Sometime people just ask some foolish and useless questions but if the man stop providing or taking responsibility of paying bills in the house he becomes a useless and irresponsible man.

It is not about present age or anything.
It is about the individuals involved. My dad washes his clothes himself and Mine uses a drycleaner for outing clothes and handles the rest himself. Unbelievably, I have never washed his clothes. I cannot date or marry a man who finds it convenient to leave his dirty sweaty clothes and boxers piled up for another person to wash. It tells a lot about your hygiene level.
But she is already married to him.

These are things to check out for in dating. But to Naija women, once a man doesn't cheat or beat them __he is a "good man".
At the emboldened, some women even celebrate washing their husband's boxers. If a man cannot wash ordinary boxers, then his personal hygiene must be very poor. Unfortunately, most women don't care about that.

So, because a man pays the bills, he shouldn't handle his laundry?

Many girls were educated by their parents, but were never mandated to do their parent's laundry. So, why should a wife do so much for an ordinary husband who is not her relative?😏😏😏

Do you have any evidence to prove the bolded? did you saw him sleeping with "girls" do you have a photo or video evidence? Beside this is about a wife washing her husband's clothes, please do not derail.

If you are not aware of their current marital state with the same eagerness you knew she washes boxers, then I shouldn't be conversing with you. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Is it more convenient for the husband to sit down and start washing the clothes manually and cannot multitask?

I have come to think of it as Nigerians do not value efficiency / time. Average Nigerian will opt for the difficult or time consuming way to execute a task because look at hard working me. People will queue for 45 minutes to buy 10 litres 739 fuel at Mrs, sometimes waiting for the station to open, when same fuel is being sold at other stations for 800. 45 minutes or more to save less than 1k.

As to the poundo being different, I cannot remember any particular difference in taste, but maybe that's just me. Would prefer to buy than have the missus stress herself out pounding yam.
Is this where you got the MRS reference?: https://x.com/docneto/status/2011341272355578241?s=20

From the CS, it is said that MRS' meter isn't tampered with and the fuel quality is high. So, those could be the reasons.

Nonetheless, I agree with the time value reference.

nope - it is something i see myself. there is an MRS in festac. one morning i drove past a A LOOONG QUEUE and they had not even opened. people were patiently waiting and there was no fuel scarcity. that is what i have learnt very clearly from the end of fuel scarcity. nigerians are content to wait for hours for a very small and insignificant financial saving. before MRS, it was an NNPC station. same thing. you would see people on long queues when there were multiple other stations open.

it speaks to middle class nigerians complete lack of understanding that time is far more valuable than money. how many danfo drivers will go and lose 25 minutes at a station for n1000?

i have tried to explain to my kids that this is not smart at all. i hope the lesson enters

In this day and age, people are too broke to buy washing machines? The cheapest family sized washing machine is around 180K. Anybody who can’t afford it has no business with matrimony.
Don't all the married men and women in your family own washing machines?

For reasons I am not really sure washing machines have gone mainstream like that. When I was younger we had one and we were mocked for being aje butter for not washing clothes by hand.

You know the average Nigerian still celebrates stressful manual labour and difficulty over ease. Like people who will insist on pounding yam when you can simply buy poundo yam.

It is what it is.
I agreed with your claim concerning washing machine but comparing poundo yam with pounded yam is a no for me even the one that was pound in mortar is better than the one engines pounds, some going against washing machine bla bla some it's because they can't afford it

The man can as well fix his meal when come back from work or in the morning before going to work because she was train that way or educated that way in her father's house. If that is the case she should remain in her father's house marriage is not for her .

You people should keep promoting Western culture when it start to backfire you start asking where did we it wrong.

can you people get a washing machine? undecided

A washing machine of 7kg cost around 200k and second hand around 100k or even less!

Why do you people love embracing poverty to the extent of fighting over who is to wash clothes!
If it's food I would understand. But washing of clothes!?
Not everyone can afford that plus it's not all clothes that is ideal for a w.machine.

P. S: i have a washing machine
Re: Should A Wife Wash Her Husband’s Clothes In This Present Age? by eniolorunfe: 10:12pm On Jan 14
Whatever rocks their boat! Whoever isn’t okay with the arrangement can make do with alternatives eg. use of a washerman or woman, washing machines, dry cleaners etc.

There are more important things for couples to focus on - like making money to make life easier for them and their children.

Financial abuse! I have confirmed firsthand that if you want to enjoy your marriage to an extent, you should have money as a woman. I have even written on it in my _______. You need money to buy certain household appliances and gadgets that will make your life easier. I do it a lot because I no get strength to dey do chochocho with am. Even something as basic as outdoor bin, I bought it to reduce the interval I run after waste disposers. I buy the ones I can buy and get going. It is me that knows how much time and energy it would save me _to avoid issues like this. If I keep talking with him, he would leave the one I need and be buying me something else. Then act surprised when I am not as excited as he expected.

Within themselves, I am sure many Nigerian couples have spent the cost of a Tokunbo washing machine on junks, wigs and beer. But somehow they still see washing machine as a luxury that average homes cannot have in 2026. It is priorities. Some would buy beer, but their bedsheets and towels are wornout. Some would buy wigs, but they don't have pressing iron. I don't live my life that way. I focus on functionality.

Relationship is the time to establish the kind of wife you will be. Maybe it is immaturity, but women don't do that, only to start it inside marriage and they get accused of changing or being rebellious feminist.
Poco, I am looking for a big land to buy in one igbo village. Do nigerians sell land in acres?

Hello famlanders! So a friend told me her husband is complaining that she doesn’t wash his clothes, so my question is that should a man be considerate enough to give his clothes to dry cleaners instead or it’s a must for the woman to do that?

Here’s my own story: I watched my mom washed my dad’s clothes til my old man passed, I tried to do the same with my husband’s clothes but he complained that I put too much pressure on his clothes lol 😂 that he would do his laundry by himself… imho if there are kids involved already, the husband should be kind enough to do his own laundry then the wife can wash her own clothes as well as the kids’ thank you.
@OP:

😆 @ in this present age.

Anybody can do anything at any 'age'.

IMHO, there is nothing wrong in a wife washing her husband clothes or not dependent on 'age'. However, there are many nuances; does she have the time? Does she work? Does she like to wash clothes? Why can't the husband wash it himself? Is it because he feels it is the duty of his wife or because he doesn't have the time or she does the laundry for others and thinks she should add his etc. etc.

Like others have said in previous posts, they should be hustling on how to get a washing machine. That way, anyone can do the laundry & if they have a marriage where the husband feels it is the duty of the wife to do so and she doesn't resist, she can handle.

The problem might be finding a large portion that belongs to one individual or a few individuals to avoid complexity.
