you’ll slip back in. This was the only time in my life I was standing side by side with corpses, as a young boy. Thank God I made it out alive. |

Woke up one night suddenly, I slept naked and noticed someone was trying to open my door, iron door o, the hinges had been destroyed and they had put a big stick through the little gap and we're trying to force it open. The surge of adrenaline I can never forget. I just ran and tried to push my weight on the door , didn't know where the superman strength came from, I was screaming at the top of my voice . I think my screams scared them because I didn't and can't remember what I was saying ,I just got out of bed and a little bit disoriented. They finally gave up and left after threatening to shoot me through the door but I doubt they had guns but I saw cutlasses with three of them . The adrenaline was so much I didn't even know when they had left I was still screaming and putting my weight on the Door till I noticed they were not pushing back anymore. Screamed so hard I lost my voice for a week, Crazy part is when day break , my neighbor and the those in the next compound all said they didn't hear any noise all night. I found it strange. |

2RightHands1Coc:speaking of andrenaline I won't forget in our former house. When a visitor a man wearing cap came knocking at our door. I was washing plates so I heard the knock and open the door. The man asked if my mother was home. I said yes thinking it was a visitor that came to see her. I told my mum someone came to see her She stood up and went to see him while I go back to wash plate Next thing I hear my mum shouting at the man, insulting him. I ran out immediately to see what was happening. To my greatest shock I saw this man point a pistol at my mother While my mother stood there and was shouting at him and insulting him. I thought this was the end I was begging her mummy please sorry Omo the man was just confused still pointing the gun at her. She sef stand there like rock dey insult the man. First time my heart beat so fast I could hear it Next thing the man pull down the pistol and put it inside black bag and ran off. My mama still dey ginger told me to look out the window and see if he came in car that I should copy his plate number. Me wey still dey shake with fear I just dey stumble. I literally saw the man enter Vboot and drive off. This was early 2000's Omo later that day We did family meeting and my dad kept asking her what made her stand when someone pointed a gun at her face. She said till this day she don't know what entered her and gave her that kind morale. Imagine me seeing someone pointing pistol at my mother while she is just firing the man with insults, daring him to shoot. Omo Later I realize it's probably adrenaline that made her act in such way. Very crazy stuff ![]() |

Mine was in at Balogun hospital Ilorin I had an accident and was rushed to the theatre, I passed out and it was all emptiness. After like what felt like forever I slowly drifted back into consciousness, it was crazy. I was mumbling incoherently , I couldn't recollect things . By the time I came to, I saw my mom crying and praying profusely by my bed side. Till date, I still pray never to have such encounter again and God has been faithful. |

