EquityM:
Bro, what did you think of "fixed income fund"? My money keeps going high and dropping at the same time. Bond isn't equity, but it's somehow strange to me.
That's because bond is traded like an asset, not fixed income deposit.

Bonds and Treasury bills are sometimes bought in what we call secondary market.

This is why you always see me write about FMDQ here, because FMDQ is that market place.

Sellers in the secondary market are the ones looking to liquidate their investments after buying it originally from the government and buyers are people like you or your fund manager looking to buy it up from that person and then, the price at which you are willing to pay that person is what created the secondary market.

That's where your fixed income fund managers goes to trade.

So as a bond holder, you can earn in two ways, through coupon or in the secondary market.

Think of it like, you built a house for rent and you begin to collect rent (coupon), then one day, you suddenly woke up and decided to sell the whole property (secondary market), if you sell your property above market value, sweet gains but if you sell below market value, you lost money.

Now interest rate is mostly the reason why people dump bond and some other lock money into it for attractive rate.

The rule of the game is: If Interest rates goes UP, bond prices goes DOWN.

If Interest rates goes DOWN, bond prices will shoot UP.

@EquityM, recall sometime ago I posted about different mutual funds and their underlying assets. I also said investors should also consider a fixed income fund from SFS https://sfsfund.com/register?referral=4GJ0I3Q21G if they want to enjoy the benefits of bonds because a Fixed income fund is an indirect way to invest in Bonds and you may not need to wait till the maturity date of bonds, enjoy quarterly returns, and also have the opportunity to top up, unlike investing in bonds directly. Then with the new tax system, it's also a way to avoid tax because the underlying asset ie FGN Bond is tax exempted.
Just as @Beeron said, Bond is not a short-term instrument this is a major difference between it and Tbills or commercial paper which are short term.
Re: Mutual Funds by Nobody: 10:31am On Jan 07
Cool, I'll check it out. I hope they won't ask for my Nigerian number during registration. I'm currently working abroad.

No penalty on any withdrawal at anytime. You can run any day, any hour, anytime. I don't know about other fund managers. Moreover, CardinalStone does not apply penalties on the equity fund, as it is a high-risk investment.
Kindly help with a link to create an account.

Also advise on how best to fund.

Funding is through Paystack. You can download the app as well, "CSAlpha," on the Play Store or Apple Store.

That will be done shortly. The target is that on or before Friday this week, normalcy will be restored in all channels and modules of all mutual funds.

Hmmm,

I've entered FBNquest trap o. Is this the way they behave?

I placed a redemption on the 24th and after a while noticed the money didn't drop. Wrote them a mail and they promised to resolve. They came back and said my bank account is not accepting credit(which is true upon contacting SCB) they ask me to fill a bank update form and share. Did that immediately last week and till now nothing. Mailed them everyday until they responded today.

They said due to ongoing dividends distribution they cant update my bank account. I should retry before the end of the first quarter. This money has been removed my mmf o. So i have money in limbo that is not warning anything. This is my first time withdrawing with them.

Na so the thing they be?

I think you should reply their mail and ask for clarification on that part. Before end of first quarter can be tomorrow or next week. It’s a vague and ridiculous response.

I have replied. Second time they are sending same message asking me to wait until after dividend distribution to update a bank account. It sounds so ridiculous
Re: Mutual Funds by Nobody: 4:01pm On Jan 07
FBNquest, I dashed them 12,000 naira already. I won't top up or withdraw. You better find a better fund manager.

Please is it okay to invest directly with these companies or through cowrywise app?
I prefer cowrywise. Allows me to move my funds between different funds easily. Just completed transfer of my stanbic funds to Trustbanc(via cowrywise platform) the 3.22% differential for now overrides any long-standing loyalty to stanbic.

If things changes and another MF on the platform offers a higher rate next month, na to move. Every penny counts

CardinalStone just credited my account with the fixed income dividend, which is not my daily interest accrued. I only started in late December 2025. This thing makes sense, oohhhh.

Does the MMF also pay dividends apart from the accrued interest?
Re: Mutual Funds by Nobody: 8:18pm On Jan 07
Not at all. You only get your interest accrued in MMF. No extra dividend or coupon.
