“Our SuperEagles coach [Eric Chelle] is so demanding. I’ve never seen a coach as demanding… Not just on the field but off it, even down to how we eat. He’s a nice guy & connects with his players, but when it is time for the job, he doesn’t joke..” - Wilfred Ndidi (Captain)

Back to this, the captain armband does not suit Osimhen because it obviously tames him. We don't need a tamed lion upfront.

Secondly, Victor tends to get weakened whenever things aren't going our way especially late in the match, but Chinedu is a complete opposite of this. Dude maintains same steam from the first blast of the whistle to the final one, that is the type of player you want captaining your team because when others see their captain soldiering on tirelessly, they get motivated to stretch themselves even more.

Another person who should be standing as an assistant is Nwabali. Dude has aura and can intimidate referees with his confidence and presence, but I will be skeptical because nna-gi's head dey touch. He could become power drunk and misuse it. grin
Are you talking about Calvin Bassey(Chinedu)

We were outplayed how? Lucky to survive how? if that game continued for the next 30 mins the Moroccans were not scoring, folks that were already tiring out. Their best was in the first half and after then nothing despite all the help from the ref and crowd. The only folks the Moroccans outplayed was chuks and Bruno! They did the job for them
Valid
See how Bassey been dey use them play

When I say Chinedu Ughelumba you should know I was talking about Bassey. There is no other Chinedu in that team. Chinedu Ughelumba is his government name given to him from birth. Bassey is a recently adopted name, in honor of his maternal home. No man uses his mother's surname as his own surname unless he was born out of wedlock and the father isn't known. So, yes I was talking about Ughelumba Calvin Chinedu "Bassey", the son of Ikenna Ughelumba and Eberechi Ughelumba.

Eric Chelle says he had a deal with Calvin Bassey coming into this Afcon to show improvement in every single game.
He also spoke about Calvin's growth into a leader in the team and his projected plan to mould Bassey into a top 3 CB in the world.

It appears that the latest trend is host and win.

If that's the way, then it's going to be a long journey for Nigeria.

We've been unfortunate to meet the hosts twice. Look at Senegal, all their opponents apart from Egypt were weak teams. But they are in the final.

This is the kind of coach we have been praying for. The one that will push these players beyond their limits

The person who made that analogy between current Nigeria and the first Golden Generation of the 90s is spot on.

Golden Generation that won in 1994 (The path):

1990 - Final (Lost to Host)

1992 - Semis (Bronze)

1994 - Final (Champions)

Current Generation (Their path):

2023 - Final (Lost to Host)

2025 - Semis (Bronze?)

2027 - Final? (CHAMPIONS?)

TIME WILL INDEED TELL BUT THE ANALOGY IS BEAUTIFUL. It is a similar generational story being forged. As long as Chelle stays, he will do more than a westerhoff.

Truth is that I stated my opinion right immediately upon him taking that Pk. I thought I was off the road until I went on X and saw people mirror the same thing.

Yes you can be disappointed. No aggro with that but in all honesty, that's what I think.

The pain now is no less than the miss of qualifying for the WC. I didn't even say pim about the guys who missed the Pks during the playoffs. But this one was different.

Many people on that X also attributed it to him being Igbo and hence sabotaging the team for Biafra. Do you agree that he indeed sabotaged the team?

What exactly was his reason for sabotaging the team, since you guys said it was a delibrate act?

Okay, you made some very valid points

But you'll agree that the penalty loss is partly his fault

Is he saying that our past penalty failures didn't teach him to prep these guys for that outcome?

See I'm not trying as much as possible t9 blame him because I think he should be given a long term contract with as much support as possible but Chelle too mess up small. Although I've no doubt that he'll improve as a coach in the coming future
You are beginning to sound like our blue font guy, TGJ. Pray tell, how is the penalty loss his fault? .

Right from the WCQ Play-offs, the team practised PKs in EVERY training session knowing they were knock-out games and there had to be a winner.

Even at this AFCON, during the Semi-final pre match presser, Chelle was specifically asked by a Nigerian journo if they were training for penalties and he confirmed they were. I also watched various Interviews of our players in which they said they were practising PKs in training just before the round of 16.

Go back and watch the WCQ playoff PSO, Bruno played our best PK. Fast, medium elevation and to the left of the goalkeeper. Obviously, Morocco prepared for the eventuality of PSO, studied tapes of our PK takers (including the WCQ playoff PSO) and their goalie had memorized how our players played PK. That's the reason Bounou stepped to his left rather than dive even before Bruno hit his PK. Unfortunately Bruno hit it tamely down the middle this time, and Bounou recovered and was able to stretch out a hand to stop it.

As per Chukwueze, do you honestly think that was the kinda PKs he was playing in training that Chelle brought him in specifically to take a PK? You sef reason am. Moreover, no matter how well a team prepares for penalty and how proficient they are, a winner must emerge and its just unfortunate we were on the losing side. Me, I can never blame Chelle for the outcome of the game. Our PK takers let him and Nigerians down.

Despite the painful loss, I am proud of the valiant effort of the team. I saw determination, fearlessness, fighting spirit and a "we die here attitude" all of which were missing in the DR Congo game. The team did not fold this time and just go through the motions, and that's in my opinion is our biggest win from the Morocco game.

Eric Chelle has given the Super Eagles a playing identity. He has met the semifinal target the NFF set for him and did so playing exciting and beautiful attacking football. He is still unbeaten in regulation + extra time with thie Super Eagles. He may not have gotten to the final like JP did in Ivory Coast but I regard him as our best coach in the last five years. The Super Eagles need some coaching stability, and I hope he stays and the NFF extends his contract till after the 2028 AFCON.

The 2027 AFCON will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania but shey una don hear say Morocco is considering hosting the 2028 AFCON as warm-up and preparation for the 2030 World cup that they're co-hosting with Spain and Portugal? This people wan use hosting win two AFCONS sharperly sha. Hopefully, Senegal spoils their planned party in the final just like the Super Falcons did.

Delaw cool down, folks will always defend their favs here and no problem on that. I think it’s because of your numerous repetitive comments on the chuks matter that is making tempers rise more now, remember yesterday I told you let’s move on and just focus on the more serious players.

And as for those still defending chuks no problem the only thing I agree on is that chuks should not be cyber bullied but please stop trying to rationalise his penalty kick, behaviour or whatever, that is also making more temper rise and people still Dey para, let it go. One thing am happy with is that it has justified those who never took chuks seriously and have lamented about his inconsistency over time. Trying to paint another narrative will not convince anyone, dude blew it all and we should just forget about him and talk more about serious players like Bassey and co. It’s like coming here to say now that okoye is better than Nwabali that will be irritating to read so make Una rest o!
I don't support Chuks being bullied. He is a Nigerian player. He deserves our respect. If he missed penalty, he's also done good before. But my opinion is my opinion. I defend criminals. Chuks has not killed anyone. So I can say he acted maliciously and still not support him being bullied.

What I would not countenance is being disrespected because I state my opinion. Nope.

When Nwabali was misbehaving, I stated my opinion, this same BascoVanVeli insulted me. Between myself and him, who acts like a child throwing insults because you find an opinion disagreeable. If we all hurl insults at others just for stating their opinions, I don't think we'd be able to have fruitful conversations.
