If you look at what happened to Iraq and Afghanistan,there was a trillion dollars poured into the rebuilding plus winning the hearts and minds of the belligerents.The US taxpayers paid for the war effort.
This time whatever will be spent rebuilding or maintaining security will come from their own oil.

While INDEPENDENCE for a nation is a good thing in principle, it's reasonable to ask about the QUALITY OF LIFE results for the population.

It would be better for the USA or a credible group of Anglo-Saxons to colonize Nigeria and impose FREE MARKET rules that would generate high living standards for the Nigerian people over the long term, and of course the COLONISTS would become EXTREMELY wealthy too. That's exactly what has happened in South Africa. White South Africans have the HIGHEST LIVING STANDARDS of any White people in the world, while Black South Africans have the 2nd highest living standards among national groups of Negroes in the world. There's strong likelihood that even during Apartheid, Black South Africans had higher living standards than Nigerians.

That's the reason Black South Africans don't have a high rate of migration to Western Europe or North America. They have their own White Slaves providing the ideological and practical scaffolding upon which the entire population can work hard and build a highly developed nation.

Yes, independence and self determination is good as a distinct state of existence. When ANY consideration of economic well being is introduced to a discussion of nationhood, then there's clearly some trade offs and balancing to be made to achieve superlative development. That's 8 million people that have CHOSEN higher living standards over social justice and national self determination.

In the last 10yrs 10m Venezuelans have fled the country due to suffering. Now they wont need to anymore once America starts helping them they will stay in their country, and put less migration pressure on the US border
