My top 5 picks are in this particular order.

1. Lookman
2. Iwobi
3. Osimhen
4. Bassey
5. Akor

But Osimhen may likely end up as the player of the tournament if we win the trophy.
aside goals Iwobi should be my player of the tournament
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by TheSuperNerd(m):
@emboldened... Good. You can reserve yours. But dont make it look like others dont know what they are saying when they come out to boldly declare the current tactical quality of our team. Dont pour cold water on the tactical insights, or projections or show of faith others showed prior to where we are now at this Afcon.

Truidstarr and BankyGee are 2 monikers out of a few that believed in Eric Chelle from day 1 of his appointment. They always stood their ground and said Chelle was the right choice even when time after time, analysts like me and theGoodJoe kept knocking him and his tactical rigidity at the time for the 442 most especially.
TheGoodJoe and I would support Chelle ofcos every match day but we would always and always point out the glaring tactical deficiencies we noticed. We were not fully convinced and rightly so.

I personally have always been wary of Chelle initially due to his persistence with the 442 (especially as he was not exactly executing the right 442 idea which is the 442 diamond cum the 4312 we see today but we will get to that) even when I felt he showed some potential. He was trying to work out a diamond but it most times turned out flat. But I always did say he was a manager who learnt from mistakes. E.g. Benching Ekong for Frederick and Rotating certain personnel to either upgrade or check a position.

But you see, it is rather at this Afcon immediately after I saw Chelle deploy the 4-3-1-2 diamond/christmas shaped setup vs Tunisia in a distinct manner that finally made all my months of dissecting, criticising certain of his tactics, knocking few decisions and more, finally make sense, that I came to a major stop at the conclusion that he is indeed like Truidstarr and Bankygee have been saying. He is the One. He is a coach that improves and he will only get better.

This is Chelle's 3rd year as an international manager heading to year 4 and he is still 48.

I am convinced now but it does not mean I still wont point to one or two improvements we can still make as a team.

In conclusion, while you wait for a title before you acknowledge greatness, some actually have the careful or analytical foresight to see it before a title is bagged. Or some just show faith based off info they somehow saw differently than anyone else.
This Super Eagles team is on course and is forging a strong identity again and we dont need a title first to acknowledge this fact. The Title will only "FURTHER" validate the quality that we already see manifesting strongly before our eyes.

Napoleon55:
Chief Kog45, I actually prefer TheGoodJoe kind of post match take of wanting the players to improve more, more than all these over praising, some sounding overconfident without realizing it.
I don't know how hard he was on Lookman though.

Me I'm reserving my praises of the team till we win this trophy,I no dey for all these talk talk, our team is the best,we are this ,we are that talk.
We need this trophy to validate our status and all these talk.

For now,the players has done very well, even when their play is near perfect,is not bad wanting them to be perfect as we enter the crucial stages of the tournament.

Calvin Bassey plays central defense like it’s a free role. classy Center Back entering his prime. He’s going to get even better. Anticipation, pace, power, aerial dominance, passing. He’s got the assets . Frightening potential
the guy is too good and needs a big move again

Ajax goofed big time letting him go

Calm down. The players are correcting themselves too.

Bruno didnt find Osimhen vs Mozambique despite having him as the freest option but he eventually redeemed himself for that yesterday with the sumptuous cross assist for Osimhen's header.

Osimhen struggled a bit in the first half vs Algeria but eventually found his feet and even laid a pass on a plate for Akor.

The players are correcting themselves game after game. So make we rest am.

forgiveness:
Rest which matter? Most of those players are guilty of what he pointed out but how come he singled out one person? Habamana!!!

Make people no come here dey deceive themselves.

This is why we're livid about the genuflection of Motsepe to please UEFA
lexyman:
This AFCON tournament has been electrifying from the very beginning—not just because Nigeria is still in the competition, but because of the many beautiful moments of solid football on display. Overall, African football has clearly improved, and AFCON is now starting to look even more interesting than the European Championship.
I don’t know if you guys feel the same way, but that’s honestly how it feels to me.

We have a substitution problem. I always wonder why they take too long to notice that osayi can't last the whole of 90 minutes.
At the same time Simon has no business playing some of the matches he has featured in at this tournament. Lastly, why we don't make use of all 5 of our subs knowing that we have an established way of playing.
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by AndSunGorilla: 2:42pm On Jan 11
Rumors have started going around that other countries are approaching Chelle, Angola, Guinea, Tunisia. That Guinea own na bottomless pit for sure, but Angola and Tunisia can pay the money and have a couple of average players.

Morocco playing poorly against our baby group Team Tanzania and struggling to a 1-1 draw with 10man Mali, them go chop am for our hand…Morocco will not beat this Algerian team i initially took as our first real test…
see ehhn Nigeria should not b far from 1st in Africa…we don’t have business dropping to 3rd in Africa…a team that has played 16 semifinal out of 19 afcons….imagine the number of final we have played…we suppose dey count like 9 to 10 Afcon trophy.
from age grade soccer male and female to senior team to super falcons Nigeria is really a giant…NFF is is really killing us…especially with some kind mumu appointments of coaches over the years
-Berti Vogt🤦🏽‍♀️
-Lar Lagaback
-Finidi George
even this Bruno Labalaba that turned us down sef would have been another white carpenter…..you see attacking minded coaches like the Cape Verdean coach, Eric Chelle, Late Keshi even the DRC coach are the kinda fearless coaches we need

He was tremendous. It was clear that the Algerians intended to play through his wing but he stood firm like a rock of Gibraltar. His forward runs were a delight to see. Above all he was calm and composed.

I've been one if not his fiercest critic but I give him his flowers and I eat humble pie.
Respect

I think Chelle should win best coach but I dunno if there's an award for that.....iwobi or lookman should win best player of the tournament... brahim is a fraud with zero assists and If Nigeria humiliates Morocco gk like they did to Tunisia and Algeria then nwabali should win best goalkeeper cause he' would be the only one to keep cleansheets in the KO

One major thing working in our favor is that opponents are yet to solve the new Eagles approach. We’re creating chances through direct attacks and build-up play rather than our usual wing-based patterns. Hopefully, our next opponent won’t crack the puzzle.
There is an antidote to how we play. I don't want to expose it but watch one match ..... lipsrsealed I no go talk. grin

In every team, some will take the spotlight, others will be working silently in the background. Frank and Ajayi are two guys who are just doing their beat quietly.

There was one block Ajayi made yesterday, if that ball had gone past him, we would have been in trouble
