They disgraced that boy. He felt humiliated that's why he wanted to fight at the end of the match.

Definitely not as dominant though equally as free scoring.

The matches we dominated that year were against SA, Morocco and Tunisia (kinda)

Blueelf:
I think the closest most-dominant tem we may have ever had at the AFOC in this century must be the 2000 team

And even that team was not as dominant

This narrative is incomplete, if you don't mention that Nigeria scored a clear goal that was fraudulently adjudged to be offside while the penalty Cameroon had was controversial.
Day light robbery it was. Henry Nwosu had scored through a header but was wrongfully adjudged offside and then Eguavoen's charge on Rodger Miller was given as a penalty.

It was a bitter pill for us to swallow then. On came the 2000 AFCON final played in Lagos and again we were robbed. angry

Chief Kog45, I actually prefer TheGoodJoe kind of post match take of wanting the players to improve more, more than all these over praising, some sounding overconfident without realizing it.
I don't know how hard he was on Lookman though.

Me I'm reserving my praises of the team till we win this trophy,I no dey for all these talk talk, our team is the best,we are this ,we are that talk.
We need this trophy to validate our status and all these talk.

For now,the players has done very well, even when their play is near perfect,is not bad wanting them to be perfect as we enter the crucial stages of the tournament.

Hey a broken clock is right twice a day.

NFF was due one right coaching decision.

Blueelf:
I am not satisfied with the answer I have gotten so far from this thread

Why did Mali not hold on to chelle? He's the only thing NFF has gotten correct in decades.

Who advised NFF to go for chelle? Because those guys are too dumb to recognise coaching talent when it's staring them in their face. Someone with actual working brains must have lent NFF some of his functioning brain to make that decision

There are some things I just need to understand

NGL, with Ndidi out, I'm kinda scared. But I believe our front trio should give them something to think about.
If they press too much, na to send the ball to Lookman. I would really love to see Lookman work that LW. He should keep Hakimi busy

Oya house best super eagles player so far in AFCON... let's use this Sunday to pick
My top 5 picks are in this particular order.

1. Lookman
2. Iwobi
3. Osimhen
4. Bassey
5. Akor

But Osimhen may likely end up as the player of the tournament if we win the trophy.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m): 1:35pm On Jan 11
TheGoodJoe never rides on agenda when talking about team or player improvements. So when he points out what Lookman should work on, he does not do that as a way of putting him down. He does it as a way of wanting everyone to maintain high standards and keep raising the roof.

So my dear Kog45, TheGoodJoe is not pressing anyone's neck. He just wants the continued improvement of the Super Eagles.

But with that said, I must point out one little thing. The snap shot shared of Lookman having a chance to pass to Osimhen is not exactly fully expatiated. I watched the passage of play 3x. Lookman did try to locate Osimhen with a pass in that same sequence, but was blocked eventually. That snap shot does not show that coz it happens seconds later.

So please, you, TheGoodJoe and Forgiveness should kindly rest this matter. Gracias.

Not since Mikel in 2013 have I seen such a domineering performance from a Nigerian midfielder.

I pray Iwobi can help us deliver this AFCON.

If he does he's officially out of Okocha's shadow.

But the best player at this afcon so far is Alexander iwobi

With one gesture, Amoura stirred the anger and vituperation of the entire continent when he mocked Kuka the Lumumba guy.

With one gesture of solidarity with Lumumba, Akor has earned so much goodwill for Nigeria and the Super Eagles.

Fly Eagles, fly!

Iwobi for me. Yes Osimhen and Lookman might look like the logical picks but I think Alex's impact has allowed all our attacking players to flourish giving them the foundation to terrorize defenses.

Look at all the games Iwobi has featured in. His defense splitting passes intelligent passing has given the team a balance I haven't seen in many years.

Better take Elyte89 to one of Uganda, Sudan, Mali, Botswana, Equatorial Guinea or even Benin to replace Rohr. The coaching reins will be vacant in at least one of these nations within the next few months.

Chelle is here to stay. Truidstarr and Bankygee don sign the extension before the extension.
Unless a team in Europe or Saudi comes calling grin

This AFCON tournament has been electrifying from the very beginning—not just because Nigeria is still in the competition, but because of the many beautiful moments of solid football on display. Overall, African football has clearly improved, and AFCON is now starting to look even more interesting than the European Championship.
I don’t know if you guys feel the same way, but that’s honestly how it feels to me.

The Algerian player allegedly mocking Lumumba is a congolese/algerian issue.Let them battle it out themselves.

Nothing concern naija for the matter.

Abi no be thesame congo dey mock naija up and down in November 2025 when we lost a world cup play-off match to them?

Nigerians should stop giving a furk when it ain't their turn to give a furk

Let me say this. The biggest mistake Eric Chelle has made as our coach was not trusting Bruno from the beginning. This is a guy that was one of the best player during the AFCON qualifiers. He should have been a starter from the moment Chelle took the job.