Mine happened when I was ten years old, I fell sick and got admitted in hospital... My condition at the time was stable, but kept deteriorating over time, I had to be transferred to another hospital outside of my province... I stayed there for about two weeks before my first surgery and my parents would sometimes have to go back home as they had other priorities back home, my brother was the one who'd normally come and see me during afternoon visiting hours since he was schooling in the same province I was transferred to and his school wasn't that far from the hospital. A day for my surgery came and things seemed promising after the procedure, even though I was still on oxygen, things seemed to be headed to the right direction... My parents were by my side for a couple of days and the doctor finally decided to get me off the oxygen since my condition had seemed to have improved... My parents then had to go back home in Limpopo and I remember within a couple of hours after their departure, I started experiencing this heavy feeling within my chest like it was compressed altogether, I complained to one nurse about how I was finding it difficult to breathe properly, she alerted the doctor and they put me back on oxygen while they monitored me through the night. My doctor came back early in the morning to check up on me before he left and it wasn't until I had my breakfast that my condition turned for the worst, I started hyperventilating to a point that even the oxygen wasn't helping anymore, when I attempted to speak, my voice couldn't come out, I felt myself struggling to exhale by the minute... I was immediately attended to by this other doctor that I didn't recognise, he quickly prepared me and rushed me to the ICU together with the ward's senior nurse, I actually thought I was dying by that moment... After getting to the ICU, they tried getting hold of my parents, but could not reach them. I was then placed on this other oxygen which had this weird smoky smell, I managed to whisper to the senior nurse that I was thirsty and needed some water to drink, she promised to get me the water, but I quickly passed out, when I woke up, I found myself on a life support system and I was being attended to by this other female doctor... My doctor then came and explained everything to me, apparently I had developed an infection after my first surgery, he also told me how they've been trying to get hold of my parents without any success since as a minor, they needed their consent to conduct another surgery on me as my condition was now critical and required them to conduct an urgent surgery ASAP... So in my parents absence, they took it upon themselves to go ahead with the procedure... Because it was either they wait and I don't make it or they conduct the surgery without my parents' permission and save my life. I honestly didn't care, I was just relieved that I could breathe again even though I relied on a ventilator... I think my brother had an exam that day, so he also couldn't come and see me... Few hours later, two new doctors that I've never seen before came to fetch me from the ICU to the operating theater, apparently they were assigned to perform the surgery on me by another doctor, I was attended to by a variety of doctors that day with their different specialities. The following day my brother went to the children's ward like he'd normally do during afternoon visiting hours, but upon getting there, I was nowhere to be found, he was then directed to the ICU and when he got there, I was asleep and the sight of me being surrounded by all those different hospital equipments terrified him... From what he told me, he only stayed for a few minutes and left... He got hold of our parents and instructed them to come to the hospital ASAP for I was dying and from that day on, he stopped coming to visit me... My family arrived in the middle of the night and at first they weren't allowed in since it was way past visiting hours, but they explained to the nurses and doctor how they're from another province and drove to the hospital as soon as they heard the news of my condition. When they came in, I was awake, but still on a life support system and my wrists were restrained to the bed because the doctors feared that I might start overreacting as a child and harm myself in the process... My cousin only looked at me once and left, he waited outside... I could see in my parents and aunt's eyes that they were also terrified by my condition but trying to be strong... From that moment on, I had to be strong for myself and fight because I could see the hopelessness in everyone's eyes. I stayed in the ICU for a couple of weeks until my condition became stable and I was moved back to the children's ward... I was taken off the ventilator machine and placed back on the medical oxygen, but I still couldn't speak or eat solid food, I'd use a note pad and a pencil to communicate with everyone... My brother then started visiting me again upon hearing that I was out of the ICU. My mother would later open up to me about how at one point, she had started preparing herself for the worst, but here am I today healthy and happy...😃😃😃... I'll forever be grateful of those doctors who teamed up together to save my life...☺️☺️☺️ That's my survival story. |

Samantha125:Any human wey enter ICU come out alive is a real life testimony. I helped a family of strangers push their dad from ward to ICU one midnight at a federal hospital. Immediately we stepped into the ICU I swear to my creator we got froze for 3seconds, I and the guy whose dad we were carrying. Infact the man fell off from our hands because we froze. Do you know why we froze for 3seconds?? The doctors immediately had to rush to tap us to regain consciousness. Oh my goodness!! Patients in ICU are miracles. I saw people living in hell in ICU. People praying for death at the ICU ,while Mr death is somewhere staring at them. Ever since that night, I've been a humbled man. |

I have had two life threatening experiences, but I will share just one... Overdosed on malaria drugs when I went to visit my late sis years ago. I was standing in the kitchen, and suddenly my feet started wavering, and I lost balance. Instead of calling for help, I dragged myself to the bedroom and lay down. My body was shaking with so much intensity that could be heard miles away. Fortuitously, at that moment, my sis arrived, and when she felt my body, she raised alarm because my hands and feet were already as cold as ice. She started pouring water on me, and immediately called her neighbour who was a nurse. I was injected and the drugs was neutralised. God's providence acting through my sis saved me! |

23jerryking:Similar experience with appendicectomy procedure but never had any "scary" moment at any point. I slowly drifted off due to the anesthesia and consciously saw myself leave my body and that was it. I couldn't remember anything until I got back but was mumbling rubbish, slept off again then started to gradually proceed back to full consciousness recognizing people around me and having normal conversation. |
