Hello

What do you guys thinks about these two cars as a first time buyer and driver.

The first is Peugeot 307 and the second is Toyota Corolla Obama.

Which would you advise I go for as Nigerian used and why?

My mind is tilted more to the Toyota Obama but I hear most of them usually develop electrical issue due to them being converted from right to left hand driving when they come in Nigeria.
I have used the two cars, the first car cheaper but the corolla is better in everything unless you're poor in maintaining car just like me. I used the car forgot to de put water for the radiator and not even service till the engine lock. Still park it outside waiting for miracle maybe the engine go resurrect

If the Toyota is converted then go for the Peugeot

Toyota Corolla Obama ,euro model. look for direct left hand drive. Run from 307.
do you know if there is a way to tell a direct left hand drive? Remember I intend to buy it as Nigerian used not Belgium. I hear most sellers will lie that it is direct left hand.
Re: Which of these cars would you advise I buy? by cupidoliver(m): 10:11am On Jan 15
They aren't even the same price bro. The price gap is wide. The peugeot is way cheaper than corolla obama.

Get the Obama. It is the hatchback version of the original Uber Corolla. You should only get the Peugeot if you are buying foreign used, you can drive manual transmission and you have a specialist beside you.

The TJ5 1.6 liter engine in the Peugeot is more fuel efficient than the 1.8 liter in the Corolla tho.

Solid hatchbacks both of them.
great info. Thanks.

I am using the Obama for the past 3 years. I can tell you that I made the right decision going for this car. Very rugged, low fuel consumption, easy to maintain. Even though it was converted, no issue.

You will see the panel beating at the fire wall, were the steering and master brake servo is located. Check the pedal leg area too. central lock, wiring harness.
its well discussed here on nairaland

The Toyota is better. If you have concerns about electrical issues, then go for one not imported from UK. The European left hand drive ones plenty for market.

Whenever you're ready to get the car let me know. I have a friend in Abuja that sells cars, solid cars at good prices too. He just posted one today even- toks grade, neat and solid 2013 Camry SE with papers and everything for less than 12m. I was surprised because I've seen before where it was quoted at higher price.

He has other cars though that are quite lower than 7m, 8m, 9m, and so on depending on the brand, make, model, year and so on.

Buy a Corolla 2005 LE and have peace of mind. She's an understanding girlfriend. My first car was the sedan Corolla 2005 LE. You can choose to design it with alloy wheels and new seat covers and an Android system. Ensure you change the oil timely, and water the radiator, never ignore any leg noise and you'll live longer than Metu. The car made me only buy Corolla products..even their SUV..the Cross. I like the Mercedes, BMW, Peugeot and other sweet brands but I cannot afford its problems.

If you however feel you need to look like Wike, buy a Nissan Murano.
you said it all

In my opinion they are both good cars for a first timer……I drive a Peugeot 206 the smaller Version of the 307 and I can assure you it’s a very good car and very strong and reliable and also very fuel efficient…..but if you don’t mind driving a manual car, I will advise you buy the manual transmission if you are getting the 307 to give you peace of mind because the automatic transmission is not so reliable…..the parts are readily available and very affordable. Overall 307 is a very good car and it’s suitable for Nigerian roads and can travel long distances and the AC is one of the best you can get but I will advise you go for the Tokunbo and not Nigerian use but if you want to settle for the Nigerian use, you can buy from the north, it’s one of their best car and they have a good maintenance culture but go with your mechanic to ascertain the conditions of the engine before purchase.

grin they really have no idea, don’t blame them…..I drive the 206, and the car as never disappointed me, very strong and reliable with a very good Ac….the parts are affordable and fuel efficiency is superb.

I once drove the Peugeot 406 for good 3 months, that was when i get to realise why the average northern man uses the Peugeot.
Strong, rugged and reliable.

you very right….it’s one of their favourite brand of vehicles including Honda used up north and official vehicle of federal government. Obasanjo gave senior civil servants both military and paramilitary during his tenure, though it was on mortgage and was deducted from their salary….my mom too was a beneficiary…..very good and reliable.

Nigerians know little about other cars as they do Toyota Honda and Benz. Peugeot 307 is very Good car , strong consume less of your money on repairs and fuel . You will enjoy it. Parts are everywhere and easy to fix
Re: Which of these cars would you advise I buy? by danzaki63: 3:11pm On Jan 15
They both dont have the same market value even when they are manufactured the same year. they have the same capacity.but the Auto of the 307 is very troublesome. so go for the Obama, it is by far more expensive.
