They have started as usual with their negative propaganda. It is a predictable template; defame a geoup/party/region and then use soldiers and the Police to destroy the source of their income. You tell yourself so much lies in a lifetime that at a point you start believing your own lies. They have always wanted to trend a warped narrative that South Eastern businesses thrive based on fake products. They used to say it was juju. That lie didn't fly long enough, so the new one... When you can't compete, you would want to do damage to the intergrity of the guy who out-competed you.. So they went to Onitsha and closed the whole medicine market for most of last year! Unannounced! Both the innocent and the guilty were all lumped into one place and summarily punished without remorse. Families were left stranded. Bread winners were left with no work for months. Instead of identifying those who did wrong, a blanket attack on the whole stalls and warehouses in the market that runs into thousands shops with teilkion naira worth of goods, was orchestrated with the help of the security agencies. Shops were looted, unconstitutional fines imposed and lives wrecked. It took the coming of VDM to open their nyaansh. In the end, we didn't see them destroy the trillions naira worth of medicines they seized. The whole seized products went into thin air.. Having been very successful with that test run, they have started towards Alaba market. They have always wanted to unravel that very Alaba market, but since medical or food products were not sold there, finding "terrifying" excuses to invade have been very tortuous. They waited a long time without finding aa good excuse to attack.. So they threw a hail Mary with one propaganda video of fake TVs being repackaged. Within hours, the Lagos government that has been practically aloof to her duties in many sectors, started yapping rudderlesly. Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) who gave the certifications for all imports started barking. They even got LG to start talking, yet no investigations have been made! You need no one to tell you what this is all about. It is a prelude to invade Alaba international market with touts and to vandalise the place the same way they did at Onitsha Drugs/Medicines market. In few days, you will hear that a contingent of the military, the police, the civil defence and Co, have been drawn to the market to seal it off, so that the government will investigate reported cases of fake products in the market. That will most probably last for months as the Lagos media is unleashed to saturate the whole place with negative articles about bad business activities in the market.... All these while corruption and fakery thrive in other areas, including the areas they dominate. Same way they were carting away trucks of medicines at Onitsha while their agbo sellers were busy wrecking kidneys.. We have been here before. We know what is going on. It is called "economic terrorism". We are witnessing a situation where the states coercive instruments are being used to fight sectional battles. This country is a mess in terms of her abilities to maintain standards in every sector. So there is nothing bad in fighting to upgrade and uphold greater standards across board! What is wrong though is when a vindictive/sectional party in power, out of ethnic animosity, unleashes a well choreographed sectional "fight" against corruption/fake products/criminal behaviour in the country, with the ultimate goal of destabilising other ethnic/regional/religious or interest groups. That is a tribal attack being decorated as a national fight right there.. That is not how you build a country.., That is how you destroy a country.. |

For close to forty years now fake and sub-standard electronic products have been sold at Alaba Market. About time they move the illicit trade to where it belongs! |

Any market where fake products is discovered the whole market should be closed down. Some people are acquiring dirty wealth at the detriment of people well-being. |

Your write-up is so pedestrian and reeks of tantrums and ethnic slurs. On the one hand, you alleged ethnic intentions behind the efforts to rid the society of the scourge of fake and adulterated products which have become a canker worm. In the same breath, you admitted that there are indeed guilty elements involved in the crime you claim to be an excuse to deny others from doing their legitimate business. You conveniently forgot that your reputation precedes you. It is no longer a secret that wherever you have a concentration of your people doing 'business' like Alaba International, Ladipo, Tradefare, etc, markets, sharp practices, outright swindling of innocent customers, selling of fake and adulterated products are always the order of the day. Thousands of innocent people have fallen prey to your criminal activities A time it was that you even openly praise yourselves as 'experts' I would remind you that the society was aware of your sustained existential clandestine war against late Dora Akuyili until she was mowed down for carrying out her legitimate duty of ridding the society of dangerous fake drugs that were killing millions of innocent Nigerians silently. Was she being ethnically bigotry in her actions ? No. Why the frontal allegation of same now that other agencies are carrying out their legitimate duties ? In this country of over 250 ethnic groups, why is it only the Ibo tribe that allege tribalism each time you fall foul of the law ? You want law enforcement agencies or authorities to look the other way while you perpetrate heinous crimes at the expense of the financial, economic and health benefits of the society ? If you must know, it is general knowledge that Ibo 'businessmen' are generally not known for taking bank loans to start their 'nusinesses'. The capital outlay usually comes from criminal activities like armed robbery. You also have this intolerant criminal act of running any non-Ibo person that sells same product as yours in your neighbourhood by burbling the fellow's shop. Can you deny the fact that Ibos hundreds of Ibo 'businessmen' recently reported from Ghana and the Republic of Bénin for these same criminal activities in the name of business ? What sort of stuff of being are you made of that you are never ashamed of crying harvoc where there's none ? You like to always make a mountain out of every mole hill yet you constitute the most crooked group in the society. |

