A Nigerian woman based in the United States has taken to social media to lament after authorities allegedly ordered her to remove barrels she had arranged in front of her home.
According to her, the barrels were purchased for resale and neatly arranged in front of her house. However, the authorities reportedly instructed her to remove them.

Speaking about the ordeal, she said:
"Can you imagine, the house we bought, the house we are paying mortgage on every month? They served me a letter saying I need to remove all of them, all because of certain code. And if I don't, they will take me to court—not even a fine, o, they said court!"

The woman expressed frustration with the U.S., saying that even though homeowners pay a mortgage, the bank technically owns the property. She explained that authorities are able to impose rules on the house despite it being in her name.

She revealed that she has started moving the barrels gradually to her shop, but space is running out. Her home lacks a garage or basement, making it impossible to comply with the authorities’ suggestion to store the barrels there.

Advising others planning to buy homes in the U.S., she emphasized the importance of having a garage or basement. She shared that when she and her family arrived in the U.S. 20 years ago, they were desperate for a home and overlooked these features.

Speaking in Yoruba, she stressed the importance of careful planning when purchasing a house and urged buyers to save properly to secure a home that meets all their storage needs.

If na Nigeria now, she go say "do you know who I am" 😂 You no go comply keh - you're already in violation of whatever code, if you let it go to court, you'll pay dearly.

That's why I weep for the rubbeshness that is our jujuciary system - the court was the power of sanity in civilization, but our own court no dey even bark again.

They have strict housing codes. You can't even modify or reconstruct your own house in a manner that will violate your housing code.

You see them. If it's Nigeria now, you will blatantly break their law and people will say she is right or if that's the problem of Nigeria. Now, she will obey without complaining.

Make Una learn to obey laws too for Nigeria

Fire hazard. Remove the barrel, or you get fined, and it will still be seized.

I have always been an advocate on investment back home in Nigeria among our diaspora communities here..

Last week in the community group someone suggested of investing back home and an idea and opinion..

Then someon said that he will never invest in Nigeria that nwike can demolish his structure one day or government will do or just one policies etc.

I was said about his comment because in this group we have men of calibre...

But seeing what is happening to this woman and a host of others... Its sending a negative narrative to Nigerians outside with large pool of hard currencies and sadly this currency might not find their way into our economy back home

Its terrible how we end up this way

The reason for asking you to remove the drums is because it's a residential area and not industrial.
Does that look good to you?
Did you consider your neighbours before storing the drums in front of your house?
You think it's Oshodi oke or Ajegunle?
Re: Nigerian-american Woman Laments Over Order To Remove Barrels From Her Home by Mrchippychappy(m): 10:43pm On Jan 10

You are right, that can be habitat for rats, rodents, snakes and things like that, that will be a menace for the neighborhood.

That's not the authorities... That the HOA.
If she has a valid case, she can take them to court first. Those people are a pain in the ass and most Americans now avoid owning house in HOA communities.

In some places in America, if you don't cut your grass in front of your house or if they are not green enough, you will get a fine.

Gbagbe!

Nigerians know how to behave in foreign countries. In Nigeria she would have called their bluff or bribed her way out.

"If she has a valid case..."

Lets read to understand please.
Life is too short to be unnecessarily aggressive over irrelevancies.

im telling you. Over 20yrs she still has bush mentality.

How on earth does parking all those in front of her house look? That’s definitely a sane environment

Trust me , I lived in Yankee for many Decades.

This lady probably is doing MORE than JUST storing the Barrels. With heavy trucks becoming nuisance picking up and dropping off shipments. Loading and unloading palm oil etc and redistributing them to other containers…. I have seen it all!

Instead of renting shops, they will use their homes as storage. Her Neighbors who pay the SAME Home Association fees probably just got tired of the Heavy Traffic!
