You should have helped the government to stop frivolous spending and block the leakages through which our national treasury is being looted especially in the petroleum industry. How can you be increasing the taxes when the NNPC cannot account for billions of dollars spent for the turnaround maintenance of the refineries that have stopped working for decades? . Yet they are not working. Where is the money and where are the people who received it? Yet the media is silent over it.
That's not his call. His forte is TAXATION, he is a Tax chief, so he has a mandate.
He is not the finance minister.
So leave that for the finance minister.

Linus Mba Oyedele

The main point he made there is that it's very RISKY and in this came the risk is higher because of zero trust between the APC government and the Nigerian people due to their insatiable corruption and nepotism

Thai Oyedele fella should ask the APC government how they intend to invest this tax money on the people's welfare. The Same money they will use for elections' bribery of the judiciary, legislature, traditional rulers, civil societies and all the security apparatuses

I don’t get your analysis…… by what government say 7.5 percent…. How much would they remove in 1 million
If Mr A sends you 1m, you will get your 1m in full, however, Mr A will pay #50 bank charges, #50 stamp duty and 7.5% on bank charges, which is #3.75, so the total cost of sending 1m to you is about #103.75, which the sender is to pay for and not you the receiver.
Before now, the sender pays 53.75 while you the receiver pays 50, but now, the receiver won't be charged again

This is not true.
No one is charging you for such.
Vat is for a value rendered not for your fund.
The fund you are sending is yours, you are only paying vat for the money you are paying the agent (bank) to help you deliver the fund to a beneficiary

This article I stumbled on today opened my eyes to the fact that it is those who don't understand the new tax act that are hyperventilating about consequences on their finances, not knowing that this new tax act is a deviation from the multiple headaches from old tax rules; this one's all about easing the load for low and middle earners while making the rich pay a fairer share.

So, abeg, don't sleep on it; understanding this could save you money or land you in FIRS drama. Let's break it down:

First, the big win for low-income hustlers; if your annual salary is ₦800,000 or less (that's about ₦66,667 monthly), you're tax-free! Zero kobo deducted for PIT (Personal Income Tax). This ties into the national minimum wage vibe, folks earning up to ₦70,000 monthly (or ₦840,000 yearly) basically walk away unscathed.

It's like the government saying, "E don do, no touch their small change." Previously, even low earners faced a 7% bite on the first ₦300,000. Now? Sweet relief for over millions of workers, letting you keep 100%.

But if you're just above, you can claim every deduction like pension, NHIS, or rent relief to stay in the clear.

Now, imagine tax as that overzealous usher at church; always trying to squeeze out more offerings from church members. Under the old system, he grabbed from everyone. Now, he’s like, "If your offering tray dey empty, pass am go!" For middle earners (₦1M to ₦10M yearly), effective rates drop slightly. Taiwo Oyedele, the tax reform boss, says you'll pay less overall, thanks to progressive brackets. No more flat-ish hits; it's tiered like a wedding cake but sweeter at the bottom.

Speaking of brackets, here's the new lineup straight from the NTA:

₦0 - ₦800,000: 0% (Tax-free zone)

₦800,001 - ₦3,000,000: 15%

₦3,000,001 - ₦12,000,000: 18%

₦12,000,001 - ₦25,000,000: 21%

₦25,000,001 - ₦50,000,000: 23%

Above ₦50,000,000: 25%