Alaba market shouldn’t just be shut down, it should be demolished completely and never allowed to be rebuilt. That market has done nothing but serious harm to the health and wellbeing of Nigerians. About time the right thing is done. |

owobokiri:Every single venture your people engage in shrouded with selling fake, substandard, adulterated and counterfeit products. Should the rest of Nigerians continue to be duped and subjected to your merchants of death and avarice all because they must make a living out of illegality? We also know that 70-80% of these criminals masquerading as traders are also into other various crimes which they use their sordid business to launder the proceeds from their criminal ventures. And the fact that they see nothing whatsoever wrong in duping the public and also subjecting us to the very dangers of fake and adulterated drugs shows how criminality has eroded any single fibre of morality they might had. So you want the government and the people not to complain when you peddle fake and substandard products to us? We should all accept it as our fate and luck and also as part of helping your criminals launder their illicit monies and feed their families fat? Well, I don't blame you. This is what a people with decades of impunity and a wicked heartless attitude to other will assume since no other government went all out to shut your racketeering in fake, substandard and outrightly dangerous adulterated products. |

owobokiri:What's your suggestion, that fake product should be allowed to take the place of the real product. I was expecting you to address the video where fake LG label was attached to a product not produce by LG company. What can be more terrorizing than deceiving gullible Nigerians to buy fake LG. Same people who are into fake electronics are the one producing fake wine all littered in Nigeria market, fake drug in Onitsha and been distributed across Nigeria, it was the fight against this menace that consequently led to the death of Akuyili husband. How will a society allowed such menace to continue? Why is it convenient for some people to destroy the entire society with their fake product? What is the different between people who kill with gun and the one who kill with fake products. |

Ttalk:If you have any evidence against anyone for producing "fake LG" or fake anything, then use that pieces of evidence and arrest the person involved. That's what I am saying. This is exactly the way it is done elsewhere in the world. Identify the oerson involved, arrest the perwon, prosecute, get him/her sentenced and have the peron jailed. Don't start a propaganda war against a people/ethnic group/religion or section of the country based on an UNVERIFIED footage dumped on the internet by an unknown quantity. This should have been very easy and fair a position to take, but its Tinubus Nigeria where folks like you are ready to burn down the whole Lagos just to teach some people "a lesson".. |

| Re: As They Prepare To Close Alaba International Market by Ttalk: 7:27am On Jan 12 |
owobokiri:We won't burn what it took us and our forefathers years to build. Rather we will flush miscreants, economic terrorist who produce fake product out of our region. The sale of fake products didn't start today, there are loads of reports with the government already and it is high time the right thing is done. Alaba market has outlived it's existence in that corridor, there's is urgent need to sanitize that area and allow the residents heave a sight of relieve. LASG will demolish that place and build a brand new market for genuine traders, and put up a mechanism to checkmate production of fake products. You have nothing to worry about if you are not into production and distribution of fake items. |

All I see on this thread are uneducated and self depressed individuals who come online to pour out their frustrations against a tribe who are doing well. Lol, the whole comment here is funny. They said they wanted standard buildings, but the traders there build it, now it's fake product.... Hahaha So who took the photo and took to social media? Don't tell me in this century you don't know where to buy original stuff? Do you know the original ones starts with a price of 800k upwards? Can you buy when the minimum wage is 70k? Don't just come online to display hatred but rather think deeply and not make a mockery of yourself and educational background. Why coming online to display hatred when you were not forced to buy? Nigerians are mentally losing it. Now I see why Peter Obi always puts education first because everyone needs it. |

