Baba Ladoja was a former governor and senator, before becoming olubadan. You can't take such personality as a stooge. You reap what you sow.

.. but at the same time, Baba should've just accepted the handshake. Agbalagba kin se langbalangba.

Alaafin supposed to have stand before stretching his hand for a shake with the Olubadan. The Olubadan is right to snub the Alaafin of Oyo so as to teach him common etiquette.

In Yorubaland, age commands respect before the position one holds. The former Alaafin of Oyo was very old, and there was no Yoruba monarch as old as him at the time, was the real reason for the respect he received. The new monarch expected the same level of respect and was therefore disappointed.

Re: Olubadan Snubs Alaafin At An Oyo State Function. by Raph82(m): 5:52pm On Jan 12
The Alafin of oyo is somewhat too full of himself, greeting someone who's old enough to be your uncle or father while sitting and stretching forth your hand to shake him. That's too condescending. Olubadan is a core Yoruba man that upholds culture. Alaafin can not be older than Olubadan's first child. I guess he deserves something better than just a handshake from him.

You are totally ignorant of Yoruba culture when it comes to a king with real crown. Age is no longer relevant when you get installed and there are several traditional Yoruba sayings, incantations and songs to that effect.

There is no single son of Okanbi called ''Alaafin''.
Stop typing rubbish if you dont know the history of Oduduwa and Okanbi.

Okanbi also gave birth to Oranmiyan (one of his children) who later founded Benin Kingdom, and from there he went to establish Oyo kindgom and became ''Alaafin'' of Oyo.
The same Oranmiyan abandoned his throne in Oyo and returned to rule Ile-Ife as the 6th Ooni of Ife. He died and was buried in Ile-Ife.
This singular act of Oranmiyan shows that the Ooni of Ife and Oba of Benin are both superior to the Alaafin of Oyo.
Oranmiyan also gave birth to sons who later became Ooni of Ife.

Se Yoruba ni e sha? You ask where is Ooni there.

The first Ooni (King) of Ife, considered the ancestral home of the Yoruba people, was Oduduwa, a divine figure in Yoruba mythology who is revered as the progenitor of the Yoruba dynasties and established Ile-Ife as the sacred center. He brought civilization and became the first crowned ruler, with his descendants forming the basis of Yorubaland's royal lineages.

The seven dynasties you listed were established by his grandsons. Ooni could not have been one of them because that is Oduduwa's seat/title.

All subsequent Ooni's are successors of Oduduwa.

Yorubas have too many kings/chiefs. And many of them are on selfish interests. No development or empowerment through them, just empty encomiums and exaggerations from their subjects (they still see as slaves)..

These two chiefs (alaffin and olubadan) are playing childish games while real, serious issues are neglected...

Maybe Olubadan was expecting another gesture.
Alaafin has no respect! There is seniority by age and seniority by position… the Olubadan is at least 20 years older than Alaafin… he sat there and stretched out his hand! He got what he deserved!

That is no longer important because Oranmiyan himself abandoned the Oyo throne (inferior) and came back to Ife to occupy the Ife throne (superior) as the 6th Ooni of Ife; and he was buried in Ile-Ife.
The staff and shrine of Oranmiyan (who founded both Benin and Oyo) can only be found in Ile-Ife! What does that tell you?
It is only those who are ignorant that would be comparing the throne of Ooni with Alaafin. Even the Oba of Benin is superior and senior to Alaafin in heirachy

History has it that Okanbi probably died early. Obalufon 1, a key figure in the early Ife empire succeeded Oduduwa. He wasn't his biological son.

Eventually, Oduduwa's biological grandson Oranmiyan returned to Ife and became Ooni.
Re: Olubadan Snubs Alaafin At An Oyo State Function. by Jerry2rule: 6:28pm On Jan 12
I like your narration from the beginning, youre right. The Ooni of Ife it different. When Okanbi died non of his sons were not around to installed as king and they have been govern their kingdom. And Okanbi has a son that one slave born for him. He's Ooni Isha son of the slave. Oyo is the first son of Okanbi. Shikena

I am Igbo so I won't claim to be an expert in Yoruba history. But from the little history I know should the alaffin of oyo not be the highest stool in Yoruba land? I know of the great oyo empire that stretched far and wide. I have never heard of ife empire or Ibadan empire. I believe that Ibadan was under the control of the alaffin so olubadan naturally should be a subject of the alaffin. If this was the 16th century the olubadan would be beheaded for this disrespect. The alaffin was a god king like Xerxes of persia