Ttalk:What and what did your grandfather build in Lagos? Lol Which part of Lagos was built by your grandfather's? Abi you're misplacing Lagos with Okitpupa? Your grandfathers? owobokiri:If it pains you that my forefather owned Lagos and will still own it till eternity then I cant help you. We will continue to take decision that will shape the direction of Lagos and its people while your likes continue to cry on SM. I know it hurts you so much, you wish you are from Lagos and hope Lagos is in your region but there is nothing you can do right now because the reality say otherwise. Lagos government will always make policy to protect the interest of its people, that's not tribalism, witch-hunt or sabotage, that is patriotism |

Ttalk:Bia, this boy, listen: As long as Nigeria subsists, Lagos will continue to be a property of all Nigerians in general and that of the Eguns and Aworis in particular. The Eguns and Aworis that i mentioned have no problems with the rest of Nigerians living in Lagos. Rather it is this clan of inebriated ronutards that have failed abysmally in developing any sort of civilization in such squalid eldorados like Oshogbo, Abeokuta, Okitipupa and Akure, that are all over the place wailing about "their Lagos"! It is NOT your Lagos and we will drill this point into your stubborn skulls atbevery opportunity! We won't listen to your type. You're totally inconsequential here. Totally full of it. Your fathers fought and died for One Nigeria. You can't win it both ways. As igbos, We are just living the spirits of one Nigeria for which your uncles fought for in OUR Lagoshi.. Comprehendéé!? |

MadPolitician:Your bitter pain is noted despite being incoherent. However, Lagos state government that is populated by Lagos people will continue to make policy for the progress of Lagosian. If it hurts you so much that am from Lagos and you are not, don't pour your frustration on me, take it to the Lord in prayer, maybe in your second coming you ll be born by Awori father and Ijebu mother. Presently no one is pursuing you from Lagos what Lagos won't tolerate is the proliferation of fake drugs, fake wine and fake electronics |
| Re: As They Prepare To Close Alaba International Market by lawani(m): 8:39am On Jan 12 |
owobokiri:But there is no evidence that anyone built Lagos but Yoruba. We know Jakande paid 50 million dollars for a metro that was cancelled by Buhari in 1984. Lagos is part of the SW and was part of the western region. I believe up to 80 percent of Lagos population is Yoruba but no census yet. It will be the same for investments. The last census that showed ethnicity was in the 70s and it showed 15 percent Igbos. That was when Igbos had no city up to Abeokuta and Ibadan was bigger than Lagos. Nowadays that there are many cities in Igbo land and Ibadan is much lower in population than Lagos, how many Igbos will be in Lagos?. There are no Igbo elected person in Lagos whether through state elections or federal. Cities that were built by Nigeria are Eastern cities. Not Yoruba cities. Yoruba had eighty percent of Nigerian cities before independence. In Nigeria, it was Ibadan before Lagos. If Enugu were in the North, there would be a settler indigene crisis there just like in Jos. The first Mayor was Hausa. Nigeria is cheating Lagos not developing Lagos and Lagos needs to start making things difficult for importers if the FG does not start paying them part of port revenue like they pay to oil states. Because non Yorubas have a few buildings in Lagos state does not mean they built Lagos. FG is owing Lagos money and not the other way round. They are owing Lagos lots of money. Lagos should be collecting hundreds of billions of naira from port revenue annually that they are not being given. Some countries are largely financed by port revenue just like some countries are largely financed from oil. Therefore stop saying Nigeria built Lagos because Nigeria is rather destroying or setting back Lagos All this braggado online have no effect in real life. Things are however getting out of control as it is reported Igbos killed two Yorubas in Lagos during the last Presidential elections. On Alaba, thirty percent of traders in Alaba are Yoruba. I know people there and a closure of the place will not affect only Igbos. Nobody has however said the place will be closed down |
